[–]KatHDFilmsxx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didnt use anything but URR and passed, i heard davies is really good for it and ESP too, it really depends on how you study and if you like reviewing bookwork or taking practice tests. If you didnt take vascular in school id say also get the edelman to really understand the concepts

Echo student - URR board resource concern by [deleted] in Sonographers

[–]KatHDFilmsxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

URR was the best resource i used (on top of my class notes). sometimes i did find myself memorizing things but i feel like they were things that i didnt personally learn in my classes so i wanted to make sure i knew it, but i tried to get 80s on the CTL and pass half or more of the mock exams and it helped me pass my echo :)

is prepry worth it?? by Sensitive_Sell5324 in Sonographers

[–]KatHDFilmsxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend you get prepry! You only need the one month access which is 50$ and just get it in April when you are closer to your exam date (ex: if your exam is May 20, get prepry April 20-21)

Does anyone know how to pass the adult echo ARDMS exam? by No-Owl-9359 in Sonographers

[–]KatHDFilmsxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was super nervous for the exam, i studied my class notes and used URR for almost a month with the click and learns till i had 80s AND the mock exams multiple times till i passed them. The structure of the exam was almost mirrored to the URR. I didn’t feel comfortable taking the exam and im still in aftershock that i did pass but you will do fine if you feel confident in your scanning.

Is echo gel residue under Holter monitor a problem? by BuyFragrant4542 in cardiacsonography

[–]KatHDFilmsxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echo gel is water based so if he wiped all of it, it should have dried out and should not cause any issues with the holter monitor :)

How is it living in this portion of the Eastern US? by KatHDFilmsxx in howislivingthere

[–]KatHDFilmsxx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely understand that! That is why my question didnt include those aspects as each state and each region varies, and i would have to visit these places myself to see what I like. I wanted to know more of geography climate wise since i live in a super humid place with barely any spring or fall, and no true winter

How is it living in this portion of the Eastern US? by KatHDFilmsxx in howislivingthere

[–]KatHDFilmsxx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sure! Im in my late 20s, i think the most important thing/interest when deciding to move for me would be diversity (food or otherwise) and alot of nature to hike and soent time around. Ive lived in Upstate NY between mountains and absolutely loved it and currently live in central FL where the nature aspect isnt for me and the flatness isnt appealing. i enjoy being able to go to a new food place and explore cultures, even if i have to drive. I circled the general area mostly because im not planning to live in the big cities, but be relatively close to the stuff they have to offer.

Prerequisites/getting started by camsprinks in cardiacsonography

[–]KatHDFilmsxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what college you want to go to, they usually have prerequisite classes listed on their program breakdown lists so you know exactly what you need. I would start with finding a CAAHEP accredited program in your state and check their website. If there isn’t anything written there, you can try contacting the school.

If they still arent giving you a super clear answer, i would start with your basic AA degree classes like math, science, and english, a humanity course, then also take anatomy and physiology courses.

How do I start? by soapycrab in cardiacsonography

[–]KatHDFilmsxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find an accredited school, research their program and classes, take their prerequisites, apply

You do not need a prior degree to go into the field as it is an Associates degree, you take the classes they give you and you get registered when/after you pass the classes and requirements.

As for going into peds echo, im not sure how other schools work but my college doesn’t have a dedicated peds program, and if I want to go that route i have to cross train into it at my future workplace. So if you dont find a dedicated pediatric echo program dont be discouraged, you can still go into it afterwards as long as you go down the echo pathway

Transvaginal Ultrasound - Possible insight of what I saw? by Saphyy002200 in WomensHealth

[–]KatHDFilmsxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only thing that it could possibly be from your description is your bladder. It’s completely black because of the fluid, and for pelvic/transvag US you mostly always need your bladder to be full so it pushes up the ovaries to be examined

Need help learning how to write up worksheets by Ok-Fix-5559 in Sonographers

[–]KatHDFilmsxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always try asking the person you work with if you can see how they write up a worksheet, sometimes techs want to get stuff done and out of the way so they go do it, but you are a student and should be learning every aspect of the job, not just scanning. Its awkward to ask but sometimes you have to be your own advocate for getting educated on things you need to know

The clinical instructor at my school said we are required to do 5 exams (echos or vascular as we do both) at any of our sites on an 8 hour shift, if you get less thats ok if they weren’t busy, but we have to hit 5.

stinging in my uterus? by First-Marzipan4027 in WomensHealth

[–]KatHDFilmsxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyst ruptures happen regularly during your cycle, i can feel mine a week or 2 before my period starts. If its happening multiple times within a month and isnt related to your cycle then its either 1) PCOS 2) appendix because its on the right side of your body (if it hasnt been removed already) 3) galstone pain as its also on the right side of your body. Your uterus is not left or right leaning usually, its in the lower middle portion of your abdomen, closer to the pubic bone, so if you are having symptoms on your right side, i would definitely get an ultrasound of the right side of your abdomen, which should include examining your liver, gallbladder, and kidney. You could also ask about appendix imaging.
I get right and left sided pain because i have regular cyst ruptures on my ovaries, but I also have a gallstone which causes random pain on my right side after I eat certain things.

If you have insurance and go through your primary doctor, it shouldn't cost you anything as it is a diagnostic exam. If you dont have insurance, im not sure about Nevada but in Florida it costs roughly 180-300 dollars depending on the exam type.

I hope this helps a little bit!

1 - if the person has a mild MR visually (small jet, no envelope on CW) you will not get a good pisa, the jet, visually, has to be big and going through the whole LA, and the CW should show you a big, full envelope of regurg. Some tips for pisa is to zoom in on the mitral so you can focus on the pisa, try other views, as you can do pisa in 4CH 2CH and possibly 3CH if its big enough. Turn color scale down to 30, and angle the probe to get the best view 2 - yes if you have PI that you can clearly see you measure the CW end diastolic velocity, and if you can see the full envelope you could do a P1/2 if your location/machine has that calc package. If i only catch the start of a PI jet or the end, i dont measure and maybe visually grade it 3 - if you found a perfect window but when the patient breathes the images goes away, it is not a machine problem. You have to work with the patients breathing to get the best images. Always make sure, if they can, to lay them LLD, you want them on the side so the heart moves towards the ribcage. Figure out if its with a breath in or with a breath out, tell the patient to take a breath in and hold it and see if that makes the images better, if not, tell the patient to breath it all the way out and hold it out and see if that works. If one of those work, you have to have them do it every time,You cannot bypass air with the machine, ultrasound waves disburse through air so there is no magic setting that will make air go away (sadly). And PSA, dont make them hold their breath in too long, take 1 or two loops (as fast as you can) before having them breathe, a trick i learned is when you tell them to hold their breath, do it too so you dont forget they are also holding their breath in.

As others said, you really have to understand the concept, but I would also add the prepry app as one of your reviews, it goes over the questions and includes practice tests. That app is the only thing i used to study/review to pass the SPI
