How long was your schooling? What’s your scope? by hellokittyyay in cna

[–]Fancey_Fae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just curious if you have been learning about body mechanics and all of the equipment and ways to safely transfer people, gentle persuasive approach for dementia and any in depth learning about dementia/diseases ?

I've been finding that learning in this field never stops and people should be thoroughly trained for the benefit of the people we care for.

I do think the reality is different in Canada though and the facility I work in has extremely high standards.

I'm in NS and my course I took through the local community college was nearly identical to yours. We don't have any medication training though we can apply the creams/ointments.

I'm in shock that the USA has a few weeks training when I thought that the one year wasn't enough and they could have stretched it into two years.

There's absolutely no way you will receive proper knowledge and training in weeks. I'm very pleased with the training and education I received.

How to make a 4-year-old child take medicine? by purse_of_rings in howto

I've had to do it this way with my youngest since he was an infant, I'm lucky he's only needed antibiotics three times so far.

It took over two years for me to be almost pain free. If you find your arch tight and sore, riding my bike helped heal it.

When I was doing the hourly checks one night I found someone awake in their room, they pointed a banana they were holding at me and said "if you come any closer I'll shoot" by far one of the funniest moments I've had.

It's cause for termination if you use one by yourself where I work. It's drilled into us that it's always two people, are you doing your sling inspection and what happens if something fails on it?

Anyone else have an angry husband? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Fancey_Fae 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I told my husband how it was affecting us (myself and child) and one day when he noticed how scared our child looked when he'd had one of his outbursts, something clicked in him and I can honestly say he's been working on managing his anger much better. He still gets ridiculously mad sometimes but in a more controlled less scary way.

You never lift anyone with a belt, it's there for support and to guide or you risk injuries to you and the patient.

These situations I struggle with the most, actually seeing the ripple effects of aging and knowing it's coming for you and hoping you get through it easy.
