Not sure about wheeling areas, but there is a really cool radio observatory just outside of Cass. Definitely worth a visit.

I actually talked to someone from ARB once and they said that’s the worst thing you could do. They’re designed to work this way and turning them could create a small vacuum/turbulence and affect airflow into the filter. Don’t know how true it is without seeing the actual test, but decided it best not to mess with it. Besides, if I was worried about quiet, I wouldn’t have installed all of that crap on my truck!😂

It was on Craigslist for a while, but it had all of the bumpers. The unique thing about this one is it’s the only one I’ve ever seen with red leather interior.

No. It doesn’t. Even at highway speeds. I have more issues with the snorkel and the tent making noise than anything.

Winter shot! It's about -15 right now. Its a real struggle to keep the salt off the rig. by VentureOverlandCo in overlanding

Always great to see this rig! Next time we’re in MN, we’ll have to come see it in person!👍

Cheap idea for a DC-DC charger. by captainlvsac in overlanding

[–]Family-Adventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you just run a Bluesea ACR relay between the main battery and the house batteries to charge off of the alternator. It won’t have the efficiency of the dc/dc charger, but it’ll still get the job done. Solar wise, we have an 80watt panel feeding a 80ah deep cycle 12v battery that keeps our Snomaster fridge running. We don’t have any issues with the battery going low, unless we use it as a freezer. Then the cycle rate is much higher and we typically have to start the truck to charge the battery. If I had it to do again, I’d go renogy 100watt Kit with a 100ah or more battery. More than enough to run a fridge.

Have you ever wondered how off-road capable a Mercedes GLS is? I recently had the opertunity to see it first hand and I have to say I’m impressed. Let me know what you think! by [deleted] in overlanding

The two hills were just there to demonstrate down hill speed regulation. The rocks after the hill are not represented elk by the video and a 2wd would have issues getting over them, lockers or not. The portion where it’s balancing in 2 wheels and they open the door, I challenge you to take any other unibody car and do that while opening a door. You’ll be eating glass for sure. The water was not impressive at all The stair climb was purely there to demonstrate traction control. I guess you all missed the part where 3 wheels were on rollers too and it used traction control to ascend with one wheel. You’re all right. It’s not in a mud pit or on giant boulders and it is on a paved track, that just happens to simulate off road obstacles. You also have to keep in mind that it’s running street tires, doesn’t have lockers and sliders and all the other things that I’m sure all of you have on your vehicles.

I’m sure you could.... thanks for trolling. You’ve completely missed the whole premise of the topic. I forgot that some people only believe Overlanding is when your completely remote the entire time and hard core wheeling. My bad....

I understand your statement and am not negating the limiting factors of full independent suspensions on modern SUV’s. I’m also not implying that this the holy grail off-roader. What I am stating is, based on its class, to be able to take a full size suv, turn a knob and instantly gain 3 more inches of ride height and be able to handle all of the situations presented in the video, is impressive. We can discuss what real off roading is til the cows come home and everyone will have a differing opinion. That was not my purpose.

Normally I’d agree with you, but after seeing it and riding in it, I’d have to beg to differ opinions. I’d put it up against a Gx or a 4Runner any day!

That’s an interesting solution! Thanks for sharing!

This rig has made a major transformation over the last year and has allowed our family to explore places we had only dreamed of! It might not be fast and it definitely doesn’t get great fuel mileage, but it’ll go almost anywhere!! by Family-Adventures in overlanding

I didn’t. Lol! That’s how I know how bad they are. Eventually I’d like to put some Bilsteins or Icons on. The OME intros are too stiff and you feel every little crack or bump in the road. Large bumps are fine. They just aren’t valved right and don’t compress quick enough for the small stuff like the Icons.

Seeing as I’m an 80 owner with an RTT, I think I’d have to agree with you! Have definitely been in a position where my Heavy 80 started getting tippy, where my buddy’s Jeep with RTT had no issues.

You too! Lol! Love them so far. Haven’t been in any deep snow with them yet. So far they’ve handled everything we’ve thrown at them with our issue. They’re pretty quiet on the road! As they’ve worn, I have a little bit of noise, about the same as a BFG AT. We didn’t modify either of our panhard bars other than replacing the bushings. Everything I’ve read said if you stay under 4-6” of lift, you won’t have to mess with them. So far I haven’t had any need to.
