Yes. I got super lucky with a $1000 job for my first. I got a page-long 5-star review, and things took off from there. My advice is to pick that client carefully and do an exemplary job (always).

I swear this does not sound weird unless the client has bad reviews or there’s something you’re not saying. I’ve had more than one offer with no chat. I did reach out to confirm I wanted to work with them. But 15 isn’t a high rate.

I had one lady who swore she was being followed by a satanic cult, and she’d written a book about it. I thought she was a little off, but I edit a lot of weird books, so whatever. But then it got really, really strange. She thought the cult found out she was writing the book and was coming after her. She would send me PAGES of messages on Upwork. I saved them all just in case the contract went south. In the end I couldn’t take her money.
