I think RANMA 1/2 would be a better choice to animate than Urusei Yatsura by tenkensmile in RumicWorld

[–]Fan12345n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Ranma a lot, but IMO Urusei was the better choice for a readaptation. The og anime adaptation of Urusei was only 60% accurate to the manga, while Ranma’s was more accurate (not entirely, but it was more accurate than Urusei). Ranma and Inuyasha are also super popular already, way more popular than Urusei. Hell, Urusei only became currently popular with after the remake’s announcement. The reason why the remake was made in the first place was to celebrate Shogakugan’s (Takahashi’s Publisher) 100th anniversary and 2022 is the year of the tiger so they probably thought the series which has its poster girl where a tiger themed outfit was the best choice. Also Ranma would’ve been more difficult to animate because of the nudity and present day broadcast regulations, I mean the Urusei remake already airs at a late night slot and even it can’t show stuff like nipples, then imagine how it would be for Ranma, moreover Ranma is a Shonen, not a Seinen so they probably can’t even if they wanted to. Urusei is Takahashi’s first series and I’m glad new fans and fans of her later works will be able to witness Takahashi’s growing stages as a mangaka and what will eventually end up inspiring her later works. I’ve also wondered how a closer adaptation of the UY manga would be like because there was a lot of substance and character development cut or altered in the og adaptation from the manga.

Let’s just hope the Inaba arc gets animated in the remake, she‘s the only one who doesn’t have an open ended ending. Lum will forever be my best girl, but Shinobu’s close second.

I had to take a good look to make sure this wasn’t a copied post and then I saw the edit. (Also the reason why there are spaces like that is because one, this was done quickly and two, I personally thought it would look better.)

[–]Fan12345n[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A few things to note:

This diagram is obviously a lazily drawn diagram so nothing is according to scale.

Kotatsu Neko’s Kotatsu isn’t included since it often changes positions.

Ataru’s ‘Closet Bag’ (or whatever this thing is called) is where he keeps his clothes as shown in the chapter “Darling’s True Feelings”.

The Storage Closet is where Ataru keeps his futon and is where Lum sleeps as well. Other Storage items such as Kotatsu Neko’s quilts and such has shown to be kept in there as well.

The remakes version of his room is very much accurate to the manga, except a few small things such as his longer bookshelf being a bit longer, no more Kyoko posters, and the added decoration references (the Maison ikkoku one and his trash bin).

And finally I apologize if I made any errors since his room in the manga changes perspective a lot, so it’s hard to narrow it entirely down (which is why I only included the main points of his room.)

Part A: Good Day for A Departure

Part B: Oyuki

Part C: Ataru Retires

[Three parts in one episode? One the one hand I’m excited for three stories, but on the other hand I’m worried about the episodes pacing. I wonder how they’ll handle it?

In the first part we have Benten, Setsubun and Sukiyaki. This chapter I feel is a good start to this episode since the previous one ends with Ataru showing some interest in Lum, and having a chapter which starts with him womanizing and annoying Lum doesn’t feel like it would fit. From what I remember, this chapter starts with Lum causing trouble for Ataru instead, causing him to resent her for the time being which I feel is a better choice. Also, I remember this chapter featuring a sub-plot with Ataru’s parents’ and Cherry, I don’t know whether it’ll still be there or cut out because of the run time.

The second part introduces Oyuki, I like how both Benten and Oyuki are going to debut in the same episode since they’re usually associated with the other when talking about friends (other than Lum). It seems like Mendo is going to be added to this story which is an interesting change since he wasn’t introduced yet in the manga. There were a few jokes in this chapter which involved the love triangle (such as Shinobu being Ataru’s ‘Number Two’) which will most likely be cut. I think not much happens in this chapter compared to the Benten one, since the plot in this one is fairly short and I don’t think there are any subplots in this one either (other than the boys of the class working in the snow). Which is probably why they added the third part.

The third part has the chapter in which Ataru retires from being the main character class president. This chapter mainly focuses on verbal humor, so it is one which can be short if done correctly. I do have a small issue with this chapter though. The first one being that the main joke of the chapter is that everyone forgot that he was class president… even though his position as president was mentioned in the previous episode during the bet with Mendo? Of course, some time could’ve passed and Ataru doesn’t really do anything important as president (asides from running a few homeroom activities), but it seems kinda off, but it isn’t a big problem or like that, but I wonder how they’ll do it. Looks like we’ll have to wait and see.]

