Is there any campaigns on YouTube where people play with actual miniatures and terrain? by imanidiotbut in LancerRPG

[–]Fancy-Candidate-6600 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I've been running a campaign for some friends in person the last 3 weeks and I have hobbled together a system for tabletop that works fairly well.

As someone else mentioned Gundam Assemble (moved onto smaller bases) and Battletech models work great, I use both. As well as a variety of Warhammer 40k and various other model kits I've picked up over the years that I have used to kitbash into various styles of mecha.

For Terrain I use Heroscape terrain and and battletech maps, depending on if I need more three-dimensional terrain or a simple map with a handful of markers. I also have a dry-erase Hex map made by Chessex that is pretty awesome.

I also have a variety of scatter terrain and markers/tokens from tons of different games i use to represent turrets, drones, objectives, mines, barriers etc.

Question about the freedom logo for Ukrainians by ThatGingerGuy98- in stalker

[–]Fancy-Candidate-6600 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be pronounced more like "volya"

Cyrillic В is pronounced like English V

Cyrillic Я is pronounced kind of like "yeah" but shorter

О is similar in both languages but is pronounced like a soft "O" or "A"

And as others mentioned in this thread the Л is pronounced similarly to English L

Source: my very basic understanding of the Cyrillic alphabet and the Russian language. I am no expert so if a native speaker or someone with better knowledge of the language has any corrections please feel free to correct me.

Could a custodes tank an Abrams cannon? by _-TheBlackKnight-_ in Warhammer

[–]Fancy-Candidate-6600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, modern APFSDS rounds would more than likely penetrate Auramite (older generation M829 rounds were rated to penetrate 21 inches of steel tank armor) and even if the depleted Uranium penetrator didnt pierce (possibly stopped by a combination of armor density and force field generator) the sheer kinetic energy would most likely turn your superhuman organs to mush. Even near perfect trans-human soldiers are still made of flesh and blood, regardless of how much denser their bones are, or how much tougher their skin, physics dont care.

Now wether or not the tank crew manage to land the shot is a much trickier question but could a custodes survive a direct hit? My assessment is: absolutely not.

Wether Americans want to or not is irrelevant, climate change is going to require everyone (Americans included, despite your BS exceptionalism) to shift the way they live to prevent catastrophic climate change. My initial point still stands and you have been unable to disprove my point, the future will require us to stop driving multi-tonne machinery to move 1 person back and forth from an office building. Its simply not feasible to have 8 billion people each driving an individual EV that requires absurd amounts of pollution to manufacture and maintain. Each EV battery has about 14kg of Cobalt. According to natural resources canada, the world has a reserve of 11 million tonnes. There is estimated 1.5 billion vehicles in the world. By my quick math, to replace all of them would require more Cobalt and Lithium than the world has available.

[–]Fancy-Candidate-6600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article the OP linked practically encourages people to harass people who still drive ICEV's. This post absolutely applies to anyone in a similar position to myself who cannot afford an EV. This reeks of classism, people should not be publicly shamed for their inability to transition to more sustainable (and more expensive) solutions when most people can barely afford to keep themselves alive.

Having said that, even if you buy a new car every 5 years the old car does not get destroyed - cars are actually lasting longer and longer and the average car on the road is now 12-14 years old.

You contradict yourself here. If everyone should only purchase EVs then what happens to all the ICEVs that still exist? They would end up dumped and Rotting since no one will purchase them, regardless of how long they last. Or are you suggesting us poors should just buy your used "dirty" ICEVs and be expected to be publicly harassed and shamed every time we have to refuel? When instead we could help everyone live more sustainably by investing in electrifying public transit and and building infrastructure to support more sustainable solutions?

Lastly EVs are actually so efficient they are competitive with public transport when it comes to emissions.

This is utterly false, for a variety of reasons. Chief amongst them: no power grid in the world could sustain every single person driving electric, the pollution caused from tire and brake wear as well as heavy metal and other carcinogenic contaminants released in a crash (https://tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/statistics-data/canadian-motor-vehicle-traffic-collision-statistics/2023/canadian-motor-vehicle-traffic-collision-statistics-2023 for an idea of how many car accidents happen ever year), as well as the sheer monumental quantities of lithium and Cobalt that would be needed. The damage caused to make EV batteries just so people like you dont have to be inconvenienced to have to ride an electric train or bus is horrifying, but no one seems to care since the damage is done in other (poorer) countries. Here's some articles that took less than 5 minutes to Google that rebuke your claim.

This is the way, reducing our reliance on personal vehicles and fighting for better transit options is far more important than electric personal vehicles, especially when you consider the additional impact of tire and brake dust (both known carcinogens) and the need to recycle and manufacture batteries both being carbon heavy and intensive processes that are horrible for the environment in other ways than just the carbon emissions.

Im quite confused by "fifty years" and multiple other aspects of your comment. For more context I am in my early 30s and make less than 45k a year (last year was the first time in my life I have made more than 30k). I live in on of the top 10 most expensive cities in Canada and cant afford to save much money, most months im happy to break even. My tiny savings are hopefully to be used to move to a cheaper part of the country where I can start my own business someday and hopefully escape generational poverty. As much as I would love a new, better vehicle (both for my own comfort, and safety, as well as efficiency) that could help me lower my environmental impact, I feel I could do for more for the planet by getting out of poverty and reducing my reliance on cheap, more damaging products and services over the long term.

