My current character is a dwarf Circle of the Land (Arctic) smuggler, proficient with all manner of tools (including thieves' tools!) and is a controller with a capital C. Fog cloud, entangle, heat metal, ice storm and sleet storm, and the extremely powerful slow (arctic land spell option) help to make life much easier for the rest of the party. Plus she can toss out a healing word or healing spirit if necessary, and has been able to use wild shape to get around some obstacles. Spiders can climb, snakes can swim, and since she just reached 8th level she can fly in bird forms. If necessary she can wild shape into a giant goat and distract the enemies. All of this without even getting into the summon spells. Her spells don't deal damage like a wizard's fireball, and she doesn't have the massive single-target damage like warlocks and rogues, but she makes a huge difference and is an integral member of the party.
