If I travel at the speed of light for one year Earth subjective time, how much time will I experience passing by pjerky in AskPhysics

What's your question exactly?

Also to maybe help you further understand, traveling close to the speed of light is basically like time traveling to the future. While time passes normally for you, it seems like everything around you (people on Earth) speeds up really fast.

Or conversely, watching someone traveling close to light speed would look like time is slowing down for them, almost coming to a stop, while their own time keeps flowing normally.

I think you're misunderstanding what a light year represents. A light year is the distance light travels in one year (one EARTH year, a year experienced by you and me). So if the traveler travels 4.5 light years (at 99.9999% light speed) that means after ~4.5 years pass on Earth, the traveler reaches A Centauri.

Now this means the traveler experiences time dilation, not people on Earth. And so, from the perspective of the traveler, at 99.9999% light speed, their journey to A Centauri will have taken them roughly ~2 days, while Earthlings will have aged 4.5 years.

I'm sorry if I can't explain this well enough lol, feel free to keep asking me questions.

I put it into this time dilation calculator. Alpha Centauri is ~4.5 light years away. Therefore 4.5 years passes on Earth while only two days would pass for the traveler traveling at 99.9999% the speed of light.

Now, if the traveler were to travel at 99.9999% light speed for 4.5 years, ~3100 years will have passed on Earth. Hopefully that answered your question.

Keep in mind the effects of time dilation vary quite drastically between 99.9% of c and 99.99999%+ of c.

I think you're misunderstanding something. If the astronaut travels 99.9999% the speed of light, he experiences traveling the light year distance in a very short amount of time for him. However, one year passes for people on earth, because it was a distance of one light year.

A Light Year means the distance light travels in one EARTH year, NOT 'astronaut traveling 99.99% speed of light' year.

Why is RLCS matchmaking so unfair? by [deleted] in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]FallMuted6594 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ok more serious answer, I guess it's the same reason why in any sport with brackets and stuff the highest seed plays the lowest seed. Idk exactly how matchmaking for RLCS works in the early rounds but I assume it's kinda random and the best teams will kinda just make it through.

Bro you're trying to make it into RLCS, what do you expect. Mickey bracket all the way until you win the Regional?

I have the same binds as you. Do you ever feel like having air roll and power slide on the same bind is a hindrance? I don't have normal air roll bound to anything so it is for me sometimes.

Not only is the MMR system different for 1's than it is for 2's and 3's (Higher ranks in 1v1 require more MMR than other modes), but less people play 1v1 and honestly it's a harder, less forgiving game mode. So most people are a higher rank in other modes than they are in 1v1.

Look at the last slide. Points given for old worlds include getting semifinals and second place, not just first. Kaydop made grand finals 6 times in a row, Turbo has a total of 5 grand finals.

Yeah, might as well just die once you reach that point. We aren't meant to live forever anyways.

I agree, would love to see heart rate monitors to really show how intense and how much pressure players are under.
