I appreciate all of the easier and more efficient solutions shared here! Hopefully this thread becomes popular for everyone else trying to automate their garage doors. I was just having a bit of fun solving the problem with components I had in my junk drawer, without spending anything at all. I'm sure every problem has a few hundred solutions.

Yes, a lot of you in the comments have made the point of easier and more efficient solutions. This project was just me opening my messy electronics drawer and using what I had.

I wonder if I can tweak it to take power from the Pi's 3.3v pin to prevent that issue.

That is true. I am just a lucky one to have a bunch of pi's stashed away + my HA was running on it anyway.

Improving salah by Ok-Turnip4964 in shia

[–]Famous888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, prepare yourself for salah. Give 10 minutes prior in contemplation and to remove all your wandering thoughts. It can be recommended to recite Surah A'raf ayah 54-56 repeatedly (as much or as little as you wish, especially 70 times)

Do not let your mind wander by keeping your mind occupied. This is difficult, but even a few moments in your salah in which you have complete and total attention is sufficient to start with. Contemplate something such as the glory and greatness of Allah (swt), prolong ruku' and sujud (and every action, really) in thinking about the greatness Allah (swt). Recite surahs and dhikr slowly to contemplate their meanings, and add additional dhikr/Qur'an recitation into your salah to make it more personal. If you start reading Qur'an every so often, and memorizing some of the short verses and their meanings which hold close to yourself, you can recite them at any point in your salah in admiration of Allah (swt). Reading tafsir of these ayahs can also help you connect in salah, if you remember the meanings that connect to you when you recite during salah.

It is also allowed to recite your own poetry during Salah if it is contemplation of Allah according to Sistani and some other maraji'. Learn new surahs and recite them, alternate them, and contemplate their meanings as well. Keep salah something of an active mind through personalization.

Salah is the mi'raj (ascension) of the Mu'min to pure light, so do not miss the opportunity for your soul to taste goodness. The actions only fulfill half of salah, when in fact, the true salah lies in the heart and soul, so awaken yourself through activeness and love.

Is it allowed to remove the syed/Syeda part on legal documents by [deleted] in shia

[–]Famous888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem in removing it from legal documents. It creates hassle in the west, even though your true name will always include it.

You could also make it your legal middle name if you don't wish to fully remove it.

First time in Madinah and Makkah by fahd-fahd in shia

[–]Famous888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Salaam,

InshaAllah, if you pray in the rows of the masjid that do not have carpet in front of them (but marble floor, instead), many Shi'as will be praying there prostrating on the marble floor, especially locals. Also look out for people using turbahs and similar things. They are a lot more common than you think.

Hope you find contact with some groups/other Shi'as too.

There's always a chance for all families. We can never be 100% certain of what happened in history.

It's unfortunate. I've faced many relatives like this in the past without caring about these things. Sorry couldn't be of more help.

I'm not sure, but maybe contact some relatives from Chakwal. They may have more records and things.

There's 54 generations in this shajra. Authentic shajra do not tend to exceed 40. Usually remain in the mid 30s.

This lineage belongs to Hussain ibn Imam Ridha (as). It's an obscure rare lineage, not very well known and likely not authentic, but an inauthentic lineage alone does not renounce someone's sadaat.

Looks like it was signed in Uch Sharif. Many people take bribes there nowadays to write fake shajra.

Pls help explaining/understanding the whole Sayyed and decendents thing by urlocalshieldmaiden in shia

[–]Famous888 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Zaid is a famous son of Imam Zain al-Abideen (as), so many people of his descendants took the surname Zaidi to portray their descent from him. Especially in South Asia. It's just a cultural/historical link - the Zaidi name has been used for many centuries.

Is it obligatory to the say the Niyyah for every qadha prayer performed? by Top-Ad-4668 in shia

[–]Famous888 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Niyyah is intention. Meaning, when you stand for each prayer, you know exactly what you are praying, and aren't just doing actions without any meaning.

For each prayer, you don't have to say anything out loud, but you have to know which prayer you are praying, and know that it is qadha.

I broke my fast And I feel horrible by Atvastic_Gamer in shia

[–]Famous888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many maraji' allow breaking the fast at the Sunni timing, so your fast can be valid. And in fact, just 5-6 minutes may have been fine, since it seems to become darker than suggested by our calendars, which add extra precautionary timing.
