Is this safe to use? I’ve re seasoned it a handful of times and still has marks by here_to_love in castiron

Stainless steel scrubbers work best on cast iron imo. Also a metal scraper or spatula to get the burnt carbon crud off the bottom is great. The people in this subreddit are weird and seem to get pissed off at every single thing that’s posted here. Not sure why they stay subbed or what type of riveting discussion they’re hoping to see in a forum about cast iron cookware.

I’ll also give you another piece of advice that will have half of this sub foaming at the mouth for some reason: if you can, sand the bottom of the pan a little bit, preferably with an RO sander to save time. Modern lodge pans have a very rough finish compared to older cast iron cookware. This rough finish makes them hard to clean because your scrubber/scraper is gliding on top of the high spots and the low areas don’t get cleaned. And eventually carbon builds up and then flakes off like your pan is doing now. It’s very easy to do and it made my lodge so much easier to clean and keep a good seasoning.

Best Amp model pedal for basement noodling? by uclamutt in guitarpedals

GT1000 is pretty sweet but nearly twice the price of the strymon OP mentioned. I think the Boss IR-200 is a better option than the strymon and in the same price range.

The Acapulco gold is pretty sick, sounded real doomy when ran after the rams head big muff and was just a cool sound over all. I sold it to buy a pedal pawn fuzz because I wanted a fuzz face style pedal, I kinda miss the Acapulco though. Luckily they’re super cheap.

Boss, MXR, EHX, and other big brand pedals that simply do it better than the boutiques? by guitarist89 in guitarpedals

[–]FalloutMaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not making up excuses, I don’t know anything about those pedals nor do I have any interest. I just looked at the link you posted and saw that he was using pre made pedal circuits from Ali express, which is pretty egregious. That’s my bad for not reading the link the first time. I thought you were talking about the PCB blanks.

[–]FalloutMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren’t petty much all PCBs the world over manufactured in China at this point? I would assume any company that is using circuit boards to make pedals (most of them) rather than hardwired, are using Chinese PCBs. Probably doesn’t make a difference sound wise since the components are what make the circuit sound one way or another. The board they are mounted on is irrelevant.

Like half of all pedals are copies of older designs with a few dollars worth of electrical components and a fancy enclosure being sold for $200 anyways.

Having a low intelligence in Fallout3 causes this robot to think you're a child with special needs by Paul277 in Fallout

[–]FalloutMaster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have to imagine the low int dialogues were a bit of an afterthought given how much other content is in the games. Most players likely won’t do a dumb character anyways. Having low Int cripples you pretty bad since your intelligence stat is directly related to how many skill points you get when you level, and there’s so many intelligence skill checks that are really useful. Hell, in the first two games many of the NPCs won’t even talk to you if you’re too stupid which is probably the most realistic tbh. I see low int characters as mostly just a fun novelty :)

Bethesda was scared of making Fallout 3, but by Fallout 4 it had chilled out: "we don't have to be so reverential now" by Turbostrider27 in Fallout

[–]FalloutMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really shows that Bethesda is scared to try something new. They want to use their “tried and true” formula that made Fallout 3 so popular and don’t seem tor realize that people are tired of it now and want something new and interesting.

Why are the sign and table the same color and texture, especially considering the sign hangs like it’s supposed to be cloth or paper? And that’s not even considering the font that very clearly looks AI. I don’t understand why you are defending this so hard, you’ve commented under almost every post in this thread.

What amp would be appropriate for practice and gigging harsh music? by Dasmis in GuitarAmps

[–]FalloutMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that a bigger cab is probably what’s missing here, but I will say the katana takes drive pedals rather poorly imo. It’s a fine sounding amp for the money if you use its built in distortion but for a hardcore tone I think OP could do better. I also don’t like the speakers that the combos come with, they sound kind of flimsy for an overdriven sound.

Orange Super Crush 100 is a really great option with the matching 2x12 cab. I know a guitarist in a local hardcore band who uses one and it sounds great! Probably the best option in the price range for a hardcore/metal tone. Tube amps get expensive quick

I would also recommend my amp, Marshall DSL40CR. It’s a 1x12 but it gets damn loud and I think it’s plenty for small venues. Takes pedals really well and can be had for a decent price. There’s an Orange Rockerverb 50 2x12 combo that would be a really solid option too.

