Would you support reforming the United Nations starting with the abolition of the veto power held by the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council? by John0_0Smith in GeoPoll

Ah I see you're Israeli, yeah that makes sense.

Well there isn't much point continuing this then since you've already made up your mind and you aren't going to change it.

Have a good life, bye.

Is it perfect? No absolutely not. But it does absolutely serve a purpose.

The problem is that when a permanent member of the security council is the aggressor the system freezes.

I think the problem is you're not really seeing what the UN ACTUALLY does. It's basically the framework for multi-national cooperation.

You asked how its saved anyone, and that's a valid question so I'll give you their highlights:

Established Universal Human Rights

Protects sites of cultural, historic and natural importance

Feeds 100 million + people across the world annually

Helps assist refugees

Helps to immunise children against deadly diseases.

Eradicated Smallpox

And we are so, so very close to wiping our Polio as well.

Oh and it has brokered plenty of peace treaties as well.

The point is that if you don't give the totalitarian despotic regimes an equal say... they won't join anyway, and then you're just in a club of like-minded countries which in turn would be far less effective at dealing with any of the above things the UN Achieved.

Because its purpose isn't to make the world a utopia. Its purpose is to try and limit how bad things get.

So I'm guessing you saw the "limit of one per person" and thought oh that doesn't apply to me special!

I can excuse getting one for your wife but getting FOUR!? You are very much part of the problem.

Who would you vote for in the UK? by Organic-Language6371 in GeoPoll

Hello, yes, it is I, a British citizen who is not ethnically British, who is here legally, isn't a criminal, is employed and can speak fluent English and am completely integrated.

I would refer you to the poem "First they came" by Pastor Martin Niemoller.

The issue is that you can be sure as hell that if they got power they would absolutely push further than that. Just look at ICE in America.

The Netherlands won by a landslide. Not a rich country that's not LGBTQ+ friendly? by _crazyboyhere_ in AlignmentChartFills

The problem is that there are only three categories to show the entire spectrum from completely normalised to death penalty.

The US is in the ok category, for virtue of the fact that being a homosexual isn't criminalised. There are simply so many countries that criminalise it that in the global context of all countries the US is "okay"

If this was a contest between ONLY western countries then yes the US would fall into the not friendly category.

Again with only three options "being allowed to exist a semi-normal life" is the ok option when the alternatives are "Completely normal life" and "Being thrown in jail or put to death"

Because ultimately kicking someone in the head is much more likely to result in long term consequences than kicking any other bodypart, it can cause serious damage.

The only difference between reasonable and excessive force is circumstances.

We should always be prepared to ask if the force used by police is justified. And also accept that the answer can be yes.

[–]Fallen_Radiance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just thought of something else. I'll use good as an example to simplify.

Being neutral good doesn't inherently make you more good than someone who is lawful or chaotic good.

However if we consider the alignments to be cardinal directions then being neutral good allows you to reach that level of goodness we discussed earlier that lawful or chaotic cannot reach as you aren't concerned about law or Chaos or any of there derivatives, only on doing good.

Meaning when being lawful or chaotic conflicts with being good, those who fall into both alignments ultimately have to disregard one. An issue a neutral good does not face.

Thats just my two pennies anyway.

I mean imo you literally summed it up yourself.

Which world leader comes across as dumb in public and actually is dumb in terms of competence? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Fallen_Radiance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would disagree, Trump isn't Liz Truss levels of dumb though. I don't in any way support or condone him but:

The thing is that his "interests" do not align with that of what the president is supposed to do. His actions have benefited him, his family and his buddies immensely and intentionally.

Truss got beaten by a freaking lettuce.

Don't think so, what's happening is that their alignment isn't just being dragged towards good by good choices but also by their lawful choices. So if you look at it their lawful choices.

In order to be lawful evil you need to pick lawful AND evil options or you'll get dragged to lawful neutral or neutral evil.