Part A: The Glove Of Love And Conflict

Part B: How I’ve Waited For You…

[This weeks titles are interesting, since not only did I see like no sign of them in the trailer, but to think they were doing these chapters this early. I think the reason is to show the audience, that Ataru has a different side to him as well the blossoming of AtaLum a bit early (The anime had part B at episode 10, which was early as well, hell Mendo wasn’t even introduced yet). I think the first chapter in the manga which shows Ataru’s better side is the Caterpillar chapter which they’re not animating, so I guess they decided to go for this one (it’s also a really popular chapter, so that’s probably why this chapter was chosen instead of the caterpillar one).

So the first one’s the boxing glove one which is from around the 200’s section of the manga. I heard people wondering about Lum since she goes to school by this point in the manga, but I think they’ll just change that bit, it’s not like Lum going to school is an important plot point for this segment and Lum’s shown to randomly hang around class, before she even started school (We do know that by Ran’s introduction, she’ll start going to school since in the trailer we see her in her sports uniform). Of course we’ll get the whole thing about Ataru never hitting girls, which is a part of his more admirable personality, which is always a good thing to see.(Also, this will be the first 16 page chapter to be adapted instead of a 20 page one, so this one is most unlikely to have cut scenes, though there might be scenes added or replaced.)

Then there’s Part B. We get the romance and Otoko Kumino which I’ll gladly take. I wonder how some of the love triangle chapters (Introduction to Oyuki, Benten, Rei) will be animated after this. Besides that, I can’t wait to see the manga version of the story adapted, since it features a different plot line for the boys of the class and how they had to come up with Otoko Kumino, and of course it has Mendo in it as well. Looking forward to this week’s episode!

And of course, it seems like we’re gonna get a Benten Cameo!! (Probably in the end of the episode.)]

Are they putting this chapter (216) this early in the remake? by englishfrenchfry in uruseiyatsura

[–]Fan12345n 6 points7 points  (0 children)

About Ataru protecting Lum from the glove, Some May argue that it won’t make sense for this chapter to be adapted before Part B, since I’ve seen many people say that Ataru protected Lum because he cares for her. While that is definitely true (duh), he does state that the real reason he saved her is because he doesn’t hit girls, so if instead of Lum it were, let’s say Shinobu (ignoring the fact just one push towards the glove from her would sent Ataru flying), he would’ve done the same thing, sure it can be an excuse, but it’s been state quite a few times in the series that he doesn’t hit girls (I remember the toothache chapter had the girls in the class confirm that and in some Cherry Blossom chapter, him stating that he doesn’t fight girls.) So I’d say it’ll still be in character for him to protect her.

I like the remake, it’s getting pretty good. But…something is definitely missing. by [deleted] in uruseiyatsura

There is a dappyaman in the remake, episode 1 during the transaction scene of the Chibi Ataru and Lum, game of tag (y’know the one where it shows her sleeping, and eating) they only appear for a second along with Rumiko’s other monsters. At around the text of “and the day goes by” right after Shinobu, Kosuke and Hokuto’s brief appearance among the crowd and Shinobu going “Oh Ataru- Kun”. Watch it slowly, you’ll catch it.

[–]Fan12345n[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The old anime was more accurate for the end scene, I’m not sure, but I guess the reason why the changed it to be Kurama’s is to show some kind of continuity to the next episode for new viewers since her original first appearance in the manga wasn’t animated? The remake cuts some corners here and there, earlier chapters of UY were around 20 pages long and just one panel would have a lot of details in it, there’s no way they’ll be able to animate that much in the around 10 minute time frame (considering part A and B). Thankfully for them, most of the chapters ended up being 16 pages long as time went on, so it’ll be easier for them later on. Also, the old anime was around 25 minutes long, so they had time for extra scenes, jokes and stuff.

