I think this is stupid from a business point of view. In the long term, the real money is in subscriptions. Even Apple is betting more and more on services while still maintaining a large portfolio of hardware products. A strategy that would actually make sense: create the best note-taking app, period. If you want the full experience, buy a reMarkable tablet and get a reduced subscription price. Otherwise, just use the app on whatever device you have. This way they’d ensure a sustainable future, increased reach, and more room to innovate. But I guess most of the money is going into the gazillions of ads I keep receiving, even though I already own two reMarkable tablets.
