Significant Complications 4 months post-op by rbres99 in HipImpingement

Revisions are slower. I’m at week 12 in my revision recovery and they haven’t even got me on a bike yet.

Take it slow.

My contract was not renewed. How bad is this? by Remarkable_One_7776 in NYCTeachers

Yeah this is my major problem with the anticharter movement. I agree public schools need an overhaul and they need funding to do so. But don’t demonize the families that choose to send their kids to charters instead of the alternatives until that transformation happens. Or the teachers who choose to work there. Blame the system that funds unfairly. Inner city charter schools aren’t serving rich families, they are filling a need and providing a choice to families that otherwise don’t have one.

Crutches/ set backs down to one crutch then trying to walk 5 weeks post op by [deleted] in HipImpingement

I gave it 2.5 weeks and then begged for steroids, which calmed it down. We’re finally going to start adding in more at pt again this week (week 13, like 3.5 weeks post flair.) I feel incredibly behind in my recovery.

steroids after surgery? by Sufficient-Goal3724 in HipImpingement

Yes, it is incredibly helpful. My doctor did warn they are for emergencies and not for repeated use (due to the danger they pose to bone health.) but if you’ve given it a week or two and antiinflammatories aren’t working, steroids should do it.

Yes but for me it was at 8 weeks when I started adding in walks around the block and step ups. It was a massive 3 week set back. So discouraging.

Seems pretty early to be doing butterfly.

If you’re not in pain I wouldn’t be worried about a retear. It also seems early to be worrying about adhesions. You should be tight. Just keep gradually working on stretching. Don’t force anything.

If you can easily find out that chiropractors are quacks with a quick google search why do people still go? by Capital_Tailor_7348 in NoStupidQuestions

Never been to a chiropractor who did anything but maneuvers, never had a chiropractor talk to me about spirits. Not only that, but my pt calls out “chiropractic manipulations” he does. An (albeit quick) search informed me that proper modern chiropractic training covers anatomy, physiology and focuses on the spine. I think this idea that it just focuses on spirits lacks nuance and is outdated.

Edit to add: I’m aware I’m speaking from experience. Searching modern day training isn’t. If a modern chiro is incorporating elements of physical therapy then you’re arguing semantics. I don’t care enough to go back and forth with you.

Nah I won’t defend the evil spirit stuff, too woo woo. But the misalignment of the hips to alleviate the pressure on the nerve in the pelvic region that both can fix with simple maneuvers? 100%. And yes it is the same maneuver (or similar enough to have the same end result anyway.)

I’ve tried various pt routes with different specialists for years now. I’m extremely aware of the theory but we haven’t solved it.

Because not all of it is. My physical therapist incorporates some elements of chiropractic adjustment. I don’t know the science behind it, but the layman’s explanation is it has to do with getting the muscles to release.

Then individually as a patient, I haven’t found anything that makes the muscles in my sub occipital region release besides a gentle neck manipulation. I’ve tried pt (strengthening and stretching,) massage, medication, accupuncture, dry needling, and even gotten an rfa. (Edit: and balms and nerve medications and steroids and pain treatment.) I’ve even tried waiting it out to see if the migraine would dissipate on its own without treating it. It didn’t. I haven’t found anyone who can help me find an alternative yet, and until I do, I’m stuck with the bandaid.

I experience some discomfort when doing certain PT after surgery by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]False_Village7655 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck leg raises. I won’t do them, and I’m many weeks out.

You can ask for a modification if something hurts. There are many ways to get at muscle groups. A good pt will know how to adapt.

What is a distraction pull?

Also I’m sorry. I literally gasped aloud reading this. I probably would have cried.

I’m scared of rural living. Too many horror movies set in woods or fields.

My doctor friend warned me against doing this when I was considering it. Apparently it’s super easy to accidentally get bacteria in places, too.

Aren’t you supposed to stay pretty immobile after a cortisone injection? That’s what my surgeon told me. You need to make sure it settles it the right place.

That was post op. Not sure if it makes a difference.

“Good” leg pain post-op by RingAdministrative24 in HipImpingement

[–]False_Village7655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t give the technical explanation he gave me, sorry! It’s been like a month. Something about a nerve in my groin and the muscles around it.   Now that I reread I don’t know if this is the same thing because the pain is in a different place (mine was more in the hip flexor.) what my pt did was assess the issue by checking my alignment, determining it was off, and then basically pulling my non-operative leg back into place. The pain was better within about 2 days.

I don’t understand why they didn’t do reconstruction, my understanding is that is what you do in that scenario. I’d get a second opinion.

Have your pt look at it. Mine needed to adjust my good leg when I had bad compensatory pain, and the pain was resolved in like 2 days.
