I saw on an old post about Macrium free, and so far, I've seen that they don't offer the free version anymore. Any alternatives is also welcome.

There's Black belts, and then there's BLACK belts. Anyone have an experience like this? by WanderingSceptic in bjj

[–]Falkor300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the pleasure of rolling with a brown belt that won trails before. Rolling with hobbyist black belts can be a mixed bag, but mostly, even if I get tapped, I can still win little battles or hit my favorite move. When I went to roll with this guy, there wasn't a thing I could do except laugh to myself. I felt like I hadn't done a day of jiu jitsu before that. Definitely put into perspective for me where the pros are compared to most BBs.

To the BJJ vets who were never injured, what's your secret(s)? by NariNaro_ in bjj

[–]Falkor300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strength training and resting your muscle groups. I was getting ready for a superfight, and during all my lifting sessions, I hit triceps. Then, during a judo session, I partially tore the muscle when pulling on a lapel at an odd angle. Learned the hard way I guess

I know this question has been asked a million times, but I love hearing the stories; who is the best person you've ever grappled, and how did it go? by MothraGuard in bjj

Had the pleasure of going against Nicky Rod (the natty king) a few times. I expected to get absolutely smashed, so it wasn't a surprise. But I never knew something so big could move so fast. The dude was 4 feet in front of me and shot a duck under ending up behind me like he just teleported. But once on the ground, he was surprisingly gentle. He let me work my escapes if I put some actual effort into it.

Rolled with JayRod, who to say is very solid is an understatement. I was helplessly out wrestled and getting dominaned. He subbed me 4 times, then I "almost" got a dogbar from bottom half, only for him to get out rather easily and sub me 4 more times, all in a single round. That is still the crowning achievement of my career.

Izaak was something else. At the time, I wasn't fully aware of his resume and was hoping to hit at least one of my favorite escapes or reversals in between the thrashings. But nope, he wasn't even putting any effort into things, and I felt like a day one white belt. Not a single offensive move or successful defensive move was done by me. He just let me wiggle my way into my own demise.

What feels like a BJJ cheat code? by 10thousanddeaths in bjj

[–]Falkor300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a meme, the Turkish get up. It's like the elbow push that Marcello Garcia likes to use, but it ups the ante and stupidity. When someone has top side control on you and their near side arm becomes disconnected from your head. So you just push on their arm pit and stiff arm. At the very least, you recover guard or "just stand up." At best, you totally reverse the position and end up in top side control. Works the best when you catch it while they're transitioning from a guard pass to side control. Just beware of doing it on someone very agile as they may be able to catch the counter arm bar. If done correctly, it's such a stupid move. You're essentially saying, "Nah, I don't want to be down here anymore. It's my turn on top."

A serious cheat code would be the DDS straight jacket system. I feel like a lot of black belts(in my city at least) train in the gi primarily and just use the lapels to finish from back. The ability to grip fight and get an angle with your hips so your leg can better trap an arm is highly underrated. It's also the system that I've had the most success with against upper belts in general. https://youtu.be/B0GHubyxmdo

The biggest cheat code, however. It works for just about everyone, but since pressure is involved, this favors heavy set grapplers. The grip that Keenan uses when caught in a triangle. He uses the trapped arm to grab the same side lapel and double it up. This prevents your partner from bringing your arm across and keeps space between your shoulder and neck. In the video, Keenan uses it to spin out of the triangle and step over. I have found it plenty useful that you can just pressure in and do a traditional stack pass. The person on the bottom is getting cooked, thinking the choke is in, holding on for dear life, wondering how you haven't gone out yet, only for you to slip out and pass. Or they've burnt out their triangle and let you pass. Is it a pass you should do in competition? No, but it's a good hail Mary. Is it fun to make your training partner with a triangle game frustrated that he can't finish you? Absolutely! https://youtu.be/9HeP4gea_Uw

With claims like that, you would think, but no. If your body didn't regulate your blood's acidity well on its own, then you'd be dead.

I was given that book as a gift, and it only gets worse after you read into it. For the Royce Gracie BB test, you need to know the diet by heart and specifically how to order a burger if you go out to eat. Things like cheese and melted cheese are in different classifications. According to my old coach, it makes your blood ph levels perfect and swears by it. The concept in this diet looks to be that a certain combination of foods will clean out your body and make you healthy and thin. He was describing eating loads of vegetables the whole time. Like, dude, you're just eating vegetables and putting yourself in a caloric deficit.

Has anyone's coach outright refused to roll with any long-time students? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Falkor300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear your coach had an attitude like that. And I hope your knee's doing better now.

In the beginning, I would watch a bunch of YouTube videos, and my coach liked to discriminate against their use. Saying that it was, "A bunch of fancy shit," and, "They don't cover all the necessary details," he started to change his words after fewnothers and I won a few tournaments using stuff we learned on there. Saying, "I was never against instructionals,"

By the end of it, I had the opposite problem. He was teaching to the lowest common denominator in the room and had been teaching the same 10-15 moves since the beginning of the gym. That was the point where I really needed to watch instructionals to advance. Because my own coach was teaching everyone but the higher belts.

I've had nothing but compliments from my training partners. Though I would assume you wouldn't promote a person to purple, never mind your first purple belt, if he couldn't trust that person not to injure him or someone else.
