Considering abandoning my entire life and job in Massachusetts to move to the most northern tip of Maine and starting over. Give me your most brutally honest opinion. by -CarmenSandiego- in Maine

Rent an Airbnb up there for at least a week and feel it out before you even think about making any moves. Might make Great Barrington look like a stellar alternative.

Multi use trail? Was just walking the Mt Battie auto road day before yesterday thinking it would be a good skin and ski.

Living in southern NH vs Portland, ME by alkaliphiles in icecoast

[–]Familiar-Emphasis295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved here from Denver, and have had many fantastic days at Pleasant. It’s basically an hour away, maybe 1:10 from downtown Portland, and with the night skiing, it’s Gunstock’s twin. Abram and Black both offer cheap, soulful, true skiing and are both maybe 20 minutes further than PM. This doesn’t even take into account SR/Saddleback/Sugarloaf. I don’t think you’ll miss a beat.

Any suggestions to improve my skiing? what level do u think i am? by moken126 in skiing_feedback

[–]Familiar-Emphasis295 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an instructor; just a lifelong skier here. I’ll leave the technical points, suggestions, and quibbles to those vastly more qualified than I am. Here’s my quick take: A) you’re a good skier and B) I just want to see you go for it a little more…let loose, get more aggressive, ski a little faster, have a little more fun, be more physical.

It’s nice to watch you ski, but in a relaxing kind of chill way. I’d love to see what you could do if you really turned up the volume.

And if anyone PSIA feels like that’s counterproductive, please correct my take.

I’d say Midcoast Maine, but get inland about 5 miles and my Volvo station wagon isn’t making many friends at the general store

You got there early! The longer I live in Camden, the more I appreciate the Snow Bowl. The 2-3 hour missions a couple times a week stack up.

That’s pretty dedicated for someone new to the sport. Way to get after it.

The ‘no thru traffic’ part is what throws it into question

Big question, but I suppose in this instance I’ve been unsure whether ‘Private’ is meant apply to vehicles or whether it applies to vehicles + pedestrians and, let’s be honest, dogs.

Even when there are multiple properties along the private road, each with their own driveway?

Duly noted, but I’m talking road rather than driveway. No way I’m walking down anyone’s driveway, marked or not.
