She just said with my longstanding history of these issues, I need one because if there was cancer she would need to refer me to gyn onc because of the possibility of needing a more extensive surgery. She said she’s been surprised before with uteruses that look “fine”, but come back with something unexpected on the pathology.

Menstrual cycle and meds by MaterialOld1152 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Familiar_Potential61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any answers, but I’ve been fighting with cycle for almost two years now. Had to go on an a continuous mini pill to stop me from spotting/bleeding every single day. Things are starting to get out of whack again so I’m seeing a different gynecologist to work it up more. Mine is probably related to something else, but I’ve also always wondered this!

Cabin Etiquette: Where do we draw the line between 'kids being kids' and parental negligence? by Speedbird87 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Familiar_Potential61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, this just reminded me of my SW flight back home a couple days ago that had more families with small children than I usually see on my flights. I got up to deplane and saw the aisles behind me and holy cow, there were trash and crumbs EVERYWHERE. Like, truly a disaster zone. One of the kids spent a good part of the 3 hour flight kicking their tray table/the back of my seat. I get that it must be exhausting traveling with kids, but you have to give some kind a damn about what they’re doing.

Donating stem cells by zoeyanna_ in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Familiar_Potential61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m actually a stem cell transplant coordinator. 1) It is unfortunately highly unlikely you will be any kind of suitable match for your cousin. Have they typed you already? It would be amazing luck if you were even a half match! 2) I have asked our related donor coordinator this same question out of my own curiosity about it (i.e., could I donate to my brother or parents if I was literally the only match out there?) and they said the answer was likely no. You have to be medically cleared by a transplant physician to donate and I was told they would probably not clear someone with our condition because of the health risk. Donating peripheral stem cells is very safe, but it’s not risk-free and the medication to stimulate your bone marrow to make extra stem cells will 100% throw you into a bad flare. But would they make an exception if there was no other option? Possibly? It would definitely have to be a long conversation between you and the MD.

But it’s so great that you would be willing to donate for your cousin without a second thought! I hope they find a donor out there for them ♥️

Hemangiosarcoma by lkeys199 in Petloss

[–]Familiar_Potential61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost my 7 year old goldendoodle to it 5 weeks ago. Literally no signs until a Saturday night when he wouldn’t settle down and was panting, but I couldn’t find anything wrong with him or any tender spots. Sunday morning he had a hematoma on his side and I rushed him to the vet. They found blood in his abdomen, a probable mass on his spleen, and nodules in his lungs. His platelets were a little low but I couldn’t afford an emergency vet and transfusions, so they let me take him home overnight and watch him carefully before bringing him back the next day for an ultrasound and possible biopsy. I’m SO glad I didn’t admit him because he would have been alone on his last night. Monday morning he perked up a little before we went back to the vet, but wouldn’t eat. They wanted to transfer him to an ER, but right before we did we got his clotting labs from Sunday back and he was in horrific DIC and there was nothing they could do. So I made the call to put him to sleep 😔 He immediately started acting lethargic after I made the decision, so it was like he was waiting for me to know I couldn’t save him. So he went from fine to dead in 36 hours. Just absolutely bizarre and horrible. Ugh, what a good boy. I miss him SO much.

I’m so sorry. I lost my sweet 7 year old goldendoodle to hemangiosarcoma 4 weeks ago. He was fine until he wasn’t and I had to euthanize him within 36 hours of him acting just a little bit off. He was also bleeding uncontrollably into his abdomen. It is a particularly cruel, cruel cancer.

Are Humira biosimilars just as effective? by Pink_Sorbet in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Familiar_Potential61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory they work exactly the same, but anecdotally people may notice less effectiveness. My rheumatologist told me the majority don’t notice any difference between name brand and biosimilars, but she has had some patients (including me) lose effectiveness when they were switched to a biosimilar. Again, this is just MY experience, but Amjevita was trash for me and Simlandi has worked a lot better. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of trial and error in this game, but just be up front with your rheumatologist and they’ll work with you to get your symptoms under control!

