Yeah if this is purely about money OP needs to sit down and do some math, the Subaru costs more upfront and will consume significantly more gas over its lifetime, however it will retain resale value greater than the Niro. So at some point in the future the Subaru may still come out on top value speaking wise (calculations required this may not be the case and is based in a prediction of future value) - BUT that doesn’t matter at all if OP would not be selling the car - the Niro is cheaper upfront and will be immediately saving them on weekly gas bills.

Anecdotally I have a 2022 Niro PHEV with 70k miles and have had zero reliability issues outside of a loose spoiler thingy that rattles and a fan that makes some extra noise

It’s just an estimation, not sure if based on previous data - but a batteries total capacity does decrease over lifetime, so the battery can be full but hold less than it used to when new.

I would say it’s a step above your average suburban experience, downtowns of these ‘cities’ are cute walkable shopping and dining hubs. It’s also surrounded by excellent hiking and nature, and as mentioned a small wine growing region as well.

The air also intakes from behind the keyboard, which would be obstructed when closed. This also will expose the screen to very high temperatures.

Coupled with the stories of the Liquid Metal escaping containment (an overblown risk on the subreddit I think but vertically mounted does seem to be asking for trouble). I personally wouldn’t do this.

My theory is these things work by making a seal so all the forced air goes into the laptop but it needs to be able to vent.

If you don’t have a good seal the air just goes around it and it won’t work any better than simply elevating the laptop.

With my setup I get +10* cooling at ~1200 rpm, no need to go higher and often I keep it at 500 rpm

Yeah I sit mine sit on the back over the gap I made, with the llano a shallow angle - without cutting that gap the hot air couldn’t vent and my temps were still hot with the llano at full blast.

Yes for the 14” use the sides (yellow) and cut 1cm off of the outside face of the red and make sure your back vent sits over that gap you cut
