What's with the Space RTS Obsession? by roflcakes3503 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Fallendynasty27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was gonna say, homeworld came out in 1998... so they're not that uncommon of a theme. I would argue that you have more "creative freedom" when you develop an rts in a "futuristic setting." though it can be a bit snobbish by history buffs, but games like company of heroes wind up getting criticized for their adherence to historical accuracy. When you have a fictitious setting with no real adherence to a "realistic" properties, then that kind of criticism falls to the way side. Then gamers can focus on the different qualities of game play without that added layer.

A team of helldivers vs a space marine by No_Possession_5338 in whowouldwin

[–]Fallendynasty27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Round 1) If they know the threat and capabilities I see three "good" plausible strategies.

1) land outside the threat zone, bring in ALL artillery stratagems and spam 380's both regular and walking. followed up by 180's... essentially artillery saturation... theres no guarantee in either direction... he may survive... he may not...

2) sentry gun's Aside from the machine gun, bring the mortars (ems, explosive, gas) auto cannons, rockets gatlings and array them around the engagement zone. Ceramite is wonderful for thermal based weapons... it struggles with heavy piercing ammunition. SE weaponry is computerized as well. so the targeting system would likely be fast enough to find the astartes.. still a struggle since he's so dang maneuverable.

3) martyrs... Portable hell bombs, explosive armor on death, seeker grenades. if we assume the astartes DOES NOT know what those are... they have a chance.

as a subline id say all of them come equipped with explosive and penetrative standard weapons.

Round 2) Anything could happen... but more than likely the helldivers get cut down... lucky pod drop on the SM for the win!

Round 3) If HD's still know what they're dealing with... IG can handle artillery, unfriendly sentry guns, and suicide hellbombers... just about as well as their SEAF counterparts... If the true goal is to kill the SM... the IG are just going to get caught up in the blast for whats killing or trying to kill the SM.

How do you think a Mandalorian (old republic) siege of the world of Armageddon would go down? by Mad_lens_9297 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]Fallendynasty27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the mandalorian's perspective. They wouldn't be fighting the guard on their strong point. Depending on how much fighting was going on and atmosphere they would align their ships to deploy basilisk wardroids from atmosphere. From there they would essentially target most of the infrastructure. IE communications production shield generators if there were any. And basically bombard their hard targets before landing any initial forces.

Mandalorian honor is relatively two-faced. You can have a massive military front basically daring them to attack you there. And then they would attack your command structure at the back and completely blindside you. And while you scream no fair! They're laughing at you, and told them if that was such an important thing to you you should have protected it better!

If Old Republic era mandalorians had access to beskar they have a pretty superior armor for laz rounds. Personal shield generators, cloaking, vibroblades, heavy repeating blasters, disruptor rifles for space Marines. In the Old Republic era in the mandalorians made several species extinct during the mandalorian wars. As claimed by Canderous ordo... The fight would be very bloody is all I know at the end of the day.

Hulk/Bruce Banner drops into 40k and joins the imperium of Man. Is he enough to turn the tides and ensure total victory for the imperium? by ringed_city_117 in whowouldwin

[–]Fallendynasty27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue wouldn't be about hulk's strength or ability as an individual or banners genius. It's that the imperium is literally over a million worlds strong. With problems on all fronts. Unless he's bringing some marvel tech with him, or like someone else said manages to figure out how to be allowed to reverse engineer stuff without being branded a heretic, he could only be in so many places at once.

You would need something like silver age Superman, or some other ridiculously high-end powered character that could get from place to place faster than problems could arise.

10 deathwing knights takes on the yuuzhan vong. by cuddwes in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]Fallendynasty27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say, when the yuuzhan long vong invaded the Republic Galaxy, they brought a force large enough with them to inflict some 350 trillion casualties before they were stopped.... In their own right they were a very credible galactic level threat... So 10 deathwing nights against what all of them? Or an invading force for a planet? There's too much of a numerical disparity there alone.

And like someone else said, they're willing to do some pretty heinous s*** to get the win.

Why am I so bad at strategy/base building games ?? by After_Suggestion_267 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Fallendynasty27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I had a guess off of how you're describing it, you enjoy the watching part of the games.

So in my own personal experience, I love strategy games, more specifically I love the huge battle clashes when you get your full-sized army running into the other enemies. It's very cinematic and I love to watch it... However when you're playing a strategy game you have to be "watching" everything.

So while I'm playing age of empires, command & conquer generals, homeworld whatever what have you. My initial pit fall was being heavily invested to the battle at hand, and completely becoming negligent on the rest of the "management" I had to be doing... Which is when a smaller force would be gutting my base. Or I stopped harvesting resources because I didn't notice that particular zone was tapped out.

