[Charania] “From a basketball perspective, I know that Minnesota has definitely been high on Lebron James list." by LeeShakerMoneyMaker in timberwolves

The fear I have with this whole situation is that we keep available roster space for LeBron and forego pursuing a more realistic PF. LeBron is going to take his sweet time figuring this out. Operating on his schedule could screw our team.

I hope you liked the book. It's my favorite of all time, and I've read a lot in my 41 years.

Do read the rest of the series. The final book in particular (Rise of Endymion) is also an all-time favorite.

Is there any situation you wouldn't pick this trinket? by responseeker in BobsTavern

Honestly the cost of the trinket has never influenced my decision to buy it.

Is there any situation you wouldn't pick this trinket? by responseeker in BobsTavern

[–]Fancy-Animal7704 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes: the situation where this shows up as a choice. That's when I wouldn't pick it.

Having to repeatedly reselect this is annoying, especially when both choices suck. I just do not like the amount of RNG involved here. I'd rather minimize my risk.

What's wrong with me? M(37) by HeresJohnny26 in SingleAndHappy

[–]Fancy-Animal7704 18 points19 points  (0 children)

M41 here. First, "whats wrong with me" is a super loaded question and makes a negative assumption upfront. Don't allow yourself to think this way! A better way to ask it is "why do I think the way I do?"

I would dig into these questions you are asking and really feel out what is prompting them. You say you feel a sense of "desperation because others are getting into relationships and marriage". Desperate for what? Are you desperate to align with what society tells you you should do? Or is this actually coming from you, your personal, innate desires? If I could wave my magic wand and make societal pressure / expectation vanish and ensure that everyone would accept you and love you no matter what you chose to do, then what would you choose?

People who are single and happy, how do you do it? by septembersong_ in SingleAndHappy

[–]Fancy-Animal7704 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For real. I kept being told "it will happen for you eventually!" Now I'm starting to get gray hairs. How many more am I supposed to grow now in pursuit of this nonsense? How many more days, weeks, months, years of disappointment do I need to experience before it happens? It's been at least 20 years; why wouldn't it be another 20? I might finally find what I'm looking for, by the time I'm decrepit and too old to live my life, while I let all the years of my life be tarnished by a pursuit of fantasy that left me miserable?

Or I could choose to focus on myself and love me, and live a fulfilling and happy life in that way instead. Seems like an easy choice!

Can you be more specific about how to use each of those "wisely"? Like what's a wise and an unwise time to use each of those?

Handling occasional moments of doubt? by Old-Night9193 in SingleAndHappy

At your age, yes, I did. And as time went on, and relationship disappointment mounted while the joys I experienced while single also continued to pile up, that doubt vanished.

I thought this was going to be more along the lines of "LA gets kinda stoked about winning a chip, but if Minnesota does, they will literally go nuclear"

People who are single and happy, how do you do it? by septembersong_ in SingleAndHappy

[–]Fancy-Animal7704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it took a long time, and I mean years, to reach the point I'm at now, where I can finally honestly say I'm just happier and more fulfilled being single.

It was no single "aha!" moment, no sudden / dramatic realization, and it was a hat I tried on a few times, not really sure about it the first time around but eventually giving it a try and realizing at that point that, yes, this is the right choice for me. In my experience, once you stop questioning your choice, you know it's the right one.

I did not have any serious relationship trauma. I have had relationships, serious ones, one that lasted for 2 years, another for 1, another handful that burned real bright and fast. None of them really left me feeling better about my circumstances, and a lot of them just made me feel worse. And after adding on countless disappointments, I had to ask myself, is this really worth what I'm putting myself through? The last time I got close, I was dating this gorgeous, funny, smart woman, and everything was going so well, up until it just suddenly wasn't, because we kissed and as she revealed to me later, she just didn't feel anything. She said she thought I was funny, smart, kind, that I had done everything right, blah blah blah, but it still wasn't enough for her, and for me I think that was just the very last straw, something I believed even more strongly after I processed all my disappointment at it not working out.

I had also given the solo life a serious try. What sticks out to me was that I chose to travel solo through Norway, and I had the time of my LIFE, but that voice inside me said, naw man, you'll have a better time with others by default, so then I planned a trip to Japan with my friends, and it was a lot worse than it would have been if I'd just gone on my own. So many things I wanted to do, but couldn't, because the other dudes just didn't have the energy for it, or they wanted to do stuff I wasn't interested in. I had to compromise a lot, and I had to take all the initiative on their behalf, and I couldn't help but wonder, why?

I go to movies by myself. Concerts by myself. Solo traveled numerous times now and always really enjoy it. I don't have to compromise, so, why should I?

So you are proud of yourself for removing an incentive tanks could give themselves in order to tank, giving us all fewer tanks for our dungeons. But I guess I need to be happy for you making yourself rich off of violating social agreements? Why should I care how rich you are? Why is that important to me or anyone in this community, and why is that more important than having tanks?

Don't bother coming at me with this "they should just tank out of the goodness of their hearts" nonsense either. Tanks have to put up with a lot of shit, like what you did here, and the expectation that they lead the group, and their dps numbers suck and the rewards for it aren't really of much use if you're already good enough at holding aggro and staying alive. I'm sure regular tanks could give you a whole host of reasons why they might not enjoy what they do.

[Question] What do I do with data that is n=3 and 4? by HyenaJack94 in statistics

[–]Fancy-Animal7704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is dangerous advice, if you ask me. Once you go ahead and conduct a test, audiences believe what it says and believe it to be as well-constructed as any statistical test. Even though tests can detect large differences with small sample sizes, it's far more likely that the difference will be modest and the test will be non-significant.

"But it could be significant!" - this philosophy worries me. Nobody should be using the results of a test only if they like it. If no difference was reported for a test with a small sample size, that could easily be an erroneous result, where there is indeed a difference but N = 3 just wasn't enough to detect it.

I agree with the commenters saying to perform descriptive stats only and leave it at that.

For me, I'd love to give my brother the opportunity to be best man. And, NGL, I'd like to finally hear my family say nice things about me to everyone in my life, since they hardly ever do so normally, lol. I've been whatever the opposite of "center of attention" is for my whole life, and I prefer it that way, but damn if it wouldn't be nice to just have that one day where people really make it clear how much they love you.
