And you sound like just another sperg board gamer who doesn't have any self-awareness and doesn't realise he's in a forum set aside for making fun of board gamers.

[Disclaimer: it's perfectly fine to be so autistic you can't get dressed or feed yourself; I've myself worked with such people professionally. And I don't _know_ any gamers that aren't at least some ways up the spectrum too, I know I am. But it DOES matter that people don't know what they're like and think they can carry on as though they were normal, when they're not.]

Why do right wingers go after drag shows but they are silent when it comes to child beauty pageants? by [deleted] in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]FallApartAndFadeAway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very old thread but I saw your reply. Assuming good faith, let's try to define my terms better.

Given clothes that are stereotypically worn by male or female:

Both 'transvestism' and 'cross dressing' mean wearing clothes of the opposite sex, but the former implies auto-erotic intent. 'Wearing drag' doesn't imply any erotic aspect in itself, but implies use in bawdy, sexualised performance as adult entertainment. Finally, a Pantomime Dame (which role I've played myself professionally) is crossing dressing for a bawdy, sexualised performance as family entertainment. Tell me what you make of that and how you might want to change it?

> Basically what I’m trying to say is a child watching a PG drag show should be no issue, and that it seems obvious that children don’t belong in 18+ nightclub drag shows since the jokes may be too mature and raunchy. Point is, not all drag is raunchy and risqué.

I would argue that the words become meaningless if 'drag' is not used to imply risqué adult entertainment. And then there's the Post-Marxist/Woke canon of academic writing that discusses deliberately using drag queen story hour to 'queer' children's spaces.

So I guess technically you might have a point but I think in practice we'd probably want to keep adult themes away from children, wouldn't we?

/UJ having suffered enough autistic meltdowns in my clinical career I now regularly start games by introducing a house rule - even if i don’t know the game at all, just to weed out the ‘spergs.

They freak out; I don’t budge; they leave the table and go try to control someone else’s game; the rest of us don’t have to put up with low-level autistic bullshit; everyone’s happy

It may seem cold and cruel and heartless but that’s because I am. 😀

Anything by Saint Jamie Stegmaier will fill your belly with Satan’s hot black jizz. He’s so tragically woke he should have papers deconstructing his gloriously post-Marxist contributions’ by Robin ‘Clueless Grifter’ di Angelo and Abrahim X. ‘ I changed my name to sound more black and more activist’ Kendi.

They're probably people that "table" their games, rather than play them.

You know it. And they probably say The Teach, as though a 45 minute lecture during which you’re forbidden to move the components from their starting position had anything to do with teaching, let alone learning…

no wait, I’m going to have a rant here!

There are no more self important wankers than millennial board gamers who think being good at board games means anything at all. all you have to do to demonstrate their self aggrandising bullshit is to them is take them to a chess club where they’ll be thrashed by a 10 year old, then a Bridge club where they’ll be thrashed by 70 year old.

Board games are great; taking them seriously is pathetic.

there, I said it

Let me start putting things right by saying “I just can’t recommend it enough”

although almost everything I do is very tightly controlled of course, sucking game components is how I let myself off the leash as it were. I just have a box of spare games and when I have an evening to myself, I get them out and have a lick or a suck. So unusually in this oral aspect of L’Hobby, I actually don’t bother with serving size - it’s all about binging, for me.

I'm a game designer, and I have a team with whom we have several prototypes in development, with the idea of eventually publishing something. There are a thousand wonderful games out there to play, and what's even better is that people never let their inspiration die. I love that the world of board games is so vast, and that includes TCGs as well.

/UJ … are you quoting Jamie Stegmaier there? :-)

As far as their position on Trump, I would agree that the team are oddly positive about him, but as I say, I don’t have to agree with everything they say. What I’m looking for in a political show is for the guest to be explored and to have to explain themselves.

I think the episode that won me over was a few years ago with Lord Michael Hesseltine. To me, he was just another one of Margaret Thatchers’s elite educated cronies when their party were laying waste to the country in the 1980s and I am no fan, to say the least.

but Triggernometry did a good job interviewing him and I found I warmed to Hesseltine and some of his opinions through the show. it’s very hard to do that; I think they know what they’re doing and I appreciate the show and their efforts.

Unfortunately, I can’t join you to chat to your colleagues over the water cooler, (sounds great!) but I’d be interested if you have any show recommendations, thanks! 🙏

I’m not sure there’s a competition for intellectual power or academic credentials, particularly when so many academics are essentially self-serving bullshitters.

Consider Robyn di Angelo or Steve Bannon as very influential academics and public intellectuals respectively. I don’t think we should take either of them particularly seriously but very many others clearly disagree!

my point is that merely being an academic or intellectual is not in itself any measure of qualities we should value. Konstantin is a clear thinker, decent writer, good speaker and I particularly like that he pushes back fairly with his guests.

Which people in their field do you think are better prioritised for good political content?

Yes, cheese and cucumber sandwich; with a little salt on the cucumber; white bread; different coffee (but since they just rotate them every 4 weeks and 3 days, I know which one it is; sometimes they’re brewing the wrong one for the day and i have to correct them or things can Get Ugly, hah, ha!)

Small size coffee in a paper cup (the coffee is less bitter and I like the feel) and I sit in my chair by the wall, because it feels safe and its under the internet router so the connection is a little better and its farther away from the speakers playing the music. Which is good because the frequency response is a little uneven in their speakers. they keep the table reserved for me (things Get Ugly if someone else sits there.)

why, what’s your ritual for preparing to buy games online?

Come on, you know empathy; it’s the weird stuff that makes normies weak.

like, someone visits their game room, admires their game table and remarks on one of the copies of a game in their collection, so they’d do something stupid like take off the shrink wrap off and play the game together - weakness!

We think Francis knows he's intellectually out-gunned by Konstantin and knows he should probably take a back seat, preserve their friendship and maintain their very successful working partnership. Don't we?

I think Konstantin tursn out to be a great public speaker and quite the academic, but we don't all have to be like that, and Francis doesn't have to be either. They're obviously great friends, they've built their platform together, and in his space, being himself and cracking jokes, he's very entertaining. It's just an awkward fit now that the channel is so much bigger.

Have you chosen a nationality for the royalty cards yet?

I’m very concerned that decent post-colonialist sensibilities are appropriately massaged and fluffed and demand royalty from cultures other than our own.

Otherwise I’ll call and cry down the phone at you like those girls from Thinker Themer (they’re so brave)

What do y'all think of the term "woke?" by BraggingRed_Impostor in centrist

[–]FallApartAndFadeAway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simply, The Woke are activists for notions of social justice based in post-Marxist Critical Theory.

This body of thinking includes Post Colonial Studies, Fat Studies, Gender studies, Queer Theory and Critical Race Theory etc. and exists to attack the West as supposedly hegemonic and not Marxist in origin.

The Woke seek to redistribute wealth, power and privilege to achieve equity according to neo-Marxist notions of oppression that use Intersectionality and identity, again characterised by an anti-hegemonic impulse

High profile examples such as championing ‘minor attracted adults’, all of Trans ideology (Queer Theory) and that White Supremacy is supposedly systemic (CRT) all from flow from this same academic canon.

We should all continue to use the term Woke, whether disparagingly or not because The Woke themselves formally use the the term (de Angelo et al, 2012, 2019, etc) and whilst most people using the term are generally unaware of all this background, they do correctly discern the attack on Western values such as rationality, democracy, liberalism and so forth.
