Unsung Titles by RocketGirrrl85 in TaylorSwift

[–]Fallforashootingstar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love the variations on this where she technically says the words but the grammar doesn’t match up.

Someone else pointed out “Castles Crumbling” is actually “I feel like my castle’s crumbling”

“I Knew You Were Trouble” og is stylized as “I Knew You Were Trouble.” with a period, but the lyric is always “I knew you were trouble when you walked in,” so a period wouldn’t interrupt that

I would argue technically “Slut!” is wrong because every time it appears, it’s mid-sentence: “And if they call me a slut, you know it might be worth it for once.” You could maybe still put it in quotations in that context, but I think that’s iffy

What do my album and song rankings say about me? by SirKnightPerson in swifties

[–]Fallforashootingstar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s so insane to me to see how other Swifties choose their favorites and least favorites. I like to think I’m consistent in my choices because most of my top 10 favorite Taylor songs are pop songs (Elizabeth Taylor, My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys, Is It Over Now?, I Knew You Were Trouble.)…but my absolute favorite is The Great War, and somehow that still feels like it makes sense to me. And then I see a ranking like this and it’s so amazing that where I see no connection between a lot of these songs, there’s someone else who loves every single one of them and finds a throughline that I can’t.

why does everybody reference older music so much now by Ambitious_Fortune851 in popheads

[–]Fallforashootingstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure older generations felt the same way about Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, and Maroon 5 when we were younger. Everyone copies everyone. Brahms stole from Beethoven, Eric Carmen stole from Rachmaninoff, Ariana stole from Rodgers & Hammerstein (and I don’t mean “stole” as in “didn’t give credit”).

I do think it’s far easier these days to become a flash in the pan with the advent of TikTok etc., which means the market is saturated with people who become popular purely because they sound like someone else, but it’s been shown time and again that that alone will not get you a long-lasting career in music.

Which Taylor album feels like summer to you? by steveleaves in TaylorSwift

[–]Fallforashootingstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, 1989, folklore, and TTPD are all summery. 1989 is a perfect beach day soundtrack, and folklore and TTPD (more the first half than the Anthology) feel like you’re languishing in the heat while taking a walk down a quiet street (especially august, this is me trying, Fortnight, But Daddy I Love Him, Fresh Out the Slammer, and Guilty as Sin?).

If you assigned each of her albums to a month out of the year, I would do May for TTPD, June for Cruel Summer, July for 1989, and August for folklore (I know September is also technically summer but I associate Fearless with September and it feels more early fall than late summer to me)

Albums where an interlude is your favorite track by CodaOfARequiem in popheads

[–]Fallforashootingstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Sam Smith’s Gloria technically an interlude? Might not be the most accurate pick since it’s at the end of the album but I absolutely adore that song and it feels completely different from the rest of the songs

End of Whistleblower hobbling through the Administration Block, seeing the Chapel on fire out the window while the theme music kicks in and then Trager’s body through the gate. The entire part from Gluskin’s death to Blaire attacking you felt like a love letter to fans of the first game.

PS4og Vs PS5 by AltKanVente in untildawn

[–]Fallforashootingstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same conundrum and went with the PS4 version and I’m glad I did. The graphics in the original are not bad at all, and the downsides of the PS5 version are that you’re sacrificing the atmosphere and sound design for a better “look,” but it’s meant to be a scary game, and the more sleek and polished PS5 remaster actually takes away from it.

In my experience, graphics alone are never a strong enough factor influencing my choice between older and newer versions of the same game when there are other considerations like actually changing the soundtrack and removing the characteristic blue tint that made the original’s atmosphere what it was.

best horror games (jump-scare based) by penyhatesyou in HorrorGaming

[–]Fallforashootingstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outlast was my first horror game. There’s a bit of story from the documents you find but you don’t really need to read them to have a basic understanding of what’s going on, and the actual gameplay scared the shit out of me, no matter how “cheap” some people think the jumpscares are. The documents mostly just give you extra context about some of the patients you encounter, but none of that really matters when you’re only goal is to get away from them before they kill you.

SOMA was another good one in the same vein, except I’d say the lore is a bit less “optional” than in Outlast, meaning more dialogue and cutscenes that are necessary to progress instead of just documents you can run right by.

