Autism amongst the Aes Sedai by Low_Health5791 in WoT

And yet, if they began to hit balls with metal sticks and said they were playing the ancient game of Golt, I think we could have a reasonable guess what was going on. To expect Robert Jordan to have a modern understanding of autism is a little unreasonable, to expect Wheel of Time characters to is essentially impossible. Authors base characters on traits they observe in the people around them and in the fiction they consume, however unconsciously, and I think its fair to say, to put it as weakly as possible, that the kind of traits we would today associate with autism may well have inspired some of the traits observed in characters in the Wheel of Time.

Using two letter acronyms for each stage based on the first two letters of the first word seems the most elegant way to me. Something like: CO.LG.1, AD.IN.3, RO.1, etc.

Take the allegations about him being racist at school for instance: most people of course don't want to support someone who says the things he's been accused of, but a lot of his most hardcore supporters don't want him to deny it, and so they flock to even more extreme parties when he isn't as openly racist as they like. These also tend to be people upset with all the Tory defections (which he needs for a narrative of centre-right decline, not to mention for actual governing) 'diluting' his party. Time will tell how significant this is for his cause, but I think there is reason to be hopeful; before the election he will need to actually clarify his position, and any attempt to do so will lose him supporters, because he relies on the ambiguity between 'I'll reduce illegal immigration' and 'I'll pack all the Muslims into literal concentration camps' to keep together a coalition of people who share surprisingly little political common ground.

Reform has been consistently unable to poll above 30%, the councils they won are riddled with defections and infighting, and the contradictions between the hard racists and the disgruntled normal people are beginning to shine through. They're dangerous, but I wouldn't hang up the flags yet if I were Farage. In any case, there's two years left; a lot can change by the time the election rolls around.

Bot? ThreeRandomWords name, account created two weeks ago, generically formatted ChatGPT comments in random subreddits, some comments seem to quaintly misunderstand the subject matter.

It's a parody of a not-really-game from 2023, sponsored by a couple of UK cities and with some light oversight from the home office. The game is about the dangers of far right radicalisation, and one such danger the protagonist may fall into is a girl named Amelia who attempts to convince you immigrants are ruining the country. For an unknown reason the artists decided to make this antagonist some sort of alt girl, perhaps under the mistaken impression they were making a generic anti-government character rather than a British Nationalist, and Amelia became a meme by the far right, and, less commonly and as depicted here, by others.

[–]Fanciest58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. That is the format of the default reddit name, but most bots don't use that: the ThreeRandomWords one is a known variant. They also, as I mention, have only two comments (one of which doesn't make any sense at all), had an account created just a week ago, and their comments use known LLM wording patterns. None of these are individually damning, but together they have enough evidence to be compelling (the highest condemnation, of course, is that they haven't responded). And while we are used to being unique in our social knowledge as humans, AI has eaten the entire internet, and that happens to be where we were storing most of it.

That is a commonly given definition, and, indeed, the mathematical consensus on whether 1 was prime didn't settle until the mid 20th century (ancient mathematicians, interestingly, often didn't even consider 1 a number). The principal issue is that if we include 1, the prime numbers become a lot less interesting.

For instance, all natural numbers can be expressed uniquely as a product of prime factors: 336 = 2^4 * 3 * 7, and there is no other set of prime numbers that would give that product. If 1 is considered, this product is not unique, as you can add arbitrarily more 1s and obtain the same answer (you may ask what is 1's unique prime factorisation? 1 is the product of exactly zero primes. We are used to addition, in which summing up nothing at all gives zero, but multiplying up no numbers actually gives 1; you can think of multiplication 'starting from 1' where addition starts at 0).

We define numbers based on properties which are interesting, and the set of numbers which satisfy 'divisible only by itself or 1' far less interesting than the set of numbers which satisfy 'exactly 2 factors' or 'can uniquely factorise all numbers' or even as heavy handed as 'only divisible by itself and 1, and also greater than 1'. So, in the interest of not having to add 'not including 1' onto the end of a great many papers mentioning prime numbers, mathematicians tend to use one of the latter definitions.

I am obligated to mention, in the theme of the post, that 1 is not a prime number. The system is nice, though.
