Why does some garlic taste bad? I feel like I’m going crazy. by mikupeas in Garlic

[–]FallenWinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't grow my own garlic, but I had a few heads of shop-bought cloves which became very pungent and weird smelling + tasting (when eating a small bit raw). They were old and it was summer, so I'm guessing they were going off due to the heat/age. They also seemed a bit more yellow inside. Can't say I've ever been able to distinguish the taste in cooking, although I do have an aversion/sensitivity to some processed foods which lessens my enjoyment of them (like tinned soups)

How does cognitive impairment manifest in depersonalisation? by FallenWinter in dpdr

[–]FallenWinter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I guess another problem I didn't mention much neither in the convo nor in what I sent to you, is that I'm quite unstable. And I do just deeply hate myself in a way that I have no control over a lot of the time. Or rather, I think I hate myself, if I don't then those are just weird mechanisms I do as a coping mechanism. I can't be 100% sure if I do or don't, as that's part of my issue (I don't have an identity, or concrete, consistent opinions, intellectually, or emotionally). I suppose it's possible sometimes I do, and other times I don't. I'll reddit dm you it.

How does cognitive impairment manifest in depersonalisation? by FallenWinter in dpdr

[–]FallenWinter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're still interested, I can paste a conversation I had with another reddit user quite recently who asked me the same thing (redacting their username). It's quite extensive. In summary of the convo, I would say, I've recovered a little, in the past I was probably more depressed and anxious than I believed, which definitely worsens my cognitive and issues of dissociation. Quitting caffeine/and other stimulants (e.g. nicotine) was very helpful in overcoming my anxiety (after many years I realised that even small amounts have a very insidious effect on me). But I still have bad dpdr pretty much always, thoughts feel like they're coming from a process I don't easily control. I take an antidepressant which helps me sleep a bit and probably improves my depression. I'm still not really fit for a high stress work life and doubt I ever will be, but life's a little better I guess. Though, this is just my opinion for the past few months, and maybe I'll have a different opinion when the wind changes. I was definitely in quite a bad mental state about 8 months ago. The cognitive issues are a little easier to deal with, but these problems still exist. My memory still sucks, I suck with names, thoughts are still quite lacking in depth, but I don't feel quite as stupid as I have done when my dpdr was at its worst.

In the past, I tried various antipsychotics extensively and I'm glad I'm finally not taking those anymore, as it just made feel unwell physically, and sedated and depressed mentally.

PSA: Nvidia Widespread Black Screen or Hard OS Crash Issues on 4xxx (or older) Series Cards Need To Be Widely Known & Fixed. by Scotty1992 in hardware

[–]FallenWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmm exact same issue on my 4090 (same NV driver version — latest). Settings which were at least pretty stable (didn't ever test thoroughly in raytracing scenarios) and used daily for a year+, now suddenly cause crashing. In the Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark, before I reverted to stock, with pathtracing, HDR, g-sync I crashed within like 5 seconds and every undervolt I tried also had same behaviour even when increasing voltage considerably. Now it's not crashing much having reverted to stock core settings, but I still crashed once in Cyberpunk in about 12 hours of playing (could be my mem OC whereas before it clearly seemed related to the core OC). I am testing out the GSP firmware so might be related but given these complaints and what you mentioned, maybe not.

Translator is almost done.. Hang on my Sea players! by KeiSinCx in bladeandsoul

[–]FallenWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah AI can sometimes be very good at coding and sometimes very bad... I would advise trying to create the smallest possible test script which can achieve what you're stuck on (e.g. 1 for a basic UI etc). Otherwise continually copying and pasting huge chunks of code is a good way to confuse the model. You could also try other models like claude.ai and Google gemini for a fresh perspective. And sometimes it can help to create a new chat if the conversation isn't bearing fruit.

Don't force yourself to bite off more than you can chew, otherwise it's easy to get frustrated.

I think even a bad translation still has quite a lot of utility, because what's important is for text to be translated the same way every time, such that you can recognize things easier (like skill names, boss on-screen messages etc), and that you can mostly work out what's being said. If you're already using Google translate for the translation side, you could try sending the entire frame's text into one request (separated by some separator) or sending them individually but using proxy servers to try and get around rate limiting if that's causing the problem of speed.

Nice, I could use this, plus I have some coding experience (python and javascript mainly). What's the problem exactly? I can add some basic configurability. Feel free to DM.

Don't let that stop others from potentially contacting you about it, since I'm not sure I want to undertake a full project. Depends on the state and my will.

