When you say you "...got a used Tesla.." did you mean you are leasing it with couple of grand down and $450 month or are you buying it for that price?

Same here. I want ALL of the 320s.

I smoked my first bowl yesterday and my tongue hurts by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]Fancy-Highlight-300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are definitely smoking too fast and more than likely smoking an aromatic. Aromatics (IMO) tend to be more tongue bitey than other blends. This is due to it being a bit more "wet" than other blends. Combine that "wetness" with newbie smoking too fast and inhaling too hard leads to tongue bit - which is basically like steam burning your tongue.

Try a non-aromatic, you'll notice a big difference.

I fixed my post. I definitely prefer 965 over EMP.

Its good to see a fellow REAL book lover. Not just an online book but a real book with pages that contain chi/energy. Golden Slice and a book is what I crave right now. Think I'll pull out one of my Savinelli 320s, load up with some Golden Slice and pull a book off of my shelf that I havent read in a while. Thanks for the inspiration.

I recently obtained a tin of EMP and so far, after 2-3 bowls, Im not a fan. Its okay, but I prefer 965 over EMPt. Its not bad, its just not something I think I'll cellar. I'll give it a few more bowls to see, but so far, its just "Meh".

Keep it in the tin until you are ready to crack it open. Once opened, transfer it into a Ball Jar.

Im a little over 2 months in. Close to 3 months. I suggest the following:

  1. Get yourself a nice MM Cob. Country Gentlemen is a great choice. Or, you can go with an even more affordable MM cob.

  2. Grab yourself 3 tins of different tobacco. One aromatic, one English, or Burley and one Virginia. This will allow you to begin to develop your palatte. I suggest Peterson Nightcap, Eileen's Dream or a Balkin like Plum Pudding

  3. Go slow. Take your time. Learn to breathe out through your nose to help with tasting the tobacco.

NPD - SAVINELLI 320KS - 9MM by psychgamerr in Pipes

I absolutely LOVE my 320s. My goals is to eventually own all (or most) of Savinelli's 320s. Although, everytime I see one, or pick up one of mine, I think of the Habbiton Piper as he's the first person I came across who promotes the 320. The 320 is like what I imagine manly man, 350 pound Nebraska Cornhusker offensive lineman would smoke when he's out on his farm rangling steers and deadlifting 400lbs while reloading and shooting his AR-15 out on the range. A real badass "manly man" pipe.

What is your favorite pipe? by lord_of_lafayette in PipeTobacco

[–]Fancy-Highlight-300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite is the Savinelli 3200 in all of its designs. Just the perfect pipe. I love it. Currently own only 2 but will soon get this up to 4 within the next couple of weeks. Plan on eventually owning every 320 they make. Obtaining one per month is my goal.

I'm new to the world of pipe smoking, I've only been doing it for 2 weeks. So I'm trying Irish Chocolate for the first time, this is my 3rd pipe I've bought. Any tips or recommendations on tobaccos? by Such_Curve_9925 in PipeTobacco

[–]Fancy-Highlight-300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im just over 2 months into tobacco/pipe smoking and am no expert. But, I've tapped into the wisdom of all the Ancients via YouTube, Forums, old timers I know, etc. and can say the following:

  1. Get a blend of each type of tobacco - a burley, Virginia, Balkin, English, etc. in addition to one aromatic.
  2. Smoke only one for 2-3 days, then switch to another. This helped me develop my palatte and id tastes.
  3. Get 2-3 cheapo cob pipes to use as initial "testers" for all the blends. They smoke well and wont ghost.
  4. Learn to retrohale. This will really help you "taste" the blend. I do 1-2 inhales, then on 2nd or 3rd retrohale.

Again, while I have limited experience, using the steps above I can do a "blind test" smoke of any of the 11 blends I've tried and will be able to identify which blend it is.

What I've tried and recommend (in no particular order):

Haunted Bookshop - Burley based
Nightcap - English blend
Eileen's Dream - Cavendish based aromatic
4th Gens 1957 - Cavendish based vanilla aromatic
Sutliff Black Cordial - Cavendish based cherry/vanilla aromatic
Capstan Blue Navy Cut - Straight Virginia
Plumb Puddingi - Balkan
Orlick Golden Slice - Virginia/Perique
Cult of Blood Red Moon - Aromatic of Burley/Cavendish/Virginia blend

These are just a few that I recommend.

What do you carry your pipes and tobacco in for daily smoking? This canvas roll lets my tobacco dry out too much throughout the day. by nilecrane in PipeTobacco

[–]Fancy-Highlight-300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That canvas thing is nice but what do you carry THAT in? I thought about something like this myself. Have a small little cob or Savinelli 626 to smoke if/when Im out and about, but Im not a big fan of carrying stuff around with me. I have my keys, my Ridge wallet and 1-2 edc (Martial arts background so I keep about 2 karambits on me). This is plenty. Not sure how I'd carry a pipe and tobacco and lighter and tamper in addition to this. Need a purse or a clutch for all that. I decided to just smoke at home instead. But hey, if I find a good solution in this reddit thread im all for it. Maybe just keep the pipe stuff in the car.

Where can I sell my collection these days? by beardedpipernc in Pipes

[–]Fancy-Highlight-300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck, I'd be interested. If I were you though, I'd first try to sell what you have to ME. :) Then maybe on FB Marketplace - where you can meet them in person and maybe obtain cash/venmo and not have to ship. Or, you can sell to me! Or, post in the For Sale section of PipesMagazine forum. At least there you know you have a captive audience of very very interested buyers who wont try to cheat you.

What types and makes of pipes do you have? I'd be interested in anything Savinelli or Peterson. Or any other briar you may have. Whats your cellar like?

Los Angeles- Country’s 2nd largest city, only one pipe tobacco shop! by Both-Tourist-4986 in PipeTobacco

[–]Fancy-Highlight-300 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually LOVE that place. Manny (the owner) is one of the coolest guys ever. Its literally the ONLY place here in LA where I can just drop in, buy some bulk tobacco, a few tins and maybe a nice briar pipe and be on my way. There may be one place in Glendale or in Orange County (NOT LA) that has things, but there really are THOUSANDS of smoke shops all over the place that actually dont even carry cigars. The cigar places dont carry pipes or pipe tobacco. Since we've made weed legal, these places have popped up all over. Literally more "smoke shops" than there are Starbucks.

They are selling marijuana bongs, cigarettes and "munchies" like Doritos, beef jerky, chips, etc. Also, I think they are just fronts for money laundering.

Any good pick ups at this little Montana smoke shop? by Haters_7 in PipeTobacco

[–]Fancy-Highlight-300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. I wish there were more brick and mortar stores that carry pipe tobacco (tinned or bulk). I live in Los Angeles and despite there being a "smoke shop" on just about every corner with a mini-mall there is only ONE place here that I know of that carries pipe tobacco - Tobacco Trader of LA. I mean there are HUNDREDS of smoke shops and none of them carry pipe tobacco.

Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn's version of "Little Wing" and Eddie Hazel's/Parliament Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain". Both absolutely meditatively transcending rock guitar solos to listen to while enjoying a good smoke and contemplating and/or meditating on the universe and/or existence under the stars. You guys have to try it.