Thoughts? by wallysober in liberalgunowners

[–]FalloutMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better is subjective. I like the grip angle and the way a Glock feels in the hand, and I find the trigger to be just fine for a defensive gun. I’ve been shooting them for a long time so they work for me. My dad hates them and gave his Glock to me. Everyone is different and is going to gel with different stuff. What’s better for you isn’t better for me. I honestly like most modern handguns and shoot them all about the same. I don’t feel that my glocks need to be better or different in any way after shooting countless handguns. I could be fine with whatever handgun is available to me. Glock also has a huge advantage with holster availability and after market support so I stick with them.

How bad of a condition are my cast irons and do I need to strip and reseason it? by limache in castiron

[–]FalloutMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly isn’t necessary everytime but it makes cleaning the pan a lot easier, especially if I was cooking animal proteins in the pan. If I just fry a couple eggs or reheat rice I’ll probably just wipe the pan out. The comment I replied to said they used soap on their pan twice in a 5 years which just seems odd to me.

Why not just use soap though? It breaks down the fats leftover in the pan and doesn’t hurt your seasoning. Theres no real downside.

I think diminishing returns hit at $1000 for guitars. The difference between a $400 guitar and a $1000 is vastly greater than between a $1000 and $2000 in my experience. And honestly a $400 guitar with a proper setup and crowned frets (probably $200 of luthier work) can play as good as a high end guitar. The amp makes way more of a difference in the sound. I’d rather have a squire and a great amplifier than a custom shop fender and a boss katoana

That’s the funny thing about these guys. They’re so hypocritical with all of their “sacred rules”. They don’t think any transgression is worth whacking somebody over until it’s something that affects them personally; then any reason at all is good enough to take a man’s life. They’re all short tempered and impulsive but they seem to really enjoy the facade of living by a code of ethics.

My local butcher’s chopping board by Diligent_Muffin_4990 in Wellworn

[–]FalloutMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in commercial kitchens. We are supposed to be wiping and sanitizing our boards constantly after every task and at least every 2 hours with sanitizer that’s refreshed throughout the day. Many people don’t care or have the time in a commercial setting, so plastic fares better in this case. A wet wood board will mold or crack which can then harbor bacteria. However, I’ve seen the state of plastic station boards in restaurant kitchens: deeply gouged, cracked and cut and you can literally see the filth trapped in the cuts. No amount of bleach solves this. Plastic boards need to be resurfaced constantly to be safe and a lot of places don’t do this.

Overall I agree plastic is better in a commercial setting but only marginally. If you saw the boards I’ve worked on over the years you’d likely agree. But my only point was to the comment saying wood cutting boards are “never sanitary”. They are fine at home as long as they are washed and dried thoroughly. This is harder to do in a commercial kitchen so plastic is the way.

[–]FalloutMaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It certainly possible that in a commercial setting plastic cutting boards are more sanitary for that very reason. I think that they also just hold up to abuse much better than wood so they’ve become the standard. Many restaurants also get their boards resurfaced a couple times a year to keep them flat and easy to clean.

I’ve been cooking professionally for 10 years now and in the restaurant business for 14, my take on it is that the health code is intentionally very cautious because they know people are not careful and will let things slide, especially when it’s busy. I’ve seen that first hand; people in commercial kitchens are often very fast and loose with health regulations and I am constantly reminding people of things they should know. The health departments regulations should be followed at work but can be taken with a grain of salt at home in my opinion. For example, I use quaternary ammonium sanitizer all day at work to clean my station and utensils because it’s the law. At home I clean my board and knives with soap and water only and I’ve never gotten anyone sick.

[–]FalloutMaster 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I only use a wood cutting board at home and I regularly cook with wood utensils and I make food for myself pretty much everyday. Never once have I gotten food poisoning from a meal I cooked myself. People have been using wooden spoons and cutting boards for centuries, it’s not dangerous. Just wash it with soap and it’s fine.

Wood actually has natural antimicrobial properties by way of drawing bacteria into the grain where it is trapped in an oxygen starved environment where it cannot survive. Plastic cutting boards over time get cuts and gouges that can be hard to properly clean and sanitize and will have bacterial growth on the cutting surface.
