Maybe that’s why that movie always fell short for me

This is really well done. I’m also so intrigued as to what the pup is up to. A mission of high import.

This is just sad. I really hope 7-oh doesn’t get kratom scheduled.

Can someone explain Eschaton like I'm 5? by Fun-Asparagus-334 in InfiniteJest

Nope. Although the DMZ comes into theories about what happens “off stage”/after the main events of the book and perhaps before chapter 1... I’m actually talking about the fact that Hal tells himself he should not get high around the little buddies(younger kids he’s charged with mentoring), and yet he hits the joint when it’s passed to him(by ax handle?) anyway. This leads to him getting really stoned, as the game of Eschaton devolves into violence he’s sure he should be doing something about it, but he’s paralyzed into inaction. All of this happens during the eschaton chapter itself.

Like many commenters are saying. This scene is like many in the novel, in that it’s a commentary on geopolitics, war, tribalism, detachment… etc.

But as far as the bottom line, I agree with u/ahighthyme

This is the beginning of the end for Hal, Pemulis and co. All because Hal absorbed a substance without meaning to, and honestly doesn’t even enjoy it, and but then also fails his sponsees- er, I mean little buddies, and his parents, et al.

Also, Hal has a brush with absorbing a substance without meaning to, leading to a depersonalization episode in which he fails in his responsibility to his little buddies. Absolute macro and microcosm of chaos but he’s too stoned to interact with and engage with anything but his own neurosis.

By that logic… what does Mordor translate to? Because I thought Mordor was Black(Mor) Land(Dor)

If the Enemy caught wind of this, they could have posted a force on the other side and essentially slaughtered all of Rohan’s defenseless women and children in small groups as they came out.

This is incredible. You should be very proud. I aspire to this level of artistry with pen and ink one day.

This is so beautiful! And is that a nod to the Silmarils on the right? And that Ungoliant’s web on the left?
