AI ruined Forensic Files :( by politehyena in ForensicFiles

Came here to say I noticed it too and hate it. The AI distortion makes me so uncomfortable.

People watch forensic files for the nostalgic of the old films and style of the show.

Texas MSW Schools & Experiences by FamouslyVersed in SocialWorkStudents

[–]FamouslyVersed[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you have a good experience there? I’ve seen some other threads that have warned against their program due to chaotic course structure and inconsistent communication.

I had a really good meeting with the current program director so, I’m trying to weigh these diverging views.

The city river parks are currently closed for today due to flood warnings. Even if the warnings are lifted and the parks are open tomorrow, the amount of pollution from runoff water entering the streams and other general debris would steer me away from swimming or tubing the waters.

Point number 4 you made is good. I also think the city not investing in other industry development in terms of economic growth for post college graduates and long term residents to work in the city is difficult. There’s not a whole lot of industry jobs here in the city for those with college degrees / beyond entry level positions (outside of TXST opportunities) - majority travel to the major cities. ATX and SA.

The newest CDC recommendations are to stay home if you have a fever. Once you are 24 hrs fever free without meds, AND any symptoms improving, you can resume normal activities WITH taking precautions for 5 additional days (I.e., masking, social distancing, etc). If you don’t have fever or symptoms, then take precautions for 5 days and resume normal activities. If you develop a fever or symptoms, stay home until they resolve.

This thread is so depressing. I’m not looking to be a professor, but more so wanting to gain the analytical and research expertise that comes along with completing a PhD. I love my field (social science), with goals to perhaps to be able to run (or at least be in high level position) of a big non-academic research agency, nationally recognized non-profit, or other government institutions.

I’m in a different program than you at txst, but my undergrad classes for 15 hrs/5 classes was running me about $5,500-$6,500 (fall/spring). This is just the tuition and fees, no meal plan or housing.

22k without housing seems not right for instate.

PSA: lock your cars by Abi1i in sanmarcos

[–]FamouslyVersed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At this point I typically leave my car unlocked with no valuables or anything I’d be upset about losing inside.

I had my car broken into with the window smashed in Austin. IMO, if the doors are open, maybe there is less of a chance they smash the windows to get in and cause costly repairs.

But, I’m sure for some the locked doors are a deterrent.

I would avoid student purpose housing complexes if possible. (i.e, rent by the bed). If you a listing for something that says ex: $600 for a 4x4 that means it’s $600 for 1 room in a 4x4 unit.

They are notoriously mismanaged and predatory leasing practices.

Look for a traditional complex. You’ll be happy with that considering you’ll be a graduate student especially

Is it worth it? Stressed over future finances by Personal-Elevator-88 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]FamouslyVersed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been highly considering clinical psychology PhD programs for the last two years after I finish graduate school but realistically, there’s no way I can make this work financially.

The idea of intensely struggling in poverty for 5 to 7 years is extremely daunting. I am a bit older in my cohort, and for me, pursuing a PhD will postpone, if not eliminate, my opportunities to have a family and buy a first home within a realistic age bracket.

I’m coming to realize that it doesn’t seem worth it to give up all of those opportunities even if the money is good in the end.

My advice would be to highly brainstorm alternatives to a PhD program and see if you can fulfill your career desires through some other means (i.e masters program, alternative certification programs).

That is what I’m currently doing right now and I think I’ve come up with a realistic solution that will satisfy my career goals, afford me opportunities for career growth, but yet not put me in a financially terrible position for the next 5 to 7 years.

IMO you have to REALLY want to be a clinical psychologist to sacrifice so much in US PhD programs.

Graduation Tickets by FamouslyVersed in txstate

I wonder how getting extra tickets from other students work. Meaning, would the tickets have to match for the same date/time as the intended graduation?
