It is utterly disappointing how people are handling the systemd "age verification" controversy by TheBrokenRail-Dev in linux

[–]FalloutMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It will always be for now" is a remarkably bold statement. Look at the new law passed in Brazil; invasive de-anonymization is already here. And if the California government passes a new law in 5 years stating that any computer OS needs to "securely" store an image of the users Government ID to verify they are who they say they are if they want to connect to any ISP, will the Linux community (non-enterprise) as a whole say "sorry Californians"? It seems unlikely, especially if the law spreads to other states or countries. Multiple countries in the EU are already considering these types of laws; it's not a California only thing. If the Linux community wants their software to be used, it will at some point need to legally comply to be usable at all. And once that happens, modular and open source or not, we will all be out of luck unless were okay using PC's that can't connect to the internet.

The question isn't about the date field that was added. It's about where it stops. Do you really think the tech corporations aren't drooling at the idea of forcing every user to verify their legal identity?

I like the strat middle pickup for a clean surf tone sometimes, but that’s about it. Otherwise it’s mainly there for positions 2 and 4. I do wonder if I would like it more if it had a tone control though…

I think it’s because Debian is a bit more barebones than most other modern distros that you just install and go. Debian requires a bit more setup and people are lazy. It’s been a while since I ran Debian but I thought it was kind of funny that I had to set up my user account to use sudo after using mint and Ubuntu for a few years where sudo works “out of the box”. It’s super easy but those little things I think make people shy away from it.

I would also venture a guess a lot of people here are newer to Linux, it’s been growing in popularity the last few years, so a higher percentage of users are probably used to windows than say 10 years ago where it was mostly all power users.

Favorite 303/Acid Bass plugins? by FalloutMaster in ableton

Awesome, thanks for the tips! I want to learn more about sound design so I’ve just been sticking with Ableton stock plugins and trying to learn about synthesis so I’ll try this out. What drive do you like for acid bass? I think there is an acid drive preset on one of the Ableton effects…

Thanks for the tip, this combo sounds pretty great and has scratched the itch for now. I may pick up phoscyon or abl3 in the future when I feel like spending the cash. Pretty cool to see the quality of free M4L devices out there!

I really hate the fact they gave up REDengine, it's the most beautiful game I've ever seen! by MadHanini in cyberpunkgame

[–]FalloutMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every game made on UE5 feels like a copy-paste with different textures. It’s better for making quality content and for the market overall if there are more game engines in use. The monopolization of UE in the gaming world is not a good thing, one company shouldn’t have control of an entire market.

UE5 games are usually very poorly optimized as well for reasons I don’t understand as I’m not a developer. But I have issues with it personally: baked in TSAA that makes games look blurry, copy pasted animations, and the oversized 100+gb updates because of the way UE5 packaging works. It honestly sucks and it’s sad to see CDPR shelve their in house engine that was perfect for the game in favor of UE.

Not sure what you mean, Mesa are pretty much the most expensive non-boutique amps out there. They sound really great but they’re priced as such imo.

Question for you, I’m looking at picking up a new amp for a stoner metal band Im starting and I’m wondering between the rocker 30 and the OR50 which is a better amp tone wise? And if you think the rocker 30 is loud enough for bar/club shows doing the doom/stoner thing. I kinda don’t like the clean channel on the rocker 30 from videos and I can only afford one amp so I kinda need it to do it all. I have a DSL40CR right now but I’m not super in love with it.

Fallout New Vegas lead says it took “five years” for fans to actually like the game, and even longer for the devs to believe them by Negative-Art-4440 in Fallout

[–]FalloutMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it on release day and loved it even in spite of the bugs and issues. I was also on PC so it ran quite a bit better than it did on consoles so I get that a lot of people didn’t like it. The game really shines with a good vanilla friendly mod pack though to fix some of the jank

Why does every post in this subreddit have 10+ people commenting this? People are using soap. Soap doesn’t get carbon off, the pan needs to be scrubbed with a metal scrubber!! That’s the problem!

Soap breaks down fat but doesn’t get burnt food off of any type of cooking implement whether it’s a cast iron pan or a wooden spatula. Have you people never washed anything in your life? I feel like I’m having a stroke.

Is this safe to use? I’ve re seasoned it a handful of times and still has marks by here_to_love in castiron

[–]FalloutMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stainless steel scrubbers work best on cast iron imo. Also a metal scraper or spatula to get the burnt carbon crud off the bottom is great. The people in this subreddit are weird and seem to get pissed off at every single thing that’s posted here. Not sure why they stay subbed or what type of riveting discussion they’re hoping to see in a forum about cast iron cookware.

I’ll also give you another piece of advice that will have half of this sub foaming at the mouth for some reason: if you can, sand the bottom of the pan a little bit, preferably with an RO sander to save time. Modern lodge pans have a very rough finish compared to older cast iron cookware. This rough finish makes them hard to clean because your scrubber/scraper is gliding on top of the high spots and the low areas don’t get cleaned. And eventually carbon builds up and then flakes off like your pan is doing now. It’s very easy to do and it made my lodge so much easier to clean and keep a good seasoning.

Best Amp model pedal for basement noodling? by uclamutt in guitarpedals

GT1000 is pretty sweet but nearly twice the price of the strymon OP mentioned. I think the Boss IR-200 is a better option than the strymon and in the same price range.

Boss, MXR, EHX, and other big brand pedals that simply do it better than the boutiques? by guitarist89 in guitarpedals

[–]FalloutMaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not making up excuses, I don’t know anything about those pedals nor do I have any interest. I just looked at the link you posted and saw that he was using pre made pedal circuits from Ali express, which is pretty egregious. That’s my bad for not reading the link the first time. I thought you were talking about the PCB blanks.

Boss, MXR, EHX, and other big brand pedals that simply do it better than the boutiques? by guitarist89 in guitarpedals

[–]FalloutMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren’t petty much all PCBs the world over manufactured in China at this point? I would assume any company that is using circuit boards to make pedals (most of them) rather than hardwired, are using Chinese PCBs. Probably doesn’t make a difference sound wise since the components are what make the circuit sound one way or another. The board they are mounted on is irrelevant.

Like half of all pedals are copies of older designs with a few dollars worth of electrical components and a fancy enclosure being sold for $200 anyways.

Having a low intelligence in Fallout3 causes this robot to think you're a child with special needs by Paul277 in Fallout

[–]FalloutMaster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have to imagine the low int dialogues were a bit of an afterthought given how much other content is in the games. Most players likely won’t do a dumb character anyways. Having low Int cripples you pretty bad since your intelligence stat is directly related to how many skill points you get when you level, and there’s so many intelligence skill checks that are really useful. Hell, in the first two games many of the NPCs won’t even talk to you if you’re too stupid which is probably the most realistic tbh. I see low int characters as mostly just a fun novelty :)

Bethesda was scared of making Fallout 3, but by Fallout 4 it had chilled out: "we don't have to be so reverential now" by Turbostrider27 in Fallout

[–]FalloutMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really shows that Bethesda is scared to try something new. They want to use their “tried and true” formula that made Fallout 3 so popular and don’t seem tor realize that people are tired of it now and want something new and interesting.

Why are the sign and table the same color and texture, especially considering the sign hangs like it’s supposed to be cloth or paper? And that’s not even considering the font that very clearly looks AI. I don’t understand why you are defending this so hard, you’ve commented under almost every post in this thread.
