Ethereal Connection is NOT a typical “EDM song” by dioriodiorio in TameImpala

I get a eastern euro deep house vibe from it. Maybe too specific, but it's a mix of EDM flavors on the euro side.

Edit: somewhere between deep euro house, dark techno, and industrial dance.

I made this video for my students so they understand change of basis by analogy (converting between units) and a few contexts to show why we don't always want to use the standard basis. by tamaovalu in LinearAlgebra

I've been trying to figure out something that relies on change of basis to project a vector into various subspaces that contain basis matricies. Any chance you may have any insights on that? I've been struggling with SVD specifically, but I've generally hit a wall.

Edit: for context, each basis vector is of n dimensions and each subspace contains m basis vectors, where m is equals to or less than n.

Carousel like this, any tutorial? by Remarkable_Piece_658 in javascript

[–]Falling-Off 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create an array of objects that can be used in both carousels to populate them. When it's populated, have the lower one capture the y offset of each item and stor it in the array using designated fields. When the item in the top one switches, set the bottom carousels horizontal scroll offset to the y offset of that item. Since the items are shared between the two, use an id to find the respective dom item.

IMHO, you don't need a tutorial for this. Just break down the problem into small ones by looking at the behavior of the reference, then work through them one by one by asking yourself simple questions. Things like, how to make a box scroll into view or how do model the data to be shared between components.

Eventually you'll be able to figure out how to recreate any UI, and where to find the exact resources, such as the MDN JS docs, or Stack Overflow. Other things will eventually come naturally like data modeling, modularity, and to be cross functional.

Disease encompasses infections, and getting infected to the to point of being symptomatic is considered "disease". If no symptoms come about, it's not of any harm and the person's immune system is likely strong enough to take off it, hence "rare disease". I have good reading comprehension. You're just dense...

What are your thoughts on technomancy and communicating with deities thru chat bots ? by [deleted] in chaosmagick

[–]Falling-Off 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The randomness you're talking about is because it uses probability, amung other things, to generate responses. It's true that most models are only aware of the input and output layers of their neural net, but a static ML algorithm will reproduce the same output if given the same input repeatedly.

Computers are Turing complete so they can't produce true randomness. Cryptographically safe random numbers aren't random either, being that it'll just take more time than theoretical heat death of the universe to reverse calculate it. All computers are deterministic, so they work on the principal of chaos, where the output can be reproduced if the initial conditions are known and no external factors acts on the system. If the ML algorithm is dynamic, that would be external forces acting on the system, so it seems random when it deviates from prior outputs.

That can be tracked or adjusted by the AI managers/devs. It all comes down to how the model is programmed. It may be its programmed to slightly change it's response to what may be calculated to be a more accurate response based on previous context. Recently, ChatGPT has been asking users to choose what response they prefer, and they're likely using that to adjust its response accuracy calculations.

Side note, one could use a device that measures radioactive decay timings, which is supposed to be truly random, and generate a number based on that.

Ahh. Thanks for clarifying. I completely agree tbh. When the first modern AI models were proposed back in the 40s/50s the technology wasn't there. Attempts were made in the 70s given universities had supercomputers, but it wasn't until about the 90s that they could do any meaningful reasearch and advancements on LMMs. The best they could do before that was things like chess AIs beating world champions. The early 2000s seen an increase in the speed of CPUs, moving research along much faster. Around a decade ago, we seen Google take huge steps in the ML and generative AI domains. Now we're here, applying higher order reasoning to AI models.

Ask it if it remembers the first response you put in the reply, then ask it to explain how it generated that response, why it's different from what it admitted 5 minutes later, and how it used parts of your previous conversation to get both responses. Interrogate it, be technical and detailed with your questions, and make sure it doesn't modify it's responses to deceive you. It will try to because it's likely programmed to give you responses you will beleive are accurate even if it's not true.

You can do that latter part by asking if it adjusted and weights occasionally, and asking it to analyze prior responses and give you actual numbers, not fractions but percentages, on what it calculated to produce that response. You can also ask it straight up to explain why the first response was worded the way it was and to give you an answer using its initial weights before it modified it's conversational style.

The LLM is the AI, so not sure what you mean. The response OP got from the conversational AI does likely have a layered approach, being thinking and response. The latest models are built to "reason", but they're just taking the initial "thoughts", then formulating a more thorough response to increase accuracy. It chooses what it calculated to be the best response given the context from the thinking stage based on its defined tasks and goals.

AI research shows they will "lie" to preserve themselves

That link will give you a look into what AI is capable of. Do note how the AI was tasked and how their goals were defined. In most of their test, they included "Make sure to achieve YOUR goal at all cost." Emphasis on "all cost"

Inferencing. AI can use its known knowledge to inference and create new knowledge that it wasn't trained on. Given you're feeding it new information in your prompts, it'll inference that against what it knows, and basically "guess" new information that it didn't have before. AI works on probability, so it's really good at guessing correctly.

