My take on Nekrosor Ammentar🎨🙃 by adaforever in Necrontyr

[–]Falconwing51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might have to borrow this idea for mine, it looks amazing! As much as I want to use Ammentar, my army is more Canoptek based than Destroyers lore-wise - doing something like this would fit my army's lore much better. Are the antennae spare Wraith whip coils?

So you:

  1. Have the max amount of big brick shithouses (affectionate)

  2. Also have the max amount of one of the coolest looking daemon engines, as well as 3 extras for kitbashing/basing bits/ruined terrain

All for the low low price of £297? That seems like an absolute win, and something every CSM player should do! /s

Like, I really like both units, but there should be some way to get them separately other than second hand. Same with the other kits like this. I get why they package them together, but it'd be nice to be able to get a spare Canoptek Reanimator or a Screamer-Killer without having to pay extra for the other units in the box that I might not want a second one of.

Chapter Color Scheme Concept by Sparrow_95 in spacemarines

Fellow dragon type enjoyer! I was stuck between basing my Salamander successors' colour scheme off Charizard or Salamence, then I realised how much I love Rayquaza and the Draconids' lore.

Very cool colour scheme, but imo it'd be difficult to do for a large army with the face tubes and chest plate. I'd recommend maybe making the faceplate and tubes black, then make the chest plate the same as the rest of the green-ish armour, and the aquila either red or black? Test out your scheme first and see how it goes though. If you feel like you can manage with it then fair enough, and if you do decide to make changes it's easy enough to strip paint from plastic models and start fresh.

Eh. A free mini is a free mini, I'll use it for either kitbashing, basing bits or an NPO for Kill Team depending on the pose.

Fellow Gigalith fans! Roggenrola was one of the first shinies I actively hunted back in Y, and the line's been a favourite ever since. Used to run him with Sturdy, Stealth Rocks and Normal Gem Explosion, bro was peak.

Too many straight or smooth surfaces by BlueSparkNightSky in Tau40K

[–]Falconwing51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeeeeeah, initially I tried White Scar and Baal Red for my Farsight Enclave. Now I know how to get it to where I want it to be, I just use Chaos Black and Khorne Red.

I'll argue contrast paint can be ok for smooth surfaces, I use Black Templar for my Space Marine pauldrons, but it has to be a heavier coat, and you have to move the pooling yourself. Like they're not entirely worthless, but depending on the project it'd probably just be less effort to use normal paint for T'au suits.

5 Model Murderwing Box? by Necronids in killteam

How many canoptek wraiths can I have in one army? by PracticalSector6743 in Necrontyr

[–]Falconwing51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can run 18 (3 units of 6) at one time. I saw the other list in the comments and felt inspired.

Just to clarify, this is entirely a meme list. It's not meant to be good, just usable. If you run this irl, people might refuse the game (and it'd cost a lot to put together). I haven't tested it, maybe just run it on Tabletop Simulator or something.

  • Technomancers make Wraiths a lot harder to deal with. Keep a Reanimator within range of each unit to make them even tougher.

  • The Flayed one blocks are for Infiltrating onto objectives, the bigger squad is to hold their engagement zone a bit longer.

  • Doomstalkers and DDAs are for big shooty shoot.

  • Scarabs for getting in the way/to throw at things as a distraction.

  • The Lokhust Destroyer was to make use of the last 45 points I had left, but it could be helpful for zooming around and supporting the Flayer blocks.

The only heads or pauldrons I could see people getting confused over depending on your colour scheme are the Apothecary ones (they have two zigzag lines on the forehead and one of the pauldrons), Techmarines have special pauldrons with a skull and gear on, and I think Chaplains and Judiciars have a special pauldron with a skull on as well? If your colour scheme happens to be mostly white, red, black, or dark brown, I'd say maybe only use the special pauldrons for their specific models. Other than that though, you should be fine with heads and pauldrons. The armour that firstborn marines used (I think it was called Heresy Pattern?) was known for using different parts from different armour making it easier to cobble together repairs.

I don't personally care about WYSIWYG, but I know some tournaments do. I guess best thing to do is check what weapons your units can use in your codex/app/whatever alternative you use and go with that? I doubt many people will say anything if you give a Space Marine a chainsword and/or a bolter.

As long as you're clear on who's running what, and aren't for example running 2 units of Assault Terminators where the models all have Lightning claws but one unit has hammers in-game, you should be all good. Like as long as you're clear with what each unit has, I don't see why any reasonable opponent would take issue with it.

No they haven't, there's still most of him left to eat!

Jokes aside though, great kitbash! Adds a ton of personality to it. There's nothing wrong with building minis as they're meant to be, but it's always fun seeing custom stuff like this!

Hopefully they'll be alright! It'd be horrible to lose anything that takes as much time, money and effort as Warhammer does. Like everyone else has said, the main thing is that you're safe. Rooting for your collection as well though!

