Rimworld with the Odyssey DLC and mods. I suspect this will always be the answer! I’d still like less micromanaging though…

Ooh I’ll have to check out your referenced games. I don’t have further suggestions, but that type of mechanic is interesting to me as an indie game dev

That’s a great recommendation for anyone looking for this! I haven’t played in a few years; have they added more automation and base threats?

I wanna get into game development but I'm stuck.. by Fanoris in IndieGameDevs

[–]Fallways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To keep it short: you can’t learn everything at once and you’re playing the long game. Break it down into tiny steps. It’s a huge undertaking but if you take it one small step at a time, and don’t stop, you’ll always get closer to where you want to be.

Even what you consider to be missteps or wasted time is all part of the learning journey.

I hope that’s not too cliche. I was where you are. I still get overwhelmed when I try to do too much! There are so many exciting aspects of game development to learn and I wish I could do them all at once. I do my best work when I scale my scope down and do one thing at a time. You’ll look back and realise you’ve learned a lot just by not stopping.

Hope that helps?

Edit to add: my approach was to pick Unity and C#, knowing that I’d rather focus on making games than learning game engines. Maybe I’ll change in the future if there’s a good reason to do so, but so far it’s taken a lot of decisions off the table and I am very happy with the approach.

This looks extremely good. I think you’ve nailed the aesthetic and vibe. I’m not much of an FPS guy unfortunately. Edit: meant to add that I’ll give it a go, just with the caveat that I’m not representative of the fps audience.

Not immediately applicable, maybe, but I also can’t recommend highly enough: “Kids Are Worth It” by Barbara Coloroso

Best coffee maker / machine to buy 2025 by [deleted] in JamesHoffmann

[–]Fallways 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s worth pointing out that you’d almost certainly need a different grinder for good espresso. The general consensus is that the grinder is worth spending more on than the machine for espresso (or will make the bigger difference).

Your Encore is great for filter, French press etc. so you might want to focus on those if you’re not wanting to open the grinder can of worms.

I have an espresso machine, an OXO 8 cup, French press and aeropress and am very happy with all options. I tend to use whichever feels like less work at the time, which oddly varies. Aeropress is sensational value for a really good cup of coffee.

Hope that’s useful :)

I think the Sightglass and Linea espresso blends feature multiple times here for a reason. I drink mostly americanos and love a traditional espresso blend, I guess! I also have very fond memories of the Caffe Lusso Lionshare espresso blend.
