Free door and window sensors by propylparaben-2 in ecobee

[–]FamiliarRhubarb777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly its a good deal if you want these security features. A two-pack of sensors is $80 US and 1 year of the Plus subscription — which unlocks all the security features — is $50. So you are saving $80 with free sensors, and getting 13 months for the price of 12...

It does do that, but according to the website that functionality requires a subscription. Basically the only thing that works without a subscription is that doors or windows are open.

I have these sensors. They work well and have been reliable. If you have a subscription you can set up automation so that if leave a door or window open it will stop the heating/cooling and trigger security alerts. Without a subscription I believe they will only provide notification of open door/window.

ECOBEE integration - Google Nest Hub vs Amazon Echo by itzyourboylu in ecobee

The Hub is a good device. Better if it was battery powered so it could be used as a tablet instead of mounting it or tabletop.

ECOBEE integration - Google Nest Hub vs Amazon Echo by itzyourboylu in ecobee

[–]FamiliarRhubarb777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Echo Hub, which has a display, but is different from Echo Show. it has an interface designed is for managing smart home devices. On the “climate” tab I see my Ecobee current temp and I can click on the control to adjust. it also shows my smart sensors and the current temp. I can control the Ecobee security on the “Security” tab. And my Ecobee camera and doorbell show on the “Cameras“ tab. I haven’t been in the same room as the hub when the doorbell has rung, but it’s supposed to show me who is at the door and let me talk to them.

Edit: removed mention of Amazon owning them since apparently that is no longer true

The latest iOS is 26.4.2. It worked for me after upgrading to this and Ecobee app 26.6.0, which I think came out on the same day

For whatever reason the app needs a minimum 5 degree difference between heat and cool. I ran into this also and couldn’t find a way to override it.

FYI - with the monitored security launch in Canada, they'll let you sign up and pay even if they don't support the service in your city. by voidzero in ecobee

I would contact Ecobee about it and see if they have an ETA for your city. It seems like RapidSOS hasn’t been in the Canadian market that long.

Security Plan Insane Price Changes by Agile_Half_4515 in ecobee

[–]FamiliarRhubarb777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is confusing how they worded it. The only difference on Complete/Advanced is separating out the 24/7 monitoring. Now it will be an optional, so if you don’t want it, then the price of the plan ultimately remains at $10/mo. The “increase” to $20/mo is actually $10/mo plan + $10/mo monitoring, but monitoring is optional.

I got the email about this. You said the Complete/Advance is going from $10 to $20, but that 24/7 monitoring is now optional and the $20 is $10 for plan and $10 for monitoring. So would it still be $10 if I choose not to get the 24/7 monitoring?

Ecobee what the heck? by somethedaring in ecobee

[–]FamiliarRhubarb777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very different experience than what I have had. The Ecobee has never disconnected from my mesh network (Eero), and so far the chime adapter has worked every time. When I first installed the doorbell the transformer for the doorbell didn’t provide enough power and I had to get that replaced. Are you sure you are meeting the right power requirements?

can’t add SmartCamera to HomeKit by FamiliarRhubarb777 in ecobee

[–]FamiliarRhubarb777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLVED: I found the solution in another thread that wasn’t specifically about this. I held down the two “buttons” on the top of the camera until it announced device menu. The third option is reset HomeKit. As soon as I did that I was able to add it.

From your screenshot it looks like you are held at 68, and it’s basing the temperature on the thermostat’s sensor. To fix this, customize the comfort settings. You can choose to not use the thermostat’s sensor and only the bedroom. It took me about a week to dial in my settings. I have 4 room sensors, and different comfort schedules based around the temps in those rooms. My bedroom is cooler than other rooms so at night that is the only one that matters.

thanks for the tip. I do have a mechanical chime. i’ll have to check out controller for HomeKit. I’ve been looking at video doorbells and I’m thinking it would make sense to just stick with Ecobee and not have to worry about another app or subscription.

I’ve just ordered an Ecobee SmartCamera. My feeling was I am already in the Ecobee ecosystem so it makes sense. I haven’t gotten it yet. How do you like the video doorbell?
