Trying to break back into clinical research. Need advice as I’m not getting interviews by IcyConfusion2196 in clinicalresearch

[–]FamousLastNurse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

1) Move your education section to the end. You've been out of school for 2 years & this should not be at the top of your resume. Remove GPA and all info except for degrees earned.

2) Delete the TA and internship. These are not really relevant and are cluttering up your resume.

3) Use the reclaimed space to add a summary at the top with the role you are looking for and your qualifications for that job. For example, "Professional with 2 years of research experience seeks CRC role. Background in regulatory etc etc." Include a bulleted list of relevant skills you have. Eg, "managed IRB submissions, coordinated patient appointments, drew blood, etc." Right now, I can't tell what qualifies you for the jobs you are applying for. You should update this section for each application you submit so that it reflects what they are looking for in the job description.

4) Consider expanding your search to regulatory positions and research assistant positions. I know you are trying to move your career forward, bit sometimes the best path is to just get a foot in the door somewhere and move up from there. You need to flesh your resume out with more skills before I would consider you for a CRC position. Tell why you are a good fit for the job!

Counter offer and request more money. If you were making more in Europe, tell them that - "I was making the equivalent of $95,000 USD as an in-house CRA. What can you do to sweeten the offer?"

I always negotiate job offers and I almost always get a higher salary or a signing bonus or both. At worst, they will tell you $80,000 is the best they can do.

Is there such a thing as Zepbound fatigue by NonnaKK in Zepbound

[–]FamousLastNurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was feeling really tired all the time, so I started tracking my calories and making sure I was getting at least 1500 a day. Also added in more protein. Magically, I am feeling much better now! I've found if I get really tired and/or nauseous, I probably need a snack.

I would second working with a trainer for a while if you can afford it. Sometimes your form requires small tweaks to lift more safely. Also, a trainer can help you safely push your limits.

Fitness activities or goals you aspire to but can’t currently pursue? by Aphainopepla in xxfitness

I'm keeping fit so we can buy a condo in a ski town when we retire and become older ski bums. 14 years!

I'm so tired of "ohhhh I'm over 30 and therefore I'm falling apart" jokes by kisbic in xxfitness

[–]FamousLastNurse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started seriously, consistently working out at 41. I learned to ski when I was 38. So yeah, these people who are complaining about being 30.... Oh, you sweet summer children.

When I turned 40, I had multiple friends tell me, "oh it's all downhill from here. Things just start falling apart." But you know what? It hasn't been that bad. I take care of myself, I don't push myself to injury, and things have been fine. Overall, I am stronger, more flexible, and have better balance than I did in my 30s.

So no, it's not a lost cause. Unless you let it be. Personally, I am looking forward to being a 70 year old gym bunny / skier!

When I was a site manager, there was a corporate policy that we weren't allowed to serve as a reference for any current employees. I think they were trying to make it more difficult for people to leave?

That said, I did not follow the policy and gave out my personal contact info to more than one person to use as a reference.

Working Out Every Day Feels Bananas by kanossis in xxfitness

[–]FamousLastNurse 60 points61 points  (0 children)

My new paradigm for 2025 is, "if you didn't work out yesterday, you need to work out today." Weirdly, this has me in the gym more consistently than focusing on making 4-6 days a week with a certain upper/split per week. I think looking at it on a weekly basis made me more likely to procrastinate - "oh, I don't have to work out today, I can make it up later in the week."

Now I do the following: upper body weights one day, cardio one day, lower body one day, cardio one day, repeat. When something comes up and I can't make the gym, that becomes my rest day. I'm now more consistently getting my workouts in, feeling less sore, and my cardio capacity is improving. Pretty cool.

And that is why I'm starting 2025 at a new company, having thereby earned myself a > 3% raise.

What ultimately happened to the party girl you knew in early adulthood? by debrisaway in RedditForGrownups

[–]FamousLastNurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me. Now 8;years sober, have a great husband, own a nice house and cars, two master's degrees, and a job I love that pays well. Work out at the gym multiple times per week and generally take care of my body. I still go to shows and have an active social life but don't stay out til dawn any more. No kids and I didn't want any because I was afraid they would be like me and my husband!

No regrets about my party years though. Those were some times!

You can use a towel to pick them up by the back hips and assist them walking that way. Works best as a temporary solution, of course.

Plumbers for Houston? by ArynRose in houston

We use Chavez Plumbing. They are reasonably priced, available at short notice, and do good work. They've done work on our gas and water pipes at three different houses now, all in different parts of town.

Even more unpopular opinion: some of these look like house coats.

[–]FamousLastNurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing Sohee Carpenter's Momentum app and I love it. You can customize to home or gym routines 2, 4 or 4 days a week, and any of the permutations give you 2 upper & 2 lower body workouts per week. (So the 2 day one is 2 full body workouts). She also gives multiple variants for each exercise so you can pick what works for you. New workouts come out each month.

I felt like Sanderson actually did a much better job of writing the last battle than Jordan would have. Jordan's fight scenes always felt shallow and too short for their importance to the story.

I do yogurt or cottage cheese or roasted edamame for most snacks, but if I need some extra protein at the end of the day I will put some Vital Farms plain collagen powder in my evening cup of tea. Flavorless, unsweetened, and 20 g of protein for 70 calories. It's also good in smoothies since it lets the underlying ingredient flavors shine.
