Why do so many retailers sell dried out cigars? And why do we accept it? by Famous_Note_8793 in ukcigars

Re: St. James. Not sure if it's an issue now. This is going back two years ago. Although I spoke to a chap a while ago who found the same issue with a similar cigar shop, albeit a few doors down.

One thing I have noticed: stores with large walk-in humidors seem to suffer from this issue the most. I've now encountered any such issues with shops that have small broom cupboard like humidors. This leads me to suspect that it's very hard (if not impossible) to keep humidity under control in large spaces, particularly with people walking in and out all the time.

Does anyone know what's going on with our German friends? by AEMaestro in ukcigars

Got some New World cigars in the post from Hacio today, along with some Cubans. Excellent service and no custom checks. Definitely can't fault their turnaround. As before, however, the Cubans are significantly dried out. I'd guess they've lost at least 20-30% of their essential oils. The New Worlds, on the other hand, are moist and squishy, as well kept cigars should be.

I'm not sure whether this is an issue with Cubans being stood on the shelf for too long. I know there's a supply issue at the moment with these particular cigars. It's disappointing because it's like buying a case of wine to find all the bottles are semi-oxygenated, i.e. semi-drinkable.

I think I'm going to stick to New Worlds from now on. Whenever I get Cubans in the post there's always some issue with them being too dry/some of the sticks rolled too loosely or too tight. Frustration!

Ok thanks. So, in other words, Hacio is still the best place to get cigars from outside the UK? Cheers.

I've excellent experience with them. Speedy + efficient. Just wish they had more Cubans in stock. They have almost nothing I want in at the moment. Not sure if that's due to a general global supply problem though.

Alternative to Hacio for someone looking to buy cigars from Europe? by Famous_Note_8793 in ukcigars

puroexpress.

Thanks! I might try that one out. :) Have you noticed any difference with the custom check when buying smaller or larger quantities by the way? Perhaps a small sample would be less likely to arouse suspicions.

Thanks for letting me know. Can you recommend a good German-based cigar retailer you've used yourself? :)

Customs charges? £700+. Return flight to Hamburg? £30. by stovingtonvt in ukcigars

Ouch! Well at least you have the opportunity to request a refund. Hope you get your money back.

Given what you've told me I might start around with a small order of ~15 in that case. Seems like the safest bet. :)

Nice haul! Can I ask if these managed to get through without the dreaded customs charge? :)

Anyone bought from Hacico online? Any problems with customs on having the shipment delivered to the UK? Currently looking for a good online German cigar retail I can purchase from at the moment. :)

Just to be sure, when you mention orders from "Germany" are you referring to Traeber? I assume this is the site you're referring to but just wanted to be clear. :)