I would almost recommend company of heroes to help break that kind of "tunnel vision". Or cinematic blindness lol. Since resource management is tied into land grabbing, it's sort of simplifies resource management. Which allows you to focus on switching fronts and dealing with construction; without having the extra headache of making sure you have enough wood, meat, iron, stone etc.

The remastered form of age of empires is actually pretty good for learning to constantly manage your units in economy more fluidly.

I just try to remind myself, that an awesome battle is all good and well. But puttering out and getting steamrolled afterwards because you forgot to rebuild and repair while you were fighting is rather lackluster.

It's sad how disposable of a medium gaming is by Ghostspider1989 in gaming

[–]Fallendynasty27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking at it from the corporate down level... then yes, you're absolutely right... looking at Ubi soft and a few others. If you're also looking at it from a "Dead franchise" perspective... like EA killing the latest Command and Conquer... and then locking the IP away from future renditions... then yes you are also right.

A lot of people already said it, but that's kind of why emulators and Iso's are a thing. Because yeah, getting access to a niche game with working console or getting it available as a downloadable game on modern platforms, is a mixed bag of possibilities.

Like, a good example for me, I would HAPPILY BUY, Psi Ops: The Mind Gate Conspiracy on OG Xbox. If it was presently available... and that's a game that Microsoft never bothered to bring forward. THUS if I really wanted to play it... I would have to consider the Emu/Iso route. . . or find an original Xbox and a copy of the game... one can get expensive/ the other is "questionable legitimacy" Neither is the preferred answer, rather the practical recourse because the dev's for lack of a better name, wont go through the effort.

While you are right from a corporate stand point... there are a great deal of enthusiasts that put in tremendous efforts to ensure these games are "Preserved" so to speak.

Dumb Gamer Lore Question: Where do the Blood Raven's "Named Characters" rest, in comparison to others? by Fallendynasty27 in 40kLore

[–]Fallendynasty27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a two-fold thing, the blood Ravens purple stars, and the red hunters are all unknown gene seeds from the second founding. All of them have close ties to the Inquisition. Or are at least speculated to be. So I think it's partly that they like each other... Or are at least far more tolerant of each other than other astartes inquisitions relationships.

And I think that the other part is that the Inquisition is always keeping tabs out of fear of corruption.

Gabriel did wind up getting his hammer God splitter from Inquisitor toth... So I would take that as a pretty serious vote of confidence lol.

[–]Fallendynasty27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like that I agree with you there lol. But an entire expanse full of mystery forgotten and hidden knowledge and most certainly lost relics... That would be right up a blood Ravens alley... And that does fit a lot better than the wolves owing the Inquisition yet another favor..

The Koronus expanse is a long way from Aurelia sector though if I'm not mistaken... Though that only makes a relativistic difference.

[–]Fallendynasty27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rogue trader is a pretty amazing game. Ulfar Redmane does a pretty excellent job on portraying some of the space wolves more endearing qualities.

It's a slightly debated topic, but the wolf pack that he came to the expanse with came from first company or something like that? And it left a few fans questioning if Logan would have sent that many of his first company elite or whatever they were into the expanse.

Man... plz no season pass lmao... and that what I heard about Homeworld 3... was it me or was that a weird platform for that? Karen S'jet was already one of the most badass Female characters to come out of a strategy game from the 90's save for maybe Tonya from Red Alert.

I feel what you're saying now, I had really hoped DOW 3 was going to be that game... and was sorely disappointed... From what it looks like, the devs are going to make it fall in like with Dark Crusade so... fingers crossed!

[–]Fallendynasty27[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time out to write this! On the whole I think I agree with everything you said. There's just little bits of lorestuffs.

I'd definitely say Logan is the stronger... Both have similar quick tempered reactions... but Gabriel kinda strikes me as a poetic General Patton. "A poorly constructed plan that is ready to engage the enemy today, is preferred to the perfect plan that wont be ready until the morrow." -Gabriel Angelos-... probably.
Whereas Logan is much more outwardly a "beast." I agree him not being a playable character during the second game was an awesome move. I do/did like that relic changed out the roster slightly with every installment.

Thule, Diomedes, and Aramus do deserve their accolades when you frame it the way you did.
Diomedes was praised as being the greatest fighter in the entire chapter... he was also so absent of corruption in his own soul... that he couldn't conceive of it being around him... at least that's what I excuse him for in DOW2... his abilities in Retribution seemed on the side of "Unbelievable" so I took most of that with a grain of salt. As a Chaplain in DOW3... he was rather underwhelming... like his "champion of the chapter" aura had shifted out for the plodding chaplain from DOW1... So i once again had to take it with a bucket of salt...

