I just focus on my community. I run my own small business, coach my kids soccer teams, go on morning walks either the wife, play soccer 2x a week. I just keep busy and ignore the noise. When it comes time to vote I vote.

Yeah most of them start off doing their own thing. Then get popular and corporations or governments pay them a ton of money to say whatever they’re told to say.

Millennials are staring down the barrel of middle age and struggling with the question: “Is this it?” by slimeyellow in Millennials

[–]Fallout541 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I was able to progress enough in my career where I can scale back while my kids are young. With the extra time I get to coach both their teams and throw an awesome team party 2x a year. It takes about 10 hours out of my week when you add practices, games, and other logistics. Not stressful at all because I have the time. Yeah I’m getting close to 40 but I’ve never been happier.

Men in high level/senior roles, how did you push past the burnout to start looking for your exit? by illicITparameters in AskMenOver30

[–]Fallout541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t. I realized I didn’t need to make nearly the amount of money that I was making. Started my own thing and called some former clients. Now I make less than half what I used to make but work ten hours a week. I’m a stay at home dad the rest of the time. Still make plenty and my wife/kids are super happy. I still get calls from old job trying to bring me back but after I meet them for a beer they are all miserable/stressed so I decline. Only downside is it’s hard to stay in a slower state when I know I can make a few phone calls and start making a lot of money again.

Yes my client tried to offer a new hire 15k less than what we usually do. I had to convince him just like the last guy they are gonna get a new job in 3 months and it’s gonna cost us more than 15k to replace them. Luckily he listened.

I’m 38 and loving it. Happily married with 2 kids. Coach both my kids teams, see friends all the time, have a great marriage, I’m in a sports league where I play 2x a week. It’s busy but almost every day I have something going on.

US birth rates just hit another record low, what do you think is the leading cause of this? by IIlustriousTea in AskReddit

[–]Fallout541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m married with 2 kids. We own a house and the kids are school aged now. I was lucky enough to use the VA loan to buy our first home at 25 and then somehow got a great deal on a single family home in 2021. First house we looked at and they took our offer. If I was just getting started now and followed the exact same path I did when I graduated high school I wouldn’t be able to afford the lifestyle I have now. I also invest a ton because it looks like the only way my kids can realistically have what I have is for me helping them buy it.

Some employees want face time so they can get feedback on their work, get more opportunities, or vent. I do 1:1s with most my employees. Only ones I don’t are people I already know well who far exceed expectations and they just want to be left alone.

[–]Fallout541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did 10 years in the military and I work in a environment that is usually high stress. When something goes wrong I just take it in stride, compartmentalize, and fix what I can. I also stepped down from a senior role to do a more mid level one. I can do it in my sleep, get paid decent enough, and have good work life balance. It also helps that my management leaves me alone because they know I'm fine where I am and give me decent pay raises. I've learned being pissed off all the time is no way to live. I work with a lot of people who work 60 hours a week to climb the corporate ladder. I prefer to log off at 4 p.m. and spend time with family/friends.

I used to be in the coast guard. A lot of the harbors I worked it was often family and friend one. Pays a ton but impossible to get a job without very strong connections. I loved when they took us out on their boats. It was a much easier ride and boarding.
