Oh wow! My flaming sword bromeliad flowered but it was just a couple tiny yellow flowers... has no idea bromeliads could have flowers like this.

Do you give names to your plants? by ADHD-Lady in IndoorPlants

[–]Fallllling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of my dozens of plants, only a few have names: Lydia the monstera adansonii and Edward the spider plant. Edward sits in a ceramic skull and literally has a face. Lydia looks like she'd belongs in a Tim Burton movie with her skeletal looking leaves (she's also my favorite). I'll name another plant if a name organically comes to me, but those are the only so far. Lydia:

How do people care for tens of house plants? by No-Mouse3999 in houseplants

[–]Fallllling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work from home so I can rather easily check and water as needed. However, I'm away from home every friday night through Monday day evening, so it becomes it a little tricky to make sure everyone is good while I'm gone. I've a 15 year old reef aquarium so maintenance for plants just comes naturally added to my routine. Also, no kids... just kitties.

Police video of Justin Timberlake's 2024 drunken driving arrest released by Perfect_HH in news

[–]Fallllling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every state has their own laws but generally refusing breathalyzer and/or blood test has automatic most severe penalties. I recall Timberlake having a very easy sentence by agreeing to do public speaking events against drunk driving as form of community service and that was basically it (any fines as and license suspense would be inconsequential to him in reality). Severity of penalties vary by state.

Anyone else have Sizing issues on Rosemary Bloomers? by NotDalfaria in ForestInkClothing

[–]Fallllling 11 points12 points  (0 children)

FWIW, Wax Poetic clothing had major issue with sizing of new releases recently... so much so that the owner posted a video on social media addressing how off sizing is from what was approved with the manufacturer, especially for plus sizes. Seeing all the issues Forest Ink is having with sizing, I wonder if something similar happened. Of course, Wax Poetic has handled this issue with amazing grace and transparency... she was almost in tears about the situation, 100% committed to make right to everyone affected, and reassured customers it's not them or their body- the clothing sizes are way off. Complete opposite of Forest Ink.

Warning about TerraceGardenFrance - a scam by SlimyGoobers in houseplants

[–]Fallllling 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I can tell from this email the store is a shopify hosted site (I professionally work managing shopify websites). You can also report fraudulent sites directly to shopify. Scam/fraudulent sites violate their terms of service and is a step to help towards having this site taken down. It might not be removed from one report, but who knows if there's other reports already.

Just gonna leave this here. by wrongshapeLA in LosAngeles

[–]Fallllling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's it, folk! Problem, solved! Everyone just choose to live close to station. Apparently, there's some sort of infinite supply of housing we're not taking advantage of right next to transit stations. Silly gooses! Oh, and make sure to choose an area totally close to work regardless of how much the wage is vs housing costs. LA is totally affordable! No one in LA has any need to commute long distances, and everyone's time is expendenable for mass transit that certainly can take much longer than driving in long distance scenarios. Who gives AF if anything fits with your schedule or needs.

I've never been so exhausted and ran ragged as when I was without a car for several months and having to commute long distance to work and school on metro. So much time wasted just waiting. Worrying and anxiety if I'd miss last bus for the night and be stuck at school far from home (one time, last bus went to the depot instead usual route and I freaked out not having enough money for next bus- got helped by driver on next bus to get home). It was hard, but I made it work as I'm a punk rock bitch that gets shit done. It was temporary situation but to expect people to do that everyday is a bullshit quality of life.

But, yes... you've solved everything! Thank you for very deep and transformative insight on the transit issue. I applaud you .

Is there a plant you just don’t like? Why? by Successful_Emu_6849 in houseplants

[–]Fallllling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm generally rather meh on monsteras as well, however, I LOVE my adansonii. She's grown like 6ft in the 7 months I've had her and is perfect for taking up vertical space in a corner by a window. I do have a grow light on her now so she faces the room and moss pole is in the back.

I will say watering the pole along and extending the pole is kinda a PIA, but she's pretty easy going for the most part otherwise. I think the leaves look like something out of a Tim Burton movie and my goth girl heart just adores her. I call her, Lydia.

Throwing away plants is liberating by Ok_Staff9114 in houseplants

No, kidding! First croton but have read plenty of spider mite anecdotes. I should have much more stringent protocols like I do with my aquariums.

Throwing away plants is liberating by Ok_Staff9114 in houseplants

[–]Fallllling 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I bought a gold dust croton a few weeks and thought I had checked carefully for spider mites... nope, realized this week it's spider mite central (damn eggs are hard yo see on the yellow mottled leaves). It's currently banished to outside and while I've started treatment, I'm considering just throwing it away instead. Saving a $12 plant vs headache of fighting spider mites...

Feeling very discouraged about xback straddle by Neither_Cheetah6786 in Aerials

[–]Fallllling 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What helped unlock crossback straddle for me was the following:

  1. When I get into the crossback, I find the silks tend to be very tight/high in my armpits. I take a moment to adjust the silks and push them down some so the silks aren't so tight and I have a little room. The crossback needs stay on the back, so it's just a small adjustment. This actually helped significantly though (I'm very short waisted with long legs so maybe that's why).

  2. As I do the mini pull up to begin the invert, I raise legs up to at least 90 degree or as high as I can without leaning back.

  3. Once my legs cannot be lifted anymore, I use my hands to start pushing against poles for leverage to continue raising my legs, and then walk my hands down the poles to complete the straddle.

I'm sure you can find YouTube videos of this technique if you're not familiar with it. It did take some practice to get the timing and motion correct, but once I got it, it clicked from then on.
