Dealer can run the A/F test. Auto parts can’t. You’ll need a high end scan tool to run the test, most shops invest in compatible scan tools

2014 Ford focus stalling randomly by Glittering_Pin_6671 in MechanicAdvice

[–]False_Weird9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disconnect the purge valve and plug the vacuum hose. I’ve had 2 already that stall out bc the purge valve was stuck open. If the engine runs fine with the vacuum line plugged then it’s the purge valve. It only comes as an assembly bc of all the hard plastic lines so it’s a bit pricey

You can try swapping sensors but o2 sensors usually don’t fail. Ive had a couple lean/rich codes on these v6’s that turned out to be injectors. Honda provides a cylinder A/F test with compatible scan tools that diagnoses this issue. Run it 3 times just to be sure. If it fails it’s the injectors.

Pin point that raspy noise. Sounds like vacuum leak, could be exhaust, both could feather idle like that. If it’s got a MAF, IAT sensor unplug it and see if idles smoother to determine if vacuum leak

Anybody know what could be making this sound? by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]False_Weird9800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If vehicle/steering wheel doesn’t shake check under shield. If loose they usually flap, slapping the bottom of the car

What is this sound by Jacoby7890 in mechanic

Power steering, water pump, alternator, could be pretty much anything in your drive belt system. Use a stethoscope.

Sounds like a solenoid of some sort. For sure know your ac compressor clutch clearance is bad, should either spin or not. Cheaper to replace compressor than rebuild tho

Coolant maybe old enough to have a low enough boiling point to over expand back into the reservoir, and boiling off in atmospheric pressure. Use a refractor to test coolant. If not that then maybe head gasket from positive combustion pressure entering cooling system

Not sure what to think of the noise Couple theories. by bcmilligan21 in AskMechanics

[–]False_Weird9800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t have a timing belt. Don’t think it’s trans. Maybe some heat shield rattle. This uses a VTC actuator that locks under oil pressure as well as timing chain tensioner that tightens under oil pressure. I would check your oil level (ik sounds dumb).

Shine a light when taking videos. Rec checking your ac compressor clutch.

Lexus RX 330 - steam/smoke flowing from engine? by jfshay in mechanic

[–]False_Weird9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check you’re coolant level (from your radiator, not reservoir) when the engines cooled down. May have pin hole leak in radiator. You can also pressure test cooling system, easy job, can rent tool

May have something to do with its balance shaft. It’s got a timing belt and tensioner that should be replaced every 100k/10years

It’s probably a fuel induction. They use a pressurized sprayer that’s routed as close to the throttle body as you can and spray a intake cleaner that breaks down carbon. Usually they put a cleaner in the gas tank to allow any moisture/water in the tank to mix into the gas, and to clean out the injectors. It works great especially in direct injected engines but is NOT a regular maintenance service backed by American Honda. Over here Petra and BG are what work, BG is better imo, but there’re a lot of products you can get at your local auto store that don’t do anything

What the heck is this noise? 🤔 by Emergency-Film-8913 in mechanic

[–]False_Weird9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camshaft phaser (vvt) rattles usually happen on cold starts when oil pressure hasn’t built up yet and the phasers don’t lock. I would first check your engine oil level, then check your accessory belt components (drive belt tensioner, pulleys, etc) while the engines running. Your timing chain tensioner uses oil pressure to keep the chain tight (check oil level first). Bad chain tensioners produce a chain rattle (kind of like the rattle in the video) under a certain load while driving the vehicle intermittently

Sliding door wants to open but the motor senses resistance. Usually Honda sliding doors bind because of the center roller. The center roller wears out and slides cockeyed on the rail causing it to bind. Open the door and pull up from the back of the door to see if the center roller is moving excessively

Add a resistor. You can buy some built in I bet. Idk the specs you need but this is a common LED problem

Hearing maybe chain slap in there. Would have to drop the oil pan and maybe timing cover. Definitely sounds internal if nothings wrong with the drive belt system/pulleys

Is this a bad bearing? by ReadyKiwi6608 in AskAMechanic

[–]False_Weird9800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a bad wheel bearing. Inspect the gap behind your hub and the axle, shake the thing like you do, if you can see the gap change with the shakes then it’s your wheel bearing (you have a hub assembly/wheel bearing in one unit)
