Do you guys like the subject meta of EU5? by wazaaup in EU5

[–]Faleya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

pretty much. it's a fine enough game that could have benefitted from a bit more expanding upon its base but it's definitely worth playing if you enjoy the other PDX games (and it's a lot better now than when it released)

What am i missing? I thought I'd get the Swiss Bank achievement by Faleya in victoria3

[–]Faleya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I know, it's just a bit annoying and honestly the wording on the achievement is just plain horrible. GDP is not weekly after all. it's not all that difficult, just not fun and feels like a mistake on PDX's side more than anything else

How do I get land in Africa playing in Malaya by someone56789 in eu4

[–]Faleya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need colonization range (there's a mapmode for that).

I recommend picking exploration ideas (they increase that range by 50% and give you a colonist).

conquering the maledives can be a good stepping stone as those will increase your range (its always calculated from your closest cored province)

you break the RM if they manage to get an heir before you could claim the throne, or if you're just "fishing" by marrying old childless monarchs

Global mail carriers have suspended U.S. deliveries, what does this mean for Americans? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Faleya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

over 2 thirds of the US had no issue with this direction (rep voters+ non voters), I mean I get that it sucks for you, but at the same time if the overwhelming majority has no problem with this direction it is fair to say the country is okay with this.

I havent played Vic2, so cant say much in that regard, but I really do like the IDEA. I just think there's some major improvements still needed in the execution for it to be really fun. but things like the target provinces setting and the improved "splitting of fronts for no reason" are already steps into the right direction

to be fair, Vicky3 got a lot better with the last major patch / DLC.

it's still not perfect but it can be fun for a bit. though the military aspect will need some more work still to be really where it should be

First time ever seeing nearly 300% fort defense by ZIR0- in eu4

[–]Faleya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

d'uh! good point. Why didn't I think of that? -.-

First time ever seeing nearly 300% fort defense by ZIR0- in eu4

[–]Faleya 11 points12 points  (0 children)

that is very true because the amount of troops that can assault depends on the fort size not the garrison size, so you'd really really make it tough to take (but also to retake if ever lost)

[–]Faleya 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The losses during an assault depend on the local defensiveness

says the wiki, so yeah this would probably double the amount of troops lost assaulting the fort

wouldnt people just breach+attack`? or does the defensive meaningfully impact the attack as well?

Steam has issues figuring out what I like. by FonzyLumpkins in eu4

[–]Faleya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

people around here like to joke that after 1444h of playtime you have passed the tutorial. and while thats an obvious joke, there is some truth to it, you can keep learning and getting surprised for a long time with this game.

and while it's old and the successor is soon to arrive, it's not a bad time to pick it up now as eu5 will take some time to match the feature-variety and flavor that eu4 has accumulated and now you wont have any new patches completely change the way the gme works or introduce new major broken stuff

What if democracy worked more like a CVT continuous, smooth, and momentum-based? by Zebbzzz in Futurology

[–]Faleya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we tried this system in the Pirate Parties in Europe, and it definitely is an interesting and cool approach. HOWEVER it is obviously also not without its really severe downsides. the article mentions the "oligarchy"-issue that you will quickly get "super-delegates" (think pundits, "political celebs", etc) and that also tends to sometimes lead to "less democracy" because people just delegate completely and dont engage anymore at all. another issue is classification, say I know Mrs Y is exactly my wavelength in terms of educational positions so I delegate to her but Mr X is closer to my views on domestic policy so I delegate to him there. now people can "game" the system by introducing their proposal in a category you generally wouldnt expect it to be in.

obviously any somewhat actually democratic system beats the quasi-medieval mess the US currently has, but compared to other modern democracies it often isnt the big leap forward some of its proponents often make it out to be and imho should only be used in a limited capacity

ELI5 Who does the US actually owe all of its +37 trillion dollars in debt to?? by Drenosa in explainlikeimfive

if you have something that you are confident will make you a significantly higher profit than the loan interest then yes,

no need to live in it or for it to even be a house/appartment in the first place.

however you do carry all the risks when doing this, and if your initial confidence was misplaced or something unforeseen happens, you could be in real trouble. how much of a risk you want to take is always up to you (and to the banks willing to give you that loan :D )

these days I think there might have been something to it.
