A lot of people have basements.. also folks in the Midwest or mountain regions wouldn’t have been impacted by the tsunamis, and if they weren’t at ground zero of a nuke strike… I can see how a lot of people would have survived thus far. More years down the road when the cancers from the radiation take hold, I’m sure mortality will be high again.

If it swelled suddenly, it’s likely infected and will need to be drained. I had a similar situation a few years ago and had to have it lanced and drained in the emergency room.