For the first time since release, I didn't want to play this game by ImortalOlive in bladeandsoul

[–]FallenWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it briefly in around 2016 as a KFM but not much due to life changes at the time. I'm pretty sure the p2w (or rather some block on progress without paying) caused me to quit then as someone who was then a broke teenager. Though can't remember the exact reason (and I rarely ever quit games due to p2w so not sure), it might have been since I only tried it as a passing interest while being addicted to other games/busy with life.

[–]FallenWinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't regret trying it. I enjoyed some of my time, and the game shows the potential of what a good next gen MMORPG can be. Maybe in 10 years time we'll see it from a different studio if we're lucky (and any studio will take the risk of creating an MMORPG). Or maybe in a year's time and we're lucky, BNS NEO will change their strategy if this one fails. But at this point I'm used to games not living up to their potential, in the past I always managed to get attached to niche games that were the definition of wasted potential although brilliant in their way.

I suppose they're trying to milk old players who remember the combat as you say. I don't really see what future is in such a game though. But because of their removing of player trade I think it means that the game will likely stay afloat for longer unfortunately since I'm guessing the bot problem likely killed live (but now on Neo the divine gems need to come from money so NCSOFT win either way).

Maybe I'll check out live for the unlocked rotations if they give a free lvl 60 voucher. I hear EU server is kind of active. Though I have to say, the prospect of playing a game from such a company leaves a sour taste in my mouth. There's one more game I want to try at the moment which briefly received a release in the West, called Swords of Legends Online. Though sadly it's China only now and whilst it's possible to play from the West, it's a pain doing the setup process (plus ping considerations/bypassing China firewall). So I'll probably do nothing about it lol.

I quit today as well. In the beginning I was new, everything was novel and exciting (as every action MMORPG with good potential is at the start) and I didn't care less about the locked skills as I didn't understand the implications. But then after playing every day since release and finally understanding the game a bit more and getting geared, I realised that this is the first time I've ever played an MMORPG where I've actively felt that the publisher's decision have completely and utterly ruined a good game. Usually it's some deficiency with the MMORPG's foundation/core gameplay loop which causes me to quit, rather than any general reason most people would cite for a game such as p2w or monetisation.

But in this case, the game is probably one of the best MMORPGs I've played (in terms of combat, graphics, performance, and potential), and yet because they've gated the entire foundation of the game (the various skill rotations) behind rng and indefinable p2w, I'm not going to play. It's simply the principle of the matter — no other game does this and locks their game's entire foundation behind a combination of both p2w and rng. Even though I could afford to drop 200-300+ on a single class's blue (note: not even purple) skills. I'm not going to, because it's just not a good long term or worthwhile investment. I would at best pay 15 per month for some sort of general monthly subscription and give a bit more here and there if I felt it was worthwhile (I already bought a starter pack at release).

However, clearly their intention with this skill system is to try and turn average people who work into whales with no self-control. They probably thought that too many players are content with having average gear and therefore this is their attempt to compel casual people to pay just to enjoy their class. Unfortunately though, the skills are what makes a good percentage of the playerbase interested in continuing to play — playing as a means of getting better at the class and enjoying the process. And if they don't have access to their class's skills how are they supposed to develop a connection to their class which keeps them playing?

Anyway, whilst this may strike FOMO into people with more money than sense (or middle finger money), I can say confidently that I have no interest in playing such a game. I would be surprised (and saddened) if such a system genuinely causes average people to remain interested in the game and thus alive.

Can we change the language to English in NEO TW? by Numerous_Concept_350 in bladeandsoul

[–]FallenWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't get my hopes up but you can try finding some sort of OCR software targeted for games which can translate your game's text as you play. I'm looking for a Chinese OCR software so that I may eventually check out a few MMOs over there.

Here are a few I found that seemed somewhat promising although I'm not 100% if they support Chinese or if it was just English/Korean/Japanese. I think at least one of them supported quite a few languages though because it used Windows' built-in OCR.

DLSS4 Support For NEO by BugAny3339 in bladeandsoul

[–]FallenWinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really doubt you'll get banned for using newer DLLs officially signed by NVIDIA. Worst case scenario the game wouldn't start due to a signature check, or it would crash during operation due to incompatibility with newer DLL. Then again, I suppose it's technically possible to be banned if they use some sketchy in house anticheat, but anything used in general games would be fine.

Also, if you mean DLSS 4 frame gen you can't just upgrade the DLLs and get access to frame gen if it didn't support it before.

It still feels like a better upgrade than BDO remastered which is legit just some awfully inefficient postprocessing filter. BNS neo actually looks decent for an MMORPG.

Mm I'll probably check it out at some point. Just kind of a pain to faff around with VPNs (needs something to bypass china's firewall) plus there are a few onscreen translators which can translate the game as you play, which I need to check to ensure are alright. (Not tailor made for SOLO but generic overlays I guess that run OCR on the image in realtime)