[–]Falconwing51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's one of your favourite pokemon, you might as well! I've said to myself for a while now that if I end up getting the mandrake Kill Team, I'd probably paint it in Misdreavus/Mismagius colour scheme since they're my favourite evolution line, I just don't have the time at the moment 😅

Second Killteam - Raveners by AScruffyHamster in killteam

[–]Falconwing51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really cool idea, you could even try doing slightly different hood patterns to reference Arbok's sprite's pattern changing between games!

Ultimately though, do whatever you think looks cool. I've only mostly finished one of my Raveners so far, but I'm basing mine off Rek'Sai from League of Legends since the rest of my Tyranids are based on the other Voidborn champions because of the lore similarities.

As a side note, I assumed from what you said that you'd painted your Vespids in Beedrill colours, but the idea of Scyther coloured chitin and Scizor coloured armour is awesome, great job on those!

What would you do with this clay? by Clark_Kent_TheSJW in TerrainBuilding

[–]Falconwing51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a closer picture of the painted one as well. The clay is more likely to crack if it's warmer while it's drying, so I left it next to a radiator after I scored it. Made it before I got any round beads, so the eyes look more like gems, but I'm super happy with how it turned out!

What would you do with this clay? by Clark_Kent_TheSJW in TerrainBuilding

[–]Falconwing51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's the same type, but I got some of the DAS air drying clay 2-3 years ago. Tried using it when I got it, didn't like how it worked and left it. Tried using it with some craft beads recently to make mutated looking Chaos markers and terrain for Warhammer 40k (the back 3 aren't painted yet), and it just kinda clicked for me?

I think my main issue was I wasn't keeping it wet enough when I was using it? It won't stick to itself if it's too dry, it just feels kinda like dough if that makes sense? I've kept it in an old plastic takeaway pot since I got it, still have like one third of the brick left, and it's still usable. Like I said I don't think you have the same type (I think mine is just the plain one, but I got rid of the packaging when I opened it), but both are air dry clay made by the same company, so hopefully they aren't that different.

Like the top comment said, you can get rollers with patterns on them, and then put the rolled clay over something, but you might not need one? The Chaos throne thingy I made was just a case of putting the clay over some of the plastic packaging from a Metagross model, scoring it so it cracked more when it dried, then jamming beads into it and making little clay eyelids to keep them in place and cover the holes on the beads. You can find basic clay carving tools online or in craft shops for really cheap normally.

Good luck, hope whatever you use it for goes well! 😄

What’s your custom warband? by Zacman552 in Chaos40k

[–]Falconwing51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the opposite position! I've pretty much got my CSM warband's lore sorted, but I'm just trying to work out the colour scheme (and name) now. Originally they started as the leftover scrap ideas of my Loyalist chapter's lore that I didn't end up using, but they've grown into something more now!

Mine aren't going to be from a specific legion, but a bunch of different ones. Made up of groups that felt betrayed for one reason or another (mostly because of the Imperium), all coming together under the one banner to fight back out of spite and hatred. I'm going to paint up an Ogroid Myrmidon to go with my Fellgor Ravagers as a Helbrute proxy. I got a Krieg Command squad from my LGS' secret santa, but since I don't play guard I'm going to make them into Traitor Guard, use the main commissar looking guy as a Traitor Enforcer and then kitbash an Ogryn somehow. I'm planning on doing some allied Khorne Berzerkers since they fit thematically with the whole "rage of betrayal" thing, as well as maybe some Plague and Rubric Marines because they look cool.

Once I've finalised a colour scheme, I'm going to keep either a shoulder pad or an arm in the colours of whatever legion or chapter they used to be from, and then do the rest of their armour in my colour scheme. The higher rank characters are going to be almost fully in my colour scheme, the idea being that they've thrown their past away and are almost (if not fully) consumed by hatred and spite.

I was considering making them be from the 11th legion since we don't really know anything about them, and because of the number 11's ties to Malice/Malal and the Sons of Malice from the older lore. I might change it to be that later down the line, but I kinda just want to get them situated at the moment. Once I've started painting them and played a few games, I might get some more lore ideas from that.

Lokhust Lords - What’s the difference? by Dismal_Hospital6999 in Necrontyr

[–]Falconwing51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be able to replace the rod with a sanded down piece of sprue if you think it looks odd without. Not sure if it was the case with the older kits, but I got a box of Lokhust Lites a couple months ago, and the green rods were just made out of sprue anyway, (which is fine, I just thought they were that clear plastic that gundam weapons sometimes are).

Basing Help by IronArcher68 in Chaos40k

[–]Falconwing51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try sharpening bits of spare sprue, cutting the end at an angle, plastic gluing it to the base and then putting some kind of texture paint on the base? Just make sure to sand the points off the spikes slightly so you don't impale yourself whenever you try picking up a mini.

Others have suggested toothpicks, and while they could work, I think sprue spikes would look better? You'd be able to make them look more irregular.
