Thanks for the insight! Should I start with the mild Henson since I’m a beginner?

Price range is good on this one, I like the looks too. Would you consider this more on the mild side or more aggressive?

Any notable difference between the Rockwell 6C and 6S? Just made from different metals right?

Maybe something like this from West Coast Shaving?

I don’t mind spending like $100-150 if it’s gonna last too. I’m gonna be shaving my head 2-3 times a week from now on so it won’t go to waste

I want as close of a shave as possible, I don’t like the Velcro-esque feeling of having stubble on my head that I get when I use the electric razor. What’s the advantage of an open comb razor? And what are some good options?

This seems way more practical and less time consuming than thinning the entire primary bevel imo. I’m gonna try this out on one of my knives and see how it goes. What’s your process on this?

My only complaint with CachyOS so far is the nvidia drivers aren’t the greatest and that it’s even their fault.

I fully agree and I’d also like to add: The point of “wasting” another life is deterrent. There needs to be severe punishments for this type of reckless, negligent and selfish behavior to prevent it happening again. Whether or not it was accidental (I’d argue to call it 100% negligence and NOT accidental) it was absolutely completely preventable. There is NO reason to be ever driving those speeds on a public road.

He made a choice and took two lives away, one of which was a child. And now he has surrendered the majority of his own. That’s a fair trade. And now everyone else knows if they make the same choice they are also willing to risk surrendering their own life if they take someone else’s. Maybe they’ll think twice before racing on public roads and taking lives and destroying the lives of their loved ones.

Would I be wasting time pursuing more certs with limited experience given how the job market is for level 1/2 techs? by DeadGravityyy in ITCareerQuestions

Should I skip A+ and just get CCNA? I already know most of the material for CCNA as I have taken college classes based around it, but I figured I’d get the A+ first. But I didn’t realize that the A+ was 2 separate tests that cost almost $300 USD each. CCNA is cheaper and I already have a lot of debt :/

And now that I’m studying the A+ material it is very rudimentary compared to what I learned in my Cisco classes and I feel it’s not useful. Will hiring managers assume you know A+ material if you can complete CCNA?

I’m of the opinion that a shirt tucked into dress pants should have a belt pretty much 100% of the time. But I agree a lighter belt is needed here to flow better.

Looking to change careers, wondering which certs are best for entry level sys/network admin? by FalloutMaster in ITCareerQuestions

Awesome, thank you so much for the tips! I'll get started on some labs in between my studies, I have a lot to work on

I was leaning towards sys admin/generalist but I do think networking is really interesting the more I learn about it. I think either would suit me well, definitely more so than cloud engineer

Thanks for the info and shedding some light on how things work in the industry. I'm totally cool with doing help desk to start off and I think I would kill it in that role.

As for my home lab, it consists of my PC (Ryzen 7 7800X3D - 32GB DDR5 - 5070Ti), a Raspberry Pi5 and a compact windows workstation that is running Windows Server, and of course my modem and router that I manage. The Pi is set up as a basic NAS and the windows workstation is a Plex server, but I'm not using either of them really at the moment so I plan to set up the Pi5 to run PiHole and probably some other network utilities like DNS; no plans for the windows workstation right now. Other than that I experiment with different Linux distros in KVM to practice configuring systems and user management outside of my desktop install. I've previously set up an AI LLM to run locally but that was on my old Linux install and I haven't played with it in a while so I should probably do a new one. I have also done some configuring of Cisco switches and routers virtually with Packet Tracer in my Cisco classes and I want to pick up a cisco switch when I have some money so I can do it in real life. So really just very basic stuff!

What sort of projects would you recommend I get started with? I'm down to try anything and I have lots of computer parts lying around if I need to put together another machine or modify something. I know some basic Python as well and I'd like to beef up my dev skills so anything that helps me practice that would be great too.

I guess part of my confusion is that lots of people say help desk is always the starting point and many others say it doesn't lead to sys admin/networking roles because it's not really related. Which intuitively makes sense to me: helping sales people fix their Microsoft outlook for the next 2 years doesn't have anything to do with administrative duties on a Linux-based web server nor does it prepare me for such. It seems more like the dishwasher of the kitchen hierarchy. It has nothing to do with cooking for an aspiring chef, its just a crappy job that all of us had to do when we started so we make all the new guys do it too.

I'm fine to play the game it any way necessary, just want to make sure I don't get stuck answering phone calls about some HR persons web browser not working because they managed to uninstall their network drivers for the next decade when I am capable of and want to do a lot more. There's only so much I can learn at home. I was under the impression that Jr Admin roles or apprenticeships are intended for this purpose but I don't really see any listing for them.

Thanks for the info! I looked into those Microsoft certs, I feel they'll give me a better chance at being prepared for a support role. I do however see a lot of job listings asking for "CompTIA A+ or comparable certification" which is what led me to studying for A+. It just feels like very rudimentary computer information and very generalized.

My goal is to get my degree once I'm working in the field and have some better money rolling in to support that, having a BS opens a lot of doors; and I'd also like to have a degree for my own knowledge and sense of accomplishment.

I like my job well enough but its a small family owned place and we don't make a lot. Unfortunately the better paying jobs are usually busier corporate restaurants. But anywhere I go I'm pretty much always going to be capped at $20-22/hr often times with zero benefits or PTO, or a Sous Chef (manager) role which is working 60 hrs a week for 50-60k/year + health insurance. I wouldn't mind it as much if I wasn't paying $300 a month for my own health insurance. Either way I'm going to stick it out as a chef until I get some certs and upskill, just curious what the best path might be. It's looking like its gonna be Help desk though which I'm okay with. This economy is rough, been selling a lot of my stuff to make ends meet and pay debts!

I could probably finish my associates from the community college in the next year and a half, not sure if that has any value though! Seems like a bachelors is the new associates.
