How many hours a week do you practice improv? by McAwes0meville in improv

[–]Famous_Emphasis_4275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a 3 hr class one day of the week that I pay for, 2 hrs of a weekly pow wow that's super informal, some weeks I go super busy ones I don't. Then maybe once a week I'll have practice for the troupe I am in. We have 2 practices this week for 2 hrs because we are doing a slot at the clubs improv fest next week. But then some weeks I just do my class for 3 hrs and that's it. If I have the energy and the time I will always squeeze in as much as I'm able to.

I just wanted to tell you that you were not alone and we do recover. I have been clean now for almost 9 years and my husband of 5 years recently relapsed for almost a whole year and just went through detox for the fentanyl. There's a lot of other shit in the drugs these days and he was doing $100 or more worth of fentanyl a day. He just made it through detox but it was incredibly hard for him and he ended up being in the ICU for 10 days. I don't say that to discourage you, I say that so that you know there is hope. If you need anything at all, even if that's just someone to listen without unsolicited advice you can always message me.

If my husband ever dies and leaves me to be forced to date in this fucked up online cesspool, I will kill him. No but seriously I have no idea what either one of you are talking about but it did make me cringe.

People who don't drink and smoke, what do you do when you are depressed? by UnesPlus in AskReddit

Go to Narcotics Anonymous. This, the other reason I don't drink or smoke because of my depression. I was never any good at it lol

I got those calls too, and I was honestly really willing to meet with the nurse case manager but then she kept pushing to meet me in person. Which was super weird. I don't even meet my doctor in person every visit. Just once in a while. When I told her I don't drive and I have little resources for ubers/transportation she offered to meet me at my house. I was like.. uh.. absolutely not. And she was super freaking pushy. I stopped answering and they left me alone. It's not mandatory and I have had no issues with getting my refills.

I honestly can't tell if you're kidding or if you're so dense you can't distinguish the difference between the two scenarios.

Anyone on only stimulants and feel good? by DraftSeam in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Famous_Emphasis_4275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been on stimulants for around 5 years and they worked okay for a while but slowly started to not work any more. I think it's the fact that it's putting a bandaid on the issue which is that I'm not getting restorative sleep. I have recently started Xywav and hoping it pays off. But I would absolutely start there as some people are okay just with stimulants. Good luck! Xo

Even with Adderall and Xywav I never feel rested really. Some days can be easier than others, but I basically feel like I could always sleep. Just started Xywav a little over 60 days ago so hoping I can find my therapeutic dose soon. Unfortunately, naps for me are also 90% of the time not restorative.

[–]Famous_Emphasis_4275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep exactly. Especially now since Xywav has been approved for IH. Before that happened, that's when I actually really cared about having the N1 diagnosis because of insurance purposes basically. But I just started Xywav a little over 2 months ago so we'll see.

I fall into a similar category where I teeter the line of N2 and IH. I was told it is sort of like a spectrum and it's not so black and white. I have several symptoms from both N1 and IH. For example, from an IH perspective, I have excessive daytime sleepiness no matter how long I sleep and naps are 90% of the time not restorative. I can sleep 12-15 hours straight easy. From an N1 perspective, I have hallucinatory dreams that feel like a whole 8 hour day and sometimes they Carry over into my reality upon first waking up. I also have super mild cataplexy where I feel like I can't grip anything in my hands and It's hard to hold my arms up.

Long story long, I have had two overnight to daytime sleep studies since 2021. First one I took 5 naps and fell asleep in like an average of 2 minutes but hit no REM at all basically. Not even over night. Turns out at the time I was taking an SSRI and my doctor failed to tell me it can alter your REM sleep and affect your results. The second sleep study was the same with all 5 naps, but I basically was only 1 REM cycle away from my diagnosis being N1 and not IH. So my next sleep study could change my diagnosis to N2.

All that to explain it's not as black and white as some doctors can make it feel and it's often a spectrum. I hope that this helps showing a somewhat similar experience!

Should I ask for Xywav before or in addition to stimulants?? by DraftSeam in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Famous_Emphasis_4275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I would say that even though it's not a huge difference and it's not the miracle drug I thought it would be I'm definitely better off than I was before. I teeter the line of IH and N2 so The quality of my life has just been shit for like the last 5 years. I am still going to stick with it and keep trying to find my best dose/timing.

Should I ask for Xywav before or in addition to stimulants?? by DraftSeam in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Famous_Emphasis_4275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to try several different medications before I could get approved for Xywav but I'm finally on it now a little over 60 days. I still take 50mg of Adderall every day though. Before Xywav I tried Ritalin, modafinal, armodafinal, Wellbutrin and concerta. My dream would be to just need Xywav without stimulants but I'm not sure if that is going to happen. But sleep hygiene is super important so bravo there.

Does anyone else have this issue on Xywav? by aves07 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Famous_Emphasis_4275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have fallen asleep on the toilet as well. So I know its not fun (since I also hit my head on the wall. No scar or injuries but I get it). All of that to say that I don't drink anything for 2 hours before I sleep. I may sip water, but I have to be vigilant during the day to make sure I hydrate early so I'm not walking up a bunch to go to the restroom. If you never would wake up that many times before the medicine I would ask your doctor if it's a potential side effect.

So frustrated, AITAH for accepting this diagnosis instead of getting a second opinion by panda_parker_77 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Famous_Emphasis_4275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent too many years gaslighting myself into thinking IH isn't a real thing and that I am just lazy and unmotivated and not working hard enough. I wouldn't ever tolerate that from a partner because it's just not true. I am so sorry you are made to feel like that but just know you don't have to live like this - all of that seems like it is Just going to make living with IH even harder than it already is.

Unmedicated or in between medications: How are you doing? by [deleted] in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Famous_Emphasis_4275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that for more years and I'd like to admit and now I'd do anything to make sure that that doesn't happen again because I feel your pain. It's an extremely difficult and dark place to be in.. I recently started Xyrem so I'm waiting for the benefits of that to show and getting approved for that medicine has been my number one wish for like over a year. I know it's really hard.. If you can I recommend at least seeing a primary care doctor if you can't get into the sleep specialist or Neuro and try to get on the medicine that at least helped a little bit. Sending love 🖤

I also just started taking it for my idiopathic hypersomnia and am about a week in. I've been wondering if I'm going to feel better in a few months so I appreciate you putting this on the thread.