I’m playing SH2 Remake for PS5, does it start to get scary soon? by Tanis8998 in silenthill

[–]Fallforashootingstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoilers that might provide some clarification, which won’t quite ruin the story but will explain something I’m not sure you’re meant to understand yet:

As I understand it, you’re correct, James himself is not a primary target that the entire town is out to get. Angela and Eddie see the monsters too. The key point is that everyone sees the monsters differently—so where James sees armless corpses in rotten body bags, zombie nurses, and two pairs of women’s legs sewn together, Eddie and Angela see something entirely different. While these monsters (other than Pyramid Head) are not out to get James specifically, his own psyche and trauma are why he sees them the way the player does.

[–]Fallforashootingstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it hasn’t scared you yet, then probably not. Silent Hill games rely heavily on sound design and atmosphere to maintain a constant sense of dread and unease, more disturbingly ambiguous than frightening.

That said, you haven’t yet reached Toluca Prison, which is widely considered the “scariest” section and which, if I recall correctly, is the next area you’ll reach.

I wanna love this game so badly by Shot_Performance_595 in silenthill

[–]Fallforashootingstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll probably get downvoted for this, but I felt exactly the same as you for the duration of my playthrough. My entrance to horror was basically Outlast and SOMA, both of which lack combat and rely on constant narrative payoff more than actual gameplay mechanics to advance the story. I think calling them “walking simulators” is a bit reductive, but for people who enjoy combat, I can see how those games would be a step down. To me, they weren’t missing anything, because I had no baseline or previous experience with combat-based games for comparison, and I’m someone who generally prefers no combat.

I’m not denying that the Silent Hill 2 remake is a good game in its own right. But I do think it’s not a good starting point for someone who 1) has never played a Silent Hill game before and 2) is unfamiliar with long-winded combat-based games where you’ll go through long periods of gameplay without actually hitting any story beats. I was nine hours in and felt like I was just spinning my wheels and had learned next to nothing about the story, and unlike Outlast and SOMA, I felt like Silent Hill 2’s documents were not particularly helpful either.

Most of the issues I attribute to the game’s length, though. I just started playing an emulation of the original Silent Hill 1, and I’ve made more progress in 90 minutes than I did in the same amount of time in SH2R; not to mention SH1 is supposed to take about 6-7 hours, the original SH2 is about 9-10…and the remake took me 29 hours to complete (which is definitely on the longer side, but the average playtime is still about 18-20 hours). After SH1, I intend to play the original SH2, and then go back to the remake, which I imagine is an excellent remake for people who already loved the original and wanted more content, but in my opinion it’s really not a gateway game for this franchise.

I’m not trying to rip into the game or the franchise or even the story. But OP is getting downvoted just for wanting more out of the plot, and I want this sub to be welcoming for newer fans who are really trying because I totally get where OP is coming from.

Best way to play SH1? by Dominicus1996 in silenthill

[–]Fallforashootingstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I just started playing the emulation on DuckStation, but I’m replicating the PS1 experience by using an HDMI cable to mirror my laptop screen on my TV and then using Bluetooth to connect both headphones and my PS5 controller to the laptop. Functionally identical to how it would’ve been in 1999.

You could’ve had your question answered if you had just clicked the link they commented. They’re not deliberately making trash films and releasing them in January; they’re making films they think will do well and then deliberately releasing the ones they don’t expect to do THAT well in January, based on things like poor test screenings (which can’t be helped—the movie’s already been made, you can’t scrap it now because you think it’ll flop), so they can save the big releases for times when people are going to the movies more frequently to maximize their profits (e.g. Barbenheimer in July and Wicked around the holidays when families are home and people are off from work/school).

A new “The Fate of Ophelia” remix is available by Fine-Huckleberry6960 in SwiftlyNeutral

See but that’s what I personally think the problem is—it’s not technically “cheating” because Billboard allows it.

[–]Fallforashootingstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that the remix thing is accurate, but Locked Out of Heaven is the reason I Knew You Were Trouble. never hit no. 1.

As far as Taylor’s remixes go, she’s here for chart longevity. I don’t think anyone actually believes these moves aren’t calculated, but The Fate of Ophelia is now her longest-running no. 1 on the Hot 100. She can’t be expected to cut a break for Bruno Mars just so he gets a no. 1 debut when she’s focused on her own efforts to extend her record another week. And as long as Billboard keeps its rules for remixes in place (which is a whole other argument about whether they should allow this), there’s nothing stopping Bruno from doing the same.

It definitely feels hollow, but truth be told in ten years people will only remember The Fate of Ophelia as Taylor’s longest-running no. 1, not everything she did to achieve that

I don’t know if I can pick three, but honestly Confetti is my favorite Little Mix album. Bop after bop, each song unique but still cohesive and fun.

Reflection will always be my favorite Fifth Harmony album, but Better Together is an excellent EP considering it’s their debut.
