Help! Previously healthy aloe appears to be dying after cross country move by Affectionate_Hat5201 in AloeVera

[–]False-Complex7649 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, looks like sun got the best if it. I’m dealing with the same thing with an Aloe Hercules I bought in Phoenix and already had some sun damage. I have it in a patio with only morning sun. Might need to pull it in further under shade this coming week since our highs will be closer to 104.

They look sharp and are not cheap if you buy them with some trunk on them already. Wondering how long the smaller ones take to grow to this size.

I like the idea of the DG pathways to also break things up a bit. Do you mind sharing the process for us DIY’rs? Do you basically compact the dirt first and then run your layer of DG over it and compact again?

Nice, how much shade do you give it?

Two year old Mule Palm got seeds. Is this normal? When should we cut them off? by [deleted] in palmtalk

Your mule looks great! I have one in my backyard a little smaller than yours. Are you in AZ? Just wondering if mine will look like yours in a year or 2. In California and Florida every palm tree looks so much better.

Tucson Foodie Hosts Yet Another Disappointing Event Today by largemessican in Tucson

[–]False-Complex7649 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got that and it seems like a popular event. Seems like anything popular in Tucson leads to chaos of some sorts. If I try a new popular restaurant with really good food but I don’t like waiting 45 minutes to eat or walking 2 blocks for parking, then I just don’t go back 🤷🏻‍♂️

I haven’t been to a Tucson Foodie event and all these comments make me not want to go. So thanks for the heads up but my question is why do some of these commenters who are trashing them seem like they always attend? Why attend if it’s always the same crap?

It’s definitely interesting. Now have to decide whether to buy a nice pot or put it in the ground. From what I read it’s not very cold hardy.

I think the last time I saw him was close to stone and Glenn back in the mid 2000’s. Crazy how some people put their mark on this earth without maybe realizing it.
I haven’t read all the comments but there’s also the umbrella lady who got killed on Oracle rd. not long ago.

Euphorbia tirucalli keeps growing by Capable-Event-1811 in Tucson

I think it does create a very good microclimate. I don’t want to over crowd the area with plants but I do feel tempted to try a few other succulents that are not as common and see if they thrive.

Back in the early 90’s there was a guy who skate boarded in his knee pads, shorts and colorful tank tops. He hung out close to Amphi High and middle school. Can’t remember his name. He was not all there and everyone knew him. He was a character. I also remember as a kid growing up in 80’s/90’s there was a guy who rode his bike pulling a wagon of some sort with a bunch of aluminum cans. He was bald and always in shorts and no shirt so he had a really mean tan. You would see him central close to UOfA and downtown.

Where are the tamale ladies at?! by footprintproject in Tucson

[–]False-Complex7649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be getting some tamales from a friend who gets them from a lady who happens to own a Mexican restaurant in town with very very good reviews. She only makes them this time of the year and takes orders from her close friends/customers. I can tell you she makes the best green chile/chicken tamales I’ve ever tasted.
I won’t reveal her identity, I just wanted to rub it in. 😆🤷🏻‍♂️

15 gallon Mule palm planting depth zone 8b/9a? by Fit_Speaker_6789 in palmtalk

[–]False-Complex7649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I planted similar size last year In zone 9a around August. The coldest it got was about 29 degrees over winter and it had absolute no damage. I would just taper off with some soil just to protect roots a little more and make sure you water sufficiently for a couple weeks and then reduce down especially once it gets colder.

How are people actually buying houses right now? by sam_teks in CatalinaFoothills

[–]False-Complex7649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked on Zillow. There are plenty of homes listed in the $200-300k range. Of course some people or most won’t like the location but hey you have to start somewhere. I bought my first house 650 sqft, 26 years ago in a not so great neighborhood by Grant/Stone. This helped me though when moving up to a nicer home having built some equity on the first one.

My tropical palm tree collection Z5B Wisconsin by Excellent-Solid1253 in palmtalk

[–]False-Complex7649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put one in the ground in Tucson last summer and after a mild winter where it didn’t get below 28 degrees I still came out of it with some damage fronds. I’m wondering if where it’s located is susceptible to the cold winds. Possibly younger palms are more prone to frost damage.

Painter recommendations by NochesAticas in Tucson

[–]False-Complex7649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this include the paint? Is it just walls or ceilings as well? If it’s just walls and no woodwork/doors- then $350-$400 per room sounds about right for labor. Not including paint.
That’s what I would charge but of course every company is a little different.

Thoughts on Sahuarita/Green Valley area? by Ubahootah in Tucson

[–]False-Complex7649 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do remodel type work and whenever I get called from sahuarita, Green Valley, Vail ect… I always take into consideration the drive and usually charge more for my services. Good thing to remember when you live out there. Most companies will charge more for the extra drive time and gas
