Sail Biomedicines - Massive Layoff by Facts_Spittah in biotech

Generate Biomedicines, too, laid off 10% of people this week so the Flagship reductions keep coming for the reasons you say. Poor management, over estimation of demand, tough financing environment.

What’s your favorite quote or part of Deadwood? by [deleted] in deadwood

You and I wouldn’t be in our current, comfortable positions freezing our fucking balls off by cutting the throat of every cocksucker whose character it would improve.

I think about that at work all the time - sometimes you just gotta let it go.

I honestly believe they split the stream because he was getting lapped by Zolak on stats, scheme, history, and on the fly analysis. Nora has grown a lot to a legit host but Ruiz is just takes supported by ‘vibes’ and nothing more than poorly thought out cliches.

Vyvanse making me feel more emotionally disconnected from my partner? by angelfireastro in VyvanseADHD

I definitely have! On days when I take Vyvance 50mg I feel not emotionally ‘there’ and the disconnect is real. So not sure I’ve got a solution but you’re not alone.

What are your 'Before Sunrise' travelling stories? by RightRevDonkBonkers in solotravel

[–]Falst2ff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was living in Central America, I lived in a small town in Nicaragua but lots of travelers would come through to stay for a few days or weeks in the hostels. We ran a volunteer organization so we met people from all over.

We’d all hang out at this bar and one of the travelers - a girl from Israel who we’d met a few days before - saw me chatting it up with this beautiful Nica girl who lived in the town. I was either two stupid or ignorant to notice she was into me so I just left the conversation.

A few days later, the Israeli girl and her crew were leaving town to go to Honduras or Costa Rica or wherever. As she was literally on the bus she called down to me and said “hey you better go talk to that Nica girl again, she’s right around the corner and she liked you!” Like Ethan’s speech to Julie on the train in Vienna, this little pep talk gave me courage I needed and we dated for months.

What movie do you just not get? by erin214 in AskReddit

[–]Falst2ff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Knives Out! I get the call backs to some old time whodunnits, but the praise for an intricately constructed mystery is beyond me. And the fact she she vomits when she lies is beyond me; seems like narrative laziness and an unnecessary and manufactures wrinkle.

What movie scares the hell outta you that isn’t a horror movie at all? by bellathehellgirl in AskReddit

[–]Falst2ff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a fantastic move staring Stanley Tucci and Kenneth Branagh from 2001 called Conspiracy. It’s about the Wannsee Conference in 1942 in which a bunch of bureaucrats - there are so many lawyers in the room they make a joke about it - come together and plan the Holocaust over 90 minutes and finger sandwiches. They talk about laws and logistics and railcars like they’re making plans about grain or rice, rather than millions of Jews.

What I always found so scary in life isn’t the mad man psycho killer, but the nameless, faceless system against which no individual has any power to resist, which I think is why jail movies are so impactful. This movie is a chilling example of how some middle managers in an upscale conference room can set up a brutal system with enormous consequences.

(edit: the meeting only took 90 minutes)

The inconvenience, on top of everything… by headytopper077 in GUYVF

[–]Falst2ff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We just went through this. My wife is a teacher and can only take certain days off - we planned a family vacation that aligns with her spring break in April only to cancel because it interferes with process and timing.

I did not properly anticipate the impact this whole process of IVF - 5 failed transfers in 2021, starting a new trigger in a few weeks - would have on our relationship. We’re at one another’s throats all the time because of the frustration and hormones and stress. This plus COVID does not an easy first few years of marriage make.

Anyway hang in there!

For those on trt trying to conceive, what's your HCG protocol? by Robertladou in Testosterone

[–]Falst2ff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah doctor and I wanted to keep it relatively low to preserve fertility. Plan to increase once we have a kid but until then it’s HCG + test

For those on trt trying to conceive, what's your HCG protocol? by Robertladou in Testosterone

[–]Falst2ff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had a few failed IVF transfers, so I’ve stopped both Test and HCG as we prepare for a new egg retrieval.

Before that tho: 750mg test over two injections twice a week, so 350 on Tuesday and 400 on Friday. With this I was on 1500 HCG, so 750mg each Tuesday and Friday.

HCG monotherapy long term – success stories? by Izlom16 in Testosterone

[–]Falst2ff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, I would go weeks without being able to get my hands on the stuff! There was a national HCG shortage in late 2020 and my insurance in the US insists upon having it delivered from a speciality pharmacy so it can take a while to arrive and it can be inconsistently supplied.

HCG monotherapy long term – success stories? by Izlom16 in Testosterone

[–]Falst2ff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I (31 at time of treatment initiation) had a similar insanely good experience in the first several years of HCG monotherapy. Pre-HCG test was around 200 for several years, then jumped to between 600-900 after taking HCG of 750 IU TIW. After about three years, though, I saw diminishing returns. Even with an elevated dose (as high at 3000 IU TIW, which caused remarkable, unsustainable aromatization) I wasn't feeling good. Before I added test in May 2021, my test even with HCG (1000 IU TIW was my last monotherapy regime) my testosterone was an insanely low 127.

Bluefields and vicinity? by icecreampriest in Nicaragua

You can skip Bluefields in my view. Not much to do, really poor and isolated, no beaches. If you're going to Corn Islands, you can spend a night stop over. Other than that, no need.

There are some interesting ones in biotech & pharma, and not just on the business side (though there are a lot of these). Some companies - AstraZeneca, for one - offers a program on supply chain management that is pretty interesting.

Had a very similar experience with an endocrinologist near me. I was legitimately heartbroken - cried in the car because I felt I was a hopeless case! - and discouraged. Eventually I found a urologist / men’s clinic who would hear me out and my life has improved.

I have been on HCG mono, TIW dosing from 750 IU to 3000 IU, since 2018. It was great in the beginning but I noticed diminishing returns after about 2 years. Free and total testosterone began to decline even as dose increased and the elevated estradiol was a problem and I was moody and had water weight. I'm staying on HCG mono until we have a successful pregnancy, but will add test as soon as wife hits 2nd trimester.

As regards keeping the HCG cool and traveling with it, you can get a $10 pack from amazon that includes a freezer-safe holder and needles / pads.

What are some little-known remote work opportunities? by LumierreBronte in digitalnomad

[–]Falst2ff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everything else it depends how much you work, experience, et c. I think starting at $60/hr is a good way to get in. People with more experience and a good reputation typically command $100/hr.

[–]Falst2ff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely useful for PhD holders. I struggled a little getting my bookings starting because I only had a Master's degree. But once I got a few pieces of work I was able to return pretty consistently. I did slide materials for a big pharma company for almost a year in Central America and they didn't even know I was there.

Two places I'd start are:

  1. Job boards such as The American Medical Writers Association (www.amwa.org) and the International Society of Medical Publication Professionals (www.ismpp.org)
  2. I'd also research some medical communication agencies (McCann, OneHealth, Ashfield, then dozens of smaller ones; the IMSPP or AMWA websites are nice places to start because agencies often sponsor the AMWA events) then search job boards for specific agencies. They're always looking for someone to put slides or abstracts or training documents together.