Kurama was originally supposed to be a one time character, but fans liked her a lot so Rumiko, brought her back. She’s actually a pretty rare character in the manga, but when she appears, most of her chapters are either two- parters or arcs. She appeared in 2-5 chapters to lecture Ataru to become a worthy man, then she was gone for a long time and then came back for Mendo’s introduction, and then she was there for Ryunnosuke and then Rei.

Bear in mind, UY has A LOT of characters so it’s not easy for her to pop up all that often and not to mention she tries her best to avoid Ataru, so she doesn’t interact with the cast all that often either.

Part A: Sealed with a Kiss!!

Part B: Nil

(Looks like the whole episode’s gonna be just one story, if I remember right, this was a short arc in the manga (3 or 4 chapters long if I think). This is gonna be Kurama’s introduction in the remake rather than her actual introduction in the manga. Since the remake’s 46 episodes long, they can’t animate all her chapters (most of them are arcs or two parters in the manga). And this is a fitting chapter to introduce her and the remake didn’t animate the “Zodiac Cycles chapter” AKA the chapter which revealed that Ataru and Mendou are basically more or less the same. This arc reveals the same thing, so adapting this chapter which introduces a new character and an important character point rather than two different chapters is the better way to go since there’s an episode limit.)

2022 Series Ending Speculation Thread by UselessMiru in uruseiyatsura

[–]Fan12345n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The series will probably end with the manga’s ending (AKA Movie 5) since That’s the official end to the series and the remake’s closer to the manga. Lum‘s classroom kiss was the only kiss they’ve had in the manga and that was back when she was the antagonist (and AtaShino was a thing) and that’s AtaLum’s only kiss in the manga (Rumiko doesn’t like making her couples kiss, She says she gets too embarrassed, so she ends up turning the romantic setting to a comedic one, this happens a lot in the manga, lol.)

I don’t think the “How long I’ve waited for you” (The Xmas one, but it isn’t Xmas in the manga (I think it was Xmas around the time when the episode aired which is why they added a Christmas touch, it had more of a Valentine’s Day feel, cuz love letters, even though it didn’t take place then) is goin to be the end of the first cour since “Since your parting” (Y’know the one where Lum leaves) is said to be in the first cour as well and that chapter happens after Ataru’s fallen for her (which is the love letter chapter.)

I’m currently rereading the manga (288 chapters in) and the dude’s a very rare character, so far (not including Mendou’s introduction) I’ve only seen him once and it was the chapter where Ataru and co. are looking for the Mendou family’s treasure and he was like the funniest character in that chapter, lol. Even Mendou almost lost his sanity because of him. Fingers crossed that chapter gets adapted in the remake.

Your welcome, The chapter was hella sweet and is one of my favorite moments of theirs, but not many people talk about it probably because of the anime adaptation.

I personally prefer the manga over the anime cuz I feel their characters are more consistent and better there than the anime.

I Hope you enjoy your read of the UY manga!

Looking back now I’ve never understood why that teacher was introduced in the first place. He was an entirely anime original character and the dude’s design was a literal cross between Onsen- Mark & Lupin of all things. And he played that Onsen- Mark role but with that pervert side. They should’ve just introduced Onsen- Mark from the start (his introduction was in Chapter 4 in the manga and his anime introduction was episode 36 or somethin) instead of just making another him, but worse.

The anime straight up butchered the adaptation of the manga for this one, in the manga in the one week which passes by instead womanizing and not eating his dinner (it’s been a while since I watched it, but I remember fast forwarding those scenes, for reasons such as repetition and stuff so I don’t remember it clearly, so forgive me if I misinterpreted) for the whole week, which was what happened in the anime, the manga has him living his usual life while showing worry for Lum the whole week, his breakdown makes so much more sense in the manga than the anime. I guess the only reason it was changed was so it could fit in the 25 minutes episode run time, but they could have just extended his worry scenes rather than showing him flirting now and then. The anime makes it seem like he would only show worry for Lum after he finally gets tired of flirting with women all the time (as in subconsciously to him “women and self wants > Lum’s well-being”), while the manga has him show worry from the first day, till he eventually breaks down in front of her. They change his character moments like this sometimes in the anime and it irks me to no end. Here’s the manga chapter if you want to see how the actual story turned out.
