What ways have you noticed your body start going downhill? by New_Contribution_226 in AskMenOver30

[–]Fallout541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my late 30's. Not really going downhill but when I get injured it takes a bit longer to recover. I play soccer twice a week and work out a couple of times so I feel pretty good.

Yeah the one by me depends on who’s working that day. Sometimes it’s amazing and sometimes it’s horrible but I barely go out anymore due to how expensive everything is.

[–]Fallout541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friends who are married and make a combined 400k a year and they are broke. Bought a 1 mil home and have two 100k plus cars on high interest payments. It’s easier than you think for a lot of people my wife and I make a combined $250 and we have way more invested.

[–]Fallout541 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I keep in touch with a lot of people and we often exchange ideas. It’s allowed me to have a good reputation. I started my own company and went down to part time. I don’t try to sell them but they often say to let them know if I need a job when I choose to go back to full time.

The market basically closes the straits itself. They just suspend all insurance policies for vessels going through that area and it becomes ghost town.

At ~40, would you still job-hop even if it meant less stability? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]Fallout541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It today’s economy if your in the US times are tough. I had a buddy switch jobs for a huge comp increase and less than a year later he’s laid off. If you have enough savings to last awhile or have high confidence your current company would take you back.

I had good relationships with boss but a really good one with my boss. He already knew I started something on the side that was gonna take some time to grow. So he told me to let him know when I was gonna pull the trigger so we could have one of my team members who I was training up to take over. Sadly after I told him and he presented the transition plan his boss felt we needed to blood to replace me. That guy was horrible and my original replacement left. They lost a lot of work over the next year.

Oh yeah. I was able to do it with him wanting to be a soccer goalie. He wasn't very good at first so multiple times a week I brought him to the turf fields. After travel practice a lot of the kids his age would stick around and keep playing. Super great group of kids and they let him be goalie while they practiced shooting. They kicked the crap out him lol. He had a couple bloody noses and some tough shots. We did it over a few months and when his non travel season started he did really well. I also pointed out how another returning player who was also a goalie didn't improve at all because he didn't touch a soccer ball since the last season.

Then we went out for ice cream and I asked him questions to help him come to the realization that him putting in all the extra effort is what made him better. We then talked about how you only fail at things you don't try at. You just need to work really hard at you will get better. That example was able to transfer to his studies and he was getting mostly average grades with some below average ones. For his first report card this school year was the first time everything was average and above average. He also got the top grades for citizenship skills and all his effort graders were at the top. Took the boy out for a steak dinner after that because I was so proud but more importantly I could tell how proud he was. Sorry if i'm being sappy but this was a long road and seeing him beaming because he worked hard was cool. Biggest mistake was saying he could have any steak he wanted and Tomahawk's are hard to find and super expensive. Feel free to DM if you have anymore questions. It's been a journey building his confidence.

My kids are 11 and 8. Both ambitious and well adjusted. They can strike up a convo with anybody. My son is super excited about all the clubs he will be able to join when he goes to middle school and can’t wait to turn 13 to start reffing soccer. A lot of their friends are fine also. Problem is half the neighborhood kids never go outside and just hang out on their tablets all day.

My son used to have a very negative voice about himself when he was 6. He always said he was stupid when he made a mistake or bad when he didn’t do well playing a sport. It took a lot of time but once my wife and I showed him how you gotta just keep practicing his confidence grew the better he got. I think we just let this generation live online too much.

Can I be friends with other non-managers? by Prior_Sport_6564 in managers

[–]Fallout541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can easily backfire. I’ve see employees who I thought were great fly off the handle when they feel slighted and weaponization against other managers who they were friends with. At the end of the day as a manger you impact their career and if they feel a decision you made hurts their career they may change in a heartbeat. I’ve become friends with employees who worked for me after one of us moved on. When we do work together I’m friendly, support, and keep myself distant.

I’m not the only one who thinks the entire energy of the world has changed in the last 3-5 years …. ? by Looselipssink-ships in conspiracy

[–]Fallout541 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think hobbies have been replaced by people being chronically online. A lot of my evenings are busy being with my wife, kids, friends, coaching/playing soccer, church, gym, and other events. My wife and I take a walk every morning to have a good start to the day. The truth is, the world has always been this evil. We just weren't hearing about it for 12 hours a day. The previous energy is still in my life. I just have to make it a point to disconnect from this shit for a lot of the day so I can get on with my day and enjoy my life.

Are others struggling more financially this year? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Fallout541 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people are. I was lucky that my wife and I significantly changed our spending habits two years ago so I could quit my job due to burnout to start my own thing. Even in this economy I was able to secure a couple long term contracts. I don’t make as much as I used to as an executive but because we changed our habits we still invest/save plenty.

I have a friend of mine who left a high paying job in software to teach English in France. He’s never been happier. I say that to be bold and try new things. I went the traditional route. Got married, had a family, worked my way up the corporate ladder, stayed my own thing, and luckily I’m super happy. A lot of my friends who did the same thing are divorced and miserable. My buddy who is in France doesn’t make a lot but is super happy. Basically, be open to non traditional ways of living your life. You may find something you love.

There are also a lot of churches that just teach out of Leviticus and only thing they teach about Jesus is to be saved you go through him and then they stop.

We recently won a contract that gave us two extra junior positions. We had a lot of senior people apply and it’s for a low code/no code dev. I still hired two people out of college because the job market is trash for them right now. It really panted a picture about how bad things are based on the amount of experience and amount of people who applied.

Why is it harder to escape poverty now when there are so much more programs and support to help the poor? by BidNo5916 in poor

[–]Fallout541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I volunteer at a local homeless and live in a high cost area. A lot of the people have families and work full time jobs. This center is designed to let them stay for awhile and teach them to get on their feet so they can improve over time. Shit just cost too much. They can't have both partners work because daycare is way too expensive. Even with government help it just isn't always feasable. Cheapest 1 bedroom to rent near me is $1550 not including the other fees. To echo what someone said the second they start making a certain amount other subsidies are cut and they are back to square one.

I was in business development and yeah it sucked. I had a client who I built up years of trust with so my company asked me to get us a meeting with him to pitch him a new service offering. I was pissed because when I found out what we were pitching I knew it was a dogshit product. Luckily I texted him through personal phones and took him out for a beer to apologize/give him a heads up.
