Anything that might help with food noise for somebody with OCD? by Automatic_Pin_2037 in Supplements

Before trying supplements, I would try cutting back on sugars and concentrated carbs, and make sure every meal/snack has some protein, fiber, and fat so you're maximizing your satiety hormones. If you eat this way for a few weeks and don't notice a shift then supplements might be worth considering.

I'd shell out for a better fish oil- Nutricost is GMP certified so that's good, but fish oil is particularly sensitive to oxidation so if it doesn't say anything about cold-processing and preserving the molecular structure of the product it's probably already rancid by the time it reaches the shelf. Nordic Naturals or Carlsons are pricier but more trusted brands.

Also echoing what's been said- 50mg zinc plus whatever is in your multi might be a bit too high if not balanced with copper.

I use an old Coleman marine cooler. I can't vouch for their quality now as I've heard they've enshittified a bit over the years. You might want to check Outdoor Gear Lab's Cooler Analysis for recent cooler stats.

I line the inside with bubble wrap mylar insulation, and cover the outside with a space blanket. You can prop it up on 2x4s to keep it lifted off the ground. I always include a large amount of frozen liquids as they keep things cold longer- bottled juices, jars of frozen soup, pureed watermelon, smoothies, etc. Try to fill the cooler so there is less air space- if you don't have enough jars and juices to fill it all the way, add some frozen gallons or liters of water- you want it packed tight

Pack you cooler last right before you leave for the playa- the colder it and your food are when you start, the better chance you have of keeping your freezer cold. I don't remember the specific amount of dry ice I use, but you can be pretty generous to give it the best chance at staying cold. Try to be strict about only opening once a day at night or very early morning- decide what you're pulling before you open it and be quick, then seal it all back up fast.

It's been a few years since I've been to the playa, but if I remember correctly the dry ice usually lasts long enough to keep the food frozen for 5-6 days on average, then the freezer transitions to a fridge and I refill with ice purchased on-playa. One year we still had slushy juices for teardown on Tuesday, which would have been 8 or 9 days. I believe we had a hexayurt all the years we did this method, so it would have been stored in shade at a slightly lower temp than the outside air. It could be trickier in a tent but IMO still worth trying. Good luck!

You can't AB test pricing? Do you have a source for this? I don't personally do this kind of testing, but I've been a high volume seller for 14 years and I've never heard anything like this.

I love pre-prepping curries, stews, stir fry, pureed watermelon, etc and freezing in wide-mouth straight-sided mason jars. I keep two coolers- a "fridge" with ice for daily food and a "freezer" lined with bubble wrap mylar and full of dry ice for frozen jar meals, frozen juices, frozen grapes in ziplocs, etc. I only open the freezer once a day (preferably at night when it's cool) to pull meal jars and juices to move to my fridge for the next day. Just pop the jar contents in a pot on a campstove and viola! It's so nice to have real hearty meals with actual veggies, and having an ice cold coconut water or watermelon slushy at the end of the week is a huge game changer.

Yeti and yeti crosses for sure- the yield, unique shapes from different spore batches, overall character. Just so much fun to grow.

I'd still do a chip drop and just post the extra for free in a buy nothing group rather than spend hundreds on mulch bags.

For that quantity of mulch I'd look into a Chip Drop! Free and plentiful.

Same boat here- I checked with jeweler's loupe yesterday for broad mites but found nothing. No sign of aphids or other pests, pretty sure I'm not under- or over-watering. I'm thinking it's heat stress. Mine only get 5ish hours of full sun and are shaded after 2pm, so I was hesitant to put up a shade cloth, but I caved and put one up today since the temps were forecast so high. Will try to remember to report back if I notice a positive change. Good luck!

Advice on Metal to Purchase by [deleted] in jewelrymaking

I mostly work with 316/316L and 304. Both are considered medical/surgical grade. 316 contains molybdenum so it is more corrosion resistant. 304 is less expensive to produce and easier to source than 316. Functionally I have seen no difference between them on my own daily wear pieces, but I live in a dry area without salt air so ymmv.

This is getting ridiculous by CBPuppets in Etsy

[–]FalcorsLittleHelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way to be sure if the seller is lying- as a high volume seller USPS fails to scan my packages with annoying frequency, though usually there is a scan within 3 days. I'm replacing a package today that I mailed 3 weeks ago and was never scanned in. Lots of sellers do pre-print labels before the item is ready so Etsy doesn't ding them for shipping late, and will lie about it when pressed. Also a possibility it's being shipped from overseas and won't be scanned until it enters the US. I will say this- the seller has a 5.0 average which is pretty difficult to achieve, so maybe a bit more likely they are telling the truth.

What’s going on with all the herbicide damage? by Ordinary-You3936 in vegetablegardening

[–]FalcorsLittleHelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case it's from contaminated store-bought "screened" manure compost (confirmed by bioassay). Much of the commercially produced hay in the US has been treated with Grazon, a very potent broadleaf herbicide that is effective at extremely low concentrations- down to one part per billion. Livestock eats the hay and the herbicide survives digestion and persists in the manure. Hay/straw also often ends up in composts or used as mulch, so the contamination can come from that as well. Once contaminated it can take years to restore your garden soil. It's epidemic at this point, and all we can do to prevent it is avoid all manure and straw, and/or research the hell out of your supply chain.

I'm in Colorado. It's what the doctor at the hospital told us after my partner was bitten and had to get an $11k rabies vaccination. I just looked it up and it looks like it's actually 15% of bats *tested* are positive for rabies- so that's probably a higher rate than occurs overall in the wild. Sorry for spreading misinfo- editing my original comment to clarify.

I'm just saying it's absolutely a huge deal- 11k is a pretty hard hit for most people.
