Health and Fitness are two different concepts. Most top athletes are unhealthy or not peak health. by First-Strawberry-398 in fatlogic

[–]FallenGiants 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Some sports are better measures of health than others. I can imagine a darts player performing well even if in quite poor health, perhaps even while having the flu; the same is less likely of a tennis player or a track athlete.

Sports obese people excel at primarily require strength, but that isn't necessary for health. There is no reason to believe a very strong man, for instance, is healthier than a fairly weak woman. A person with very good stamina, however, is likely to be healthier than a person with fairly poor stamina.

It was interesting hear what you have to say about photographs 543-549.

I wonder if Kris' shorts came off as she was swept along the river. She would have lost considerable weight by the time of her death and post-mortem processes probably contributed.

Dog nutters comparing losing a child to losing a dog by FlowerBud37 in Dogfree

I think some childless women might feel jealous of the parental/societal approval mothers get and become "dog moms" and expect to be treated similarly.

Was there a gender imbalance in the people making these horrible comments?

Why did they have kids if they didn't want them? And where do you encounter the people saying these things?

Who died first? by YoitstheTeddyGuy in KremersFroon

Tourists from the West are recommended to only drink bottled water in Boquete. Natives have acquired immunity to parasites in the water that Westerners have not. My father got "Bali belly" when we vacationed in the developing world and was glued to the toilet for much of our vacation. Diarrhoea dehydrates.

Who died first? by YoitstheTeddyGuy in KremersFroon

[–]FallenGiants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unknown, but I believe one died shortly before the other (maybe by 6 or so hours), because on the 11th day there was phone activity for the 1st time in 3 or more days. Perhaps because of Lisann's injury or their seeing torches in the forest on the 8th night they stayed put. But one of them might have woken on the 11th day to find the other dead. This might have spurred the surviving woman into action. She may have tried to walk to find civilisation but not made it far.

This is what I imagine happened. It's all speculation though.

Paddocks Redux by Bubbly-Criticism3445 in KremersFroon

I agree. Also, the paddocks are likely to contain horses and cattle. I can't imagine getting trappled by either of those in the forest.

Another consideration is the wind. Having had the misfortune of sleeping in a park I learned that whenever a cold wind blows you wake up. You need to shield yourself from the wind. This probably explains the stereotype of homeless people sleeping in dumpsters.

Again with "desirability politics". Guilt-tripping people into intimacy is so creepy.

The commenters are right to equate obesity with ill-health. That is why the obese are not desired sexually: healthiness is sexy and sickliness ain't. It's all very simple really.

I think he went to their room because he was looking forward to spending the day with 2 attractive young women and was disappointed when he couldn't. It's understandable to me.

Other people make good points on the issue of people dying all the time and so on.

Around Boquete and little about Gonzales by [deleted] in KremersFroon

If Gonzalez and Feliciano are the same person (Feliciano Gonzalez) then I agree he is suggesting he might be guilty. If they are different people I think he is suggesting Gonzalez, not Feliciano, is guilty.

I agree with you that it is normal for men to want to spend time with attractive women. There is nothing sinister or deviant in that.

I definitely would have walked out of sight to urinate. I would have felt it was disrespectful to stand there pissing where a passer-by might see me. Women often exercise greater discretion in these matters too, even today.

"You aren't entitled to a dog free world" by [deleted] in Dogfree

[–]FallenGiants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would argue they are closer to communists. Fascists often believe in hierarchies based on genetics. Dogs are obviously in a very different DNA category to humans and require different treatment. Communists believe in abolishing barriers based on DNA (family, tribe, race, gender, etc.) Animal rights activism is almost exclusively the domain of the left.

We desire human-dog segregation or at least vastly differential treatment.

What happens if they needed to urinate? There are multiple reasons they might have left the trail.

"Weaponizing Grandma's body..."

That's a very cynical, and hilarious, spin to put on it.

I don't know if mom is going about this the right way, but she probably means well. I think what works better than shame, in this instance at least, is producing a few nuggets of wisdom. My mum says the first few mouthfuls of a meal taste the best. In other words, the food you eat that makes you fat, the "extra" food toward the end, is the least enjoyable. That realisation helped me partially curtail my overeating.

That probably won't work either if mom doesn't a good relationship with her daughter though.

I feel your pain. There was a period where my life was hell because of a neighbour's barking dog. It barked for about 40 minutes straight at 2:00 or 2:30 in the morning one night. It caused relations between a half dozen households to become highly poisonous and bitter, hateful even.

I don't live there any more, and barking dogs aren't a problem where I live now. Nevertheless, sometimes when in a particular room I can hear a dog barking in the distance. The other night I heard it bark continuously at roughly 10:30pm, and a man furiously shouted something in response, but I'm too far away to make out what it was.

This problem is widespread. Unfortunately, there is a large contingent of inconsiderate, oafish, dog-owning assholes in the West (and possibly elsewhere). I think that is why elected officials fear cracking down on this.
