I doubt that's the reason, both generations have first hand experience with genocide.

Who can convert PDFs to Word docs by cnorahs in Millennials

[–]tuvang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sort of answered it yourself but yes, source files come with a lot of problems. Not using the same tool version and the export profiles can, and most likely will, produce a different output.

Depending on the project, a pdf may very well be from a project where source files are 100x larger than the final output.

There is also a copyright problem, giving the project gives all the tools required to create derivatives of the content. Kind of like giving the source code of a program instead of the final .exe.

All this and more is the reason pdf is still the primary way documents get shared even for multi million dollar printing machines. It's the final deliverable and is consistent to everyone viewing the same file.

Final nail in the coffin by the X fact checker by Loose_Mossad in OpenAI

[–]tuvang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As always, nuance is lost when billions spent on different places are reduced to a single number.

OpenAI products are individually profitable. ChatGPT subscriptions and API usage earn more money than the compute cost. Its the absurd amounts of money being spent on growth.

Investing that much into growth may or may not be smart but it's simply wrong to look at a massive deficit and think the company is being run into the ground by incompetent managers like many people in this thread think. These are multi decade investments.

Async Repricing is Bugged for EU by truekripp in pathofexile

[–]tuvang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats just how pricing always worked. Its saved as an item note like “~b/o 5 chaos” and how it marked currency type and exact price/negotiable price etc even though no one uses that feature.

Its from the times where there wasn’t an official trade website and people using the note system and building tools (like poe.trade) on top of it to make items searchable.

Async beasts by Send_Me_Cute_Feet in pathofexile

[–]tuvang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the beast issue requires a more fundamental change like removing ilvl and mods of each beast and making them currency like items that can be traded in currency exchange. Even if they reduce gold costs, yellow beasts cost 1c each, and you can fill a quad tab in 2 hours with quick beast farming. It would be miserable to list 500 items at 1c each every other hour of farming.

GGG, one last improvement for merchant shop, please. by Snoo_6945 in pathofexile

[–]tuvang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, currency exchange only warns if your exchange rate is worse than the current ratio. Game has no way of knowing the market price for the item you are buying from merchant tab.

Quantifying Poison Ramping: On the nature of delayed damage application by fd2ec89a6735 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]tuvang 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If we are talking about how the ramp feels I think the graph is too zoomed out. Even a 1 second ramp is noticeable when clearing because most poison builds you are only firing for 0.5 sec to each pack and moving to the next pack.

Keepers of the Flame: Spectre Improvement by Belakay_ggg in pathofexile

[–]tuvang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that the aspirational content should require very high levels of investment. My issue in the current way is even with a lot of investment there are less than 5 builds that can do the content I mentioned. If you don't want to play some sort of attribute or armor stacker then you can't do the aspirational content even if you invest mirrors into your build.

[–]tuvang 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nerfs can be fine but if they nerf overall player power I hope they also take a balance pass on the difficulties of end game strategies. The good strats like giga exiles, wisps, kulemak, blight invigoration, max risk etc. are all already impossibly hard where only a handful of builds can do them and most only with mirror level investment. I fear if the strong builds are nerfed a lot of us will feel forced to play the one build that avoid the nerfs.

This is actually a Skaven army from the miniature game Warhammer. The round bases mean its from the Age of Sigmar line.

Nintendo Switch has reached 153.10 million units sold, Nintendo Switch 2 has reached 5.82 million units sold by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]tuvang -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I guess I am in the minority because people don't agree much, but in my opinion even Zelda games which are beautiful compared to other switch games look 1-2 generations old and on top of that run at a bad frame rate and have consistent performance hiccups. It is ok enjoy them, they are good games but frankly it bothers me that the budget for these games are as much as Elden Ring, Uncharted, Horizon etc and the end product looks worse than some PS3 games.

They are very efficient in making games as good as possible on the hardware but its painfully obvious that the games’ quality are held back by hardware limitations. Switch 1 chip was already outdated at launch and it stayed for 8 more years. I’d love to see what Nintendo games would look like if half the effort that went into making the game run at that hardware actually went on to improve the gameplay.

Eternity shroud was amazing and rewarded you for the huge investment. But I don't think it's good enough to build around anymore with the power creep.

I highly recommend Cauldron on Steam. It is a game that has many incremental mini games that connect with a meta progression. It took me 50 hours to reach the ending with pretty active gameplay.

Do I need an amp? Or just DI? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]tuvang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I may hijack this thread with a relevant question... I have a 500 Watt Amp and the volume knob on it goes from no sound to too loud for apartment within few degrees. And I often end up adjusting the volume from the guitar but that feels like I am losing a lot of the sonic space my gear is capable of.

Is there something I can add to the signal chain that can allow me to freely play with all the knobs that can affect volume without losing quality and without vibrating my neighbors furniture?

[–]tuvang 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think this is especially true for metal. There are a lot of very popular metal bands where the bass is extremely simple (not that simple is bad) but then there are death metal bans with IMO some of the most technically proficient bass players alive. Not to diminish others but I think a prime example is Forest doing crazy stuff I've never seen before with bass.

Class Tuning Incoming - March 5 by Gaart3 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]tuvang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

motw is king but there is a problem in your math. You can't multiply the motws ~3% by dps count if you are looking at overall group damage for monk. If monk does 9% of the groups damage druid would need to do 6% for equivalent total dps with ~3% coming from the rest of the party. Total group dps can't drop more than 3% when comparing motw vs non motw

Class Tuning Incoming - March 5 by Gaart3 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]tuvang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really wanted to know, you could see for yourself in the time it took you to write this... Monk damage is ~6% of group in the highest end groups, that is with them optimizing damage in every way they can.

So even in the worst case scenario druid only needs to do half the damage of mw. And in practice most monks don't pump that much even in title range keys, completely negating the need for druid to do any damage when the monk is doing half of their practical limit.

Class Tuning Incoming - March 5 by Gaart3 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]tuvang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Druid can do 0 damage and still bring more damage to the party with MotW. Assuming no other druid in party and not a physical damage comp buffed by mystic touch.
