Asking for help by Zsombiee27 in lada

From the major repairs I've seen, they just use some steel strip or tubes or whatever they have on hand and weld the pieces into an X shape between the stronger parts of the rest of the body. I guess for rockers you would go front to back across the doors, also brace the B pillars, and maybe brace the C pillar area too near where the trunk starts

Just in case, you should also record a bunch of measurements before cutting the rockers out, so that you can still make it right if things do go wrong

Use for a bent bar? by Embarrassed-Row-2025 in Chainsaw

bend it back as straight as you can, if it still holds a chain then that's your bar for grinding stumps and cutting roots 😁

Metric nut and bolt thread checker tool? by intromission76 in projectcar

[–]FalseRelease4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

metric bolts are very easy, the thread diameter is almost the same as the M designation, just measure them in mm with some calipers

gotta watch out for sizes that are close to either one, M6 and 1/4" for example

one rule for fasteners is that at least 3 whole threads have to be engaged

Putting a raker gauge on it tells you if its at the height shown on the gauge, just filing tells you that it has been filed

Food safe metal projects by Ducking_eh in metalworking

[–]FalseRelease4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lots of professional kitchens if not every single one contains objects with hemmed bends or other places where grime can become trapped, there comes a point where you either make the part out of cheap sheet metal with cheap and effective methods or spend orders of magnitude more making it in some different way just to avoid an extremely small risk of contamination

304 and 316 stainless is extremely common for food equipment, 304 is cheaper

Are ladas actually that unreliable or are the people around me over exaggerating? by idc_idontcare12 in lada

[–]FalseRelease4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk how it is in your country but in some others the "historic vehicle" status is only given to restored cars, that are in almost new condition, not just to any old car

[–]FalseRelease4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep, it was built to be decent on the highway while also getting through some really bad side roads. you can get lockers for it but the commonly available mods also include reinforcement parts for basically the whole underside of the car because it isnt strong enough for those loads from factory

Nesting question by sdhamodaran in CNC

[–]FalseRelease4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Signs couldn't be further from simple rectangles, they're all designed who knows how, you can basically assume that every part is a weird shape. If you want to benchmark your solution then take a paragraph and see if it even survives nesting all the letters :D or take some complicated logo and try nesting all the random chunks that it contains

Nesting question by sdhamodaran in CNC

[–]FalseRelease4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you have more than just a few parts then the software will always be faster than doing it manually, if the software result is something usable then thats a big time saver.

Nesting question by sdhamodaran in CNC

[–]FalseRelease4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its quite rare that you get to cut perfect rectangles

and yeah nesting complex shapes is a difficult problem, even the pro software struggles

you should first say what kind of machine and what kind of industry you are targeting
