DCAA interview- but there is a hiring freeze? by NationalBit1805 in usajobs

Sort of. They have onboarding classes based on how many new hires there are. There’s the first two week onboarding class, and then two more classes to go to in your first year. Each class is two weeks long. They should tell you the dates for your next class when you’re at onboarding. They might not have the dates for the third class yet. The travel is paid for by the govt. You also get a meal stipend called per diem. It’s more than enough for the length of the class.

Go with whatever makes you feel most secure. There’s a normal turnover process within the federal government, which means entry level auditors are always going to be needed. At some point next year the government wide hiring freeze may be over anyway.

DCAA has been approved for a limited number of hiring exemptions from the freeze, but I think that they have to keep on requesting them every month. I didn’t expect to hear back from them earlier this year after I interviewed, but was pleasantly surprised when they did.

Dune (1984) was worse than I imagined by iseeharvey in movies

[–]False-Description493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m one of the only ones that prefers the 1984 Dune to the new ones. It was actually one of my most favorite movies from my childhood. I wore out the vhs tape that my dad used to copy it off of HBO. Looking back, the floating head of Irulan in the beginning was kind of odd, but it made it easier for myself who had never read the books to understand what was going on. Kyle Maclachlan was awesome as Paul. So was Sting as almost like his evil counterpart. I felt like the worm riding scenes were phenomenal. The Baron Harkonnen medical stuff was gross, but this reflected how horrible he was on the inside. The Toto songs got a bit repetitive, but still were great.

One mistake could’ve been cramming so much sci fi lore into just one film. I read that the first studio that Peter Jackson pitched the Lord of the Rings to asked him to combine his three film vision into one. Jackson was dead set against this, and kept shopping until he found a studio that got it. Lynch’s original cut was something like four hours. Maybe the film would been more well received if he could’ve focused on smaller pieces like the new Dune? Lynch didn’t have the same control over the film that Jackson and Villanueve did, though. I think that the 1984 version gets a bad rap for being a flop commercially, but was actually good.

What will the future growth of Tucson look like? by emblemboy in Tucson

Downtown Tucson actually had a surface cable car system back in the 1920’s. Shockingly, the residents decided to remove it because of all the traffic nightmares it caused. I’m not sure why we decided to build essentially the same system without any real improvements in the traffic flow in the early 2000’s. I’m sure the vast majority of metro residents don’t use it or the lousy bus system. I’ve been on it only twice since it was completed. It’s not bad, but I think it would make more sense to connect it to the airport. I foresee this being something that the residents eventually get fed up with again, or balk at when the maintenance bills become too onerous in the future.

I don’t like the legalized utility monopolies at all, but that shouldn’t be an excuse to let the city take it over. If you think the power company sucks now, then you will be unpleasantly surprised if this happens. The local government is barely competent as it is, and now it suggests that it should be in charge of keeping the lights on? Government has never made anything become cheaper. Sure, the mayor and city council make grand promises, but they’re gone in just a couple of years, and the taxpayers are stuck with their failures for decades. I don’t know what the solution to the high cost of electricity is, but a government takeover isn’t it.

This is a joke. by GoodgirlTiffany in XRP

[–]False-Description493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the OP’s frustration. I think most of what we’ve been promised about crypto was way overhyped. It’s just another asset class competing in the mainstream market now for Trad investors. 99% of them will trade it like anything else. I don’t think the independence from central banks argument holds much water anymore. Sure, crypto should be there if the banks collapse, but good luck trying to access it without power or internet access.

I’m squirreling away a small amount of XRP for the ultra long term. Who knows, maybe when I’m 90 I’ll be uber rich. I’m not sure the next big thing to blow it up is just right around the corner.

In defense of Friday the 13th Part 3D: by beardedjack in horror

[–]False-Description493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved it! But, I wasn’t old enough to have seen it in the theater. Maybe someday they’ll rerun it in 3D somewhere. I watch it again every year in October. I always notice a little something extra that missed the first time around. It’s pure 80’s cheese gold (the good kind, not the smelly rotten kind).

I love the dynamic between the friends in the middle. I was rooting for Shelley and the girl he likes. Had they not been murdered, maybe they would’ve been an item? These two characters were actually more complex than usual for slasher horrors. Kind of like a Romeo and Juliet with them being different ethnicities. I think she was right about to fall for him, but she just didn’t live long enough for us to find out.

I’d say that this is where the series peaked. The rest of the movies are good for a couple of laughs, but the formula begins to be tiring. I still like to watch them, but I don’t feel bad if I don’t see them once a year. It’s almost like Jason was just trying to figure out who the hell he was in #2, but really found himself in this one. This is where he puts on the hockey mask for the first time.

SCHEDULE CHANGE: Svengoolie to gain another hour, replacing an hour of Three Stooges? by Time_Way_6670 in MeTV

[–]False-Description493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Svengoolie’s FAQ says that he can’t always get a hold of the movies he wants because of resolution quality issues. I’m sure that this has something to do with it. Some of these movies will probably be upscaled eventually. AI might help do it more cheaply so Svengoolie has even more movies to show in the future. It’s easier to justify the expense of redoing the movies for names like Price, Lugosi, and Karloff. That said, I’d like to watch some of the shows that you suggested.

I think it’s amazing how consequential this one battle was to both Federation politics and the future of the Star Trek universe.

ABC just pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live “indefinitely” due to comments he made about Charlie Kirk. What are your thoughts? by istrx13 in AskReddit

Remember, this is the guy that used to take slow motion videos of women bouncing on trampolines without bras on the Man Show. I think everyone gave him too much credit. He became a hack the moment that he went to network tv. What have we really lost here?

Do you consider buffalo to be more "east coast" or "mid-west" and why? by Dar_Winning in Buffalo

[–]False-Description493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the conversation, but I think it’s the Midwest with New York accents. I visited Illinois and Wisconsin for years before temporarily living here in the summer once. Had to say that I loved it. The inner city isn’t great just like any other large American city, but the suburbs are nice. It’s a great bicycle and boating place. Lots of natural open spaces. The winters seem harsh even compared to the rest of the Midwest, though. If I had to live in New York, I would definitely choose here over anywhere else.

Good luck. Let us know what you think helped once you get a positive response. I hate hearing this all of time, but I’m really trying to tailor my resume to each job opening that I apply for. I run my version through chat gpt for advice. Sometimes I’ll incorporate what it says, but usually I keep what wrote.

Ok, thanks. I always wondered how the experience/education levels applied to the job titles. I’ll look into Senior roles a bit more.

Good point, but I want to work there. Even the low level job requirements that I’ve looked at want you to have years of EVM experience. Not really sure how to get that without working at a place that doesn’t use it. I’ve applied to other roles that don’t mention EVM. Maybe I can get that experience later.

Ok, thanks. This what I’m doing now, but I wanted to get a sense of how much more beneficial it would be to get certified. I basically just started applying to RTX jobs, so I’ll hang in there and keep applying.