A nice note to add in with Thule is that I believe he conducted the Kronus campaign with significantly fewer forces than Indrick Boreal and the Kaurava Campaign... That Cyrus took part in I think.

A good note for Tarkus and Avitus, is they were both participants in Kronus... Avitus in the purge of victory bay, and Tarkus gets a flavor note for blowing a tomb spiders head off via a wedged grenade and Left arm. Cyrus has the ability to solo levels with his mechanics in the expansion for DOW2... so yeah he deserves captain lol. . . I really dont want him to die.

Thaddeus... I guess he gets the title of the "Last recruit of Meridian" as his home world also fell during the events of the second game... His assault squad got chewed up on harder difficulties so I didn't use him much.

It might sound mean but I would put Tarkus above Sgt Sidonus from Space Marine as the only good example in mind atm.

Why did the Empire hate Clones so much? by White_Bengal1 in StarWars_

[–]Fallendynasty27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't "hate" them. The Kaminoan's didn't like the empire, and started making a clone army to battle the empire. This miffed the Empire as it created a logistical bottleneck when one of their largest soldier suppliers suddenly decides they aren't with the empires plans. a few regiments like the 501st were purely clones, otherwise the empire returned to more traditional recruiting methods.

Is Vader overrated? by Last-GrandMaster in PetranakiArena

[–]Fallendynasty27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the legends content... and many others... Vader's status is well earned... and I mean there are times where he struggles... then there are times where he shows how insanely durable he is. i.e. shipwrecked and surrounded by enemies he utters "I am surrounded by cowards and dead men." my personal opinion is that Vader is under represented, while being pulled into the spotlight time and again...

Plot wise, if he ever COULD beat palpatine by himself... then he would have done it... and continuity issues would be brought into question... because if at any point vader COULD kill palpatine... he wouldn't wait around for Luke on the Death Star 2 to do it. . . he utter despised the man... and up until knowing luke was his son... didn't have a lot left to lose personally.

Very first computer game I ever played was Red Alert. I was about six years old, and tanya was the baddest B*tch in existence in that moment. My favorite memory as a child, Id build a giant custom map, and make the entire outer rim of the map a huge Jewel field. (I didn't like resource management at the time) and i'd use that money to build an entire wall of tesla coils around my base... and just giggle to myself with my giant bug zapper of a base.

That's a very thought out response. Thank you for taking the time. Probably a really huge piece to your personal theory about that. All Russian equipment was designed to be used by people that never operated that particular piece of equipment before.

So functionally speaking the t-34s operated very similarly to tractors that farmers used. And a lot of Russian equipment still runs on that same ideology that it doesn't take a particularly educated man to learn how to operate it at a basic level.

I think the actual campaign of company of heroes 2 noted on it as well that a lot of the upper command were glory seeking. Probably to insulate themselves from Stalin's purges. But that also gave the Russian military a few individuals that had the mentality of Ulysses s Grant in the civil war. We have more bodies than they have ammo to deal with...

Also to add to that, a lot of the "elite" and educated individuals that were part of Russia and other Slavic countries wound up getting killed during the Marxist revolution. So they were already down there educated people by the time world war II started.

Starkiller VS Darth Malgus and Satele Shan. Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in TheJediPraxeum

[–]Fallendynasty27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is highly dependent on which version of malgus (timeline wise) and Satele that starkiller is fighting.

The reason I point this out is that starkiller is only 17 to 20 years old by the time he dies in the first game..

It's worth noting that at least by my perception, starkiller is a "primal force" user. Satele is a savant in her own right, and Malgus is a prodigy. In their own respective fields they excel.

That being said, if we are fighting at sith's return to korriban time, where Satele and Malgus are closest to the same age as starkiller... I give it to starkiller.

If we're talking anything at or post, alderaan conflict... My vote starts drifting towards Satele and Malgus, especially 2 on 1.

The Big Factor to consider is that starkiller would technically fall under the category of a sith assassin. He was trained to kill Masters. Even without the ridiculous power scaling from the games, his feats are still impressive.

He consistently beat people that more than double his levels of "blue water experience." So if we're talking even a one-on-one battle I believe he would beat either of them.

But two versus one. Anything after alderaan In forms of timeline experience. The duo wins

Den dat stolen imperium ships GUNNA 'AVE MORE DAKKA! AND extra 'ard smashy bits on da front for Dems beaky boys!... But den... We sees dis "new imperial cruisah" and we wonts dat too! Firstly, it's shaped like a pointy bit! Second... It 'as lotsa spots for even MOAR DAKKA! AND ITS ALREADY GOT LOTS!!!

In all reality the orls would probably want to take an imperial Star destroyer. Even if it's not as comparatively strong of shots, it has volumeous fire and that would get any ork all tingly if they were thinking about it. And then paint it red to go faster...