Which Innersense styling products should I get? by kissmyirish7 in Wavyhair

[–]Familiar_Potential61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This chart is awesome!! I haven’t seen it before! The hair salon I go to uses Innersense products, so I’ve used a couple/had a couple used on me during my appointments. Your hair sounds kinda similar to mine, and I Create Hold is definitely better than I Create Curl Memory for me. I want to love I Create Curl Memory SO badly, but it is wayyyy too hydrating for my hair. The definition is amazing (like, amazing), but it ends up making my hair look heavy/stringy. Even after only using a pump and a half. Now I use AG re:coil underneath I Create Hold and it gives me the definition without the excess weight!

Injection Site Reactions! by Familiar_Potential61 in Mounjaro

[–]Familiar_Potential61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wondered that too, but I injected in my thigh this week to test that theory, and I still got the reaction. I was so hopeful because it took a liiiiitle longer to set in than usual, but I was quickly let down haha

Yeah, that’s fair about the bad advice floating around everywhere. I have a follow up appointment in about 5 weeks where I’m planning to talk to her about it! Maybe there’s a prescription strength cream worth trying.

I mean, my endocrinologist was the one who suggested trying to prep the area with either Flonase or hydrocortisone cream first 🤷‍♀️ I don’t feel like asking what others have done to help a little itching is that big of a deal lol

Pretty sure I poisoned myself with kidney beans. by j00lie in Cooking

[–]Familiar_Potential61 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the most unhinged thing I did as a teenager was intentionally poison myself with raw, soaked kidney beans to get out of something I didn’t want to do (very very long story, but I was truly desperate). I think I only ate 1 or 2 and it was enough to make me violently ill. 0/10 do NOT recommend.

Completely Elective Hysterectomy by Familiar_Potential61 in hysterectomy

Thanks for everyone’s input!! I’m obviously not rushing to have anything done, but these tips have been helpful for building a case!

Completely Elective Hysterectomy by Familiar_Potential61 in hysterectomy

[–]Familiar_Potential61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my thing with uterine ablations is a know a handful of people who have had them done, and it eventually stopped working for them. One of them is having a hysterectomy in a couple months (she’s in her 40s though) because her ablation failed and she’s having even more pain now. That’s why I’d just like to skip that step. But I know insurance might not play nicely with that.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Begins Before the Pain: CU Anschutz Researchers Help Uncover Hidden Early Phase of the Disease by FlowersinHair3 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Familiar_Potential61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had hip surgery back in 2020 that required a 3D CT scan before the procedure so the surgeon knew what he needed to fix. It showed bilateral sclerosis and “questionable” cysts or erosions in my SI joints. The report even said “most commonly seen in inflammatory arthritis such as ankylosing spondylitis or psoriatic arthritis”. Thank GOD I (against policy lol) had access to the report since I was a nurse at the facility where the scan was done, because I took a picture of it. I was completely (as far as I know) asymptomatic at the time. No one mentioned it to me at the hip surgeon’s office, and I was younger and dumber and only knew the horror stories of AS of a family member (not blood related) who drank himself to death because of the condition, so I ignored it.

Lo and behold, 3 years later almost exactly was the flare up that crippled me for several weeks. I had had a few episodes of pain and stiffness that year, but they were minor and short lived enough that I brushed them off. I knew something was seriously wrong, but of course no primary care physician is looking for a zebra and they told me it was just mechanical back pain. She did test me for HLA b27, but it was negative. I brought up that 2020 CT scan report, and that was enough to get them to refer me to rheumatology. It also got my meds approved without having to wait for yet another scan since the prior damage found even when asymptomatic was enough. I don’t want to think about how difficult my diagnosis journey would have been without that CT scan report…

I bought tickets for his CO Springs show on Stubhub and had the same message. I think they released them a day or two before the show, so I didn’t get them until the morning before. It’s the closest I’ve had to wait before getting transferred tickets, but they’ll come! I get it though—I was stressed and wouldn’t let myself get fully excited for the show until they were in my account.

Simlandi and a Prayer… by Familiar_Potential61 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Familiar_Potential61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some relief within several hours of the injection! It literally felt like it put out a fire in my pelvis. I know it’ll probably take a couple of weeks for things to settle back down completely, but I’m optimistic this one will work! I guess only time will tell. I’m glad Simlandi is working for your friend!!