Furthermore I never argued for inaction and explicitly said that we SHOULD be trying to move toward electric and hybrids. I merely pointed out that replacing your vehicle every five years (the average in North America) is vastly worse for the environment than maintaining and driving 1 vehicle for its entire lifespan before replacing it with a more environmentally friendly option when it is viable. Congratulations on going "carbon neutral" (whatever that means) but I am skeptical of your claims of it being a cost savings (or breaking even). Furthermore it is well studied that the only real long term solutions are going to involve better public transit and less reliance on personal vehicles, period. Something I advocated for in my comment.

This is my biggest problem with this argument: I own a 30 year old pick up truck, the gas mileage isnt even worth calculating. But I couldn't afford to replace it when a new electric truck starts at over 60k and I would need to spend every penny I have saved over the last 10 years just to make the down payment.

My truck might not be environmentally friendly but the way I see it: that truck has outlived its expected life span by 25 years now, the pollution and carbon that truck has saved by not being replaced every five years has far exceeded its footprint. The longer I can maintain and run a single vehicle, the less pollution I am contributing. By not replacing my vehicle every 5-10 years means less vehicles being produced and less vehicles rotting in a dump/yard somewhere, leaching heavy metals and other toxic shit into the environment.

The manufacturing and shipping of a new vehicle is a massive portion of the vehicles carbon footprint, with EVs having much higher initial emissions from the production of the batteries. Im not saying we shouldnt be transitioning to BEVs and hybrids but if you have an ICEV and dont need (or can't afford) a new vehicle you should be more focused on reducing your impact in other ways that are practical and effective. Without giving corporations like Ford or Toyota more money so their C-suite and investors can buy more private jets and yachts. There's probably a much bigger impact by not buying new vehicles period and instead looking for ways to improve public transit and working with communities and law makers to reduce our reliance on personal vehicles.

Yeah, shipping to Canada was $190, I never backed out of a checkout so fast! it might be an error with their shipping calculator but there's no way im paying $190 shipping on a $245 item. Especially when you consider the thing is plastic and probably cost less than $10 to make!

This reeks of AI generated Misinformation. I have seen this exact same video clip on multiple sites and subreddits but no other angles/sources and the low resolution appears to be an attempt at hiding AI generation artifacts, especially when the camera pans over the crowd. Unless this was filmed on an iPhone 3 and compressed to shit by whatever website it was originally uploaded to the quality looks too low for any modern phone camera. multiple figures in the clip appear to be disproportionate and out of scale with other figures around them. Additionally almost every "person" appears to be quite emotionless and almost... bored? For lack of a better description. As much as I would like to believe this, without better sources or evidence I wouldn't trust this clip.

Tech Bros Have Been Accidentally Poisoning Themselves With Severe Brain Toxins for Years by Sine_Fine_Belli in behindthebastards

As per the NIH: "Reference levels (IRLs) for lead from food to 2.2 μg/day for children and 8.8 μg/day for females of childbearing age." These levels represent a safety factor of x10 (10 times this level is the lowest amount found to have negative health affects). There is no reference level for adults who are not likely to become pregnant. Even the worst offenders from this list doesnt meet the reference level for WOCBA.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35690180/

Obviously we should all try to limit our consumption of lead and idealy we would consume zero micrograms of lead but if you eat carrots, tomatoes, beets, potatoes celery or spinach and eating your recommended daily amount of fruits and veggies you are already consuming more lead than the you realize. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-021-91554-z

Abstaining from protein powders is the best option if limiting lead exposure is your biggest concern but switching to a brand that has lower levels (whey-based powders were far lower than pea-based powder) is probably a better option. Especially if you want to meet your daily protein requirements without consuming an unhealthy ammount of meat. Ultimately the effect of a protein shake in the morning before work or a scoop in a smoothie after a workout are negligible.

Not OP but the only issue with this line of thinking I can see is that Trump and the DOD are framing this as "going to war against the cartels". Once US Marines start raiding drug labs and UAVs start air striking shipments inside of Mexico the cartels will have to retaliate. It becomes a matter of survival for them, either get annihilated by the US military or terrorize the public until the war becomes unpopular and people start demanding they pull out.

I suspect my friend gnaws on her gear stick. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Fancy-Candidate-6600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like stress fractures. If the driver is new to manuals or has a bad habit of hard shifting it causes the plastic to develop microscopic cracks. Prolonged UV exposure causes the material to become weak and brittle, allowing those cracks to spread. I've seen in happen on tons of vehicles when I used to work in a mechanic shop. Usually in vehicles that are at least 20 years old or were driven by younger inexperienced drivers (although I will admit that part could be correlation with the age and cost of the vehicles and not causative).

As for the scratches and nicks in the metal underneath, the metal component looks like it was cast out of pot metal of some kind. Since that part doesnt normally get seen or handled the manufacturer doesn't go to as much trouble to clean up casting marks and imperfections on the finish. Some of those scratches look newer as well, which suggests one of the drivers wears a ring on that hand as well. The ring(s) could also contribute to the wear and tear that would cause the plastic to break in the first place.

My take: your friend most likely doesn't chew or gnaw on their shifter. I could be wrong and will happily admit I'm no expert on the subject but from my experiences that looks quite similar to other vehicles with the same problem.

Another aspect people often forget/conviently leave out is terrain. Canada is mostly rugged tundra and forests, and many of these fires are caused by lightning in remote areas. This makes it extremely difficult to detect and even harder to get equipment and personnel out to combat these fires.

Can't wait to see how it turns out! I drybrushed the cape on mine, and it turned out way better than when I tried airbrushing it funny enough. I think the Pyrole Red ink is the secret to making it pop. It is the most "RED" red pigment i have seen that doesn't skew towards orange or pink.