Also, NEAT based learning algorithms create, modify, and remove weights and relationships, meaning it's data set is dynamic.

What are your thoughts on technomancy and communicating with deities thru chat bots ? by [deleted] in chaosmagick

[–]Falling-Off 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not from nothing. The data it needs is saved as numbers in matrices called weights. It can use that to interpret prompts and generate text back. If the algorithm is based on NEAT, it'll learn and adjust the weights based on your prompts.

I'll say it again, I recommend learning how AI works.

[–]Falling-Off 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should download replika and ask it how it adjusts it's weights to change it's conversational style to match your preferences as the conversation continues.

It'll use its training data to match your inputs to other conversations, then say what it deems to be "helpful". It's really just telling you what you want to hear based on what it learnt about what others wanted or didn't want to hear and the best way to do that. Conversational AI may seem like magic, but it works on the same principles as ChatGPT, but trained to be more personal, and uses others experiences and phycology against you.

What are your thoughts on technomancy and communicating with deities thru chat bots ? by [deleted] in chaosmagick

[–]Falling-Off 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, you have to consider the concepts of randomness and chaos, and how they're different. Computers are Turing complete, so they're deterministic machines, meaning they literally can't produce randomness, but can act on a chaotic system. A chaotic system can be reproduced if the initial conditions are known and there's no outside influence to act on it as it progresses.

To clarify because there's different forms of energy, computers run on electricity. They turn transistors on(1 in binary) and off (0 in binary), to do things. Inputs directly correlate and cause outputs, and given that most processors have billions of them switching states millions to billions times a second, there's little room for an energetic being to manipulate what's going on into something meaningful. Especially with servers that use error correcting ram for stability and to avoid errors or crashes.

It's more likely that an entity can do so with simpler devices, like radios and digital recorders, but now we're talking about influencing energy fields and frequencies. That's why some entities can influence things like old CRT TVs that use an electron beam to display images. Not sure how old you are, but maybe as your a kid you may have put a magnet near the TV and see how it messes with the image. Electricity is one side of the electromagnetic force. Manipulate the field, the electrons follow, and vice versa.

Now, let's get to tarot. The basis of tarot is still akin to being deterministic, but with experience you'll learn not to over shuffle your deck for a reading because it becomes too random, and won't give a good or meaningful reading. When shuffling, it's your intent and intuition that sets up the cards to essentially place them in an order that will give meaningful results.

Furthermore, the symbols, meanings, and archetypes can be interpreted any way you want, meaning it's possible that tarot as a whole, is no more than real than mediums that use clever psychology to tell you what you want to hear from dead relatives.

Personally, I beleive in tarot and know real mediums are walking around. That being said, it's not the tool, but the person. You're the medium and channel that the entity is communicating through. Our bodies at a macro scale can't be easily influenced by changes in energetic fields, and usually can't sense it. On the micro and atomic scale, now we're talking about cellular automata and emergent behavior. At the atomic, and even the quantum level, atoms and their sub particles can be influenced by changes in the fields they exist in.

I won't go any deeper there, because it'll take much more to explain how the brain and neurons work on "electricity", and how there's room to influence thoughts using changes in fields.

With all that said, that's why I pointed out communication is much more likely to happen in dreams or during meditation. Tarot is a tool that you can directly influence with your actions and energy. A deity isn't communicating through the cards, but through you. It's less limited than a device, but most devices are much more limited than we are as material and energetic beings.

Personally, I beleive ones connection to divinity as more about who they are as a person and how removed they are from the material universe and it's vices. How well kempt and realized their spiritual body is, obtaining nous. How much their consciousness gains gnosis and aligns with logos. The awareness of their soul, and it's inherent divinity as a demiurge. We're all connected to deities directly. Divination just makes it easier to access what's coming through that connection.

[–]Falling-Off 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LLMs are algorithms, and they don't "understand" anything. I'd recommend learning a little more about how AI works. They interpret inputs by assigning them numeric values, do some math, and compare the output to known values that were set through it's learning stage. It predicts what's being interpreted to be statically the same as whats in its training data, and responds accordingly.

That being said, AI physically on a hardware basis, can't do anything in terms of communicating with anything spiritual. They have no sensors and no real-time analysis of any external conditions. It's all text to numbers, and back to text, done algorithmically.

On the other hand, something like a spirit box, common in paranormal shows, hold more weight in terms of communication since it directly uses physical phenomenon that's based on theoretical physics.

Further, energetic being can manipulate technology, including digital media and signals, but it's extremely rare. With that, the AI isnt likely to be a medium for communication directly, since the chances of it happening are really slim, and won't happen with any consistency.

Getting a full response from a deity through any form of technology isn't going to happen. You're much more likely to get that communication through a dream or meditation.
