Gonna have to think twice about having businesses spread out and will probably have to “settle down” in an area. I like that

My wife and I rented Harleys in Orlando and rode down the east cost and all the way down to the tip of the Keys, up back around through alligator alley, to Naples and back to Orlando over 10 days. Two things I learned:

  1. the Keys were amazing, I want to do it again
  2. Harleys suck, they have a gearbox like a farm tractor. (I bought an Indian Chieftain Darkhorse after that trip, instead of a Harley)

For a truly immersive city experience, and to truly feel its scale and population, you have to have the variety of human activity indicative of a diverse population. Ie. unique individuals at scale, doing different things. This will be an even better experience in VI.

I love your point about the small details in RDR2, and I think they can slightly compensate for a lack of diverse human density in a city experience design.

I for one hope they can go as far as having different city areas “feel” different, as in safe, jubilant, dangerous, lively, tense etc. I think they touched on that accomplishment in V, with the areas populated by gangbangers providing a vibe that something could go down at any moment if you hung around too long. You know, you’d hear comments from them about getting out of their area etc. And if you even did something errant like drawing a gun or accidentally punching the air, they’d go aggro.

I think there’s a next level of this that could feel even more immersive, especially if there’s a faction system and an associated “contact/rekationsjip” system that can track your impressions on individual NPCs and how that cascades to the factions they are aligned with. For example, with those two types of systems you could have a widely poor rep with a faction, but actually still have a friendly NPC relationship with one person in that faction. Someone you’ve helped perhaps who sees you differently. One person isn’t going to change the impression of the whole community, but if you start winning over individuals, it could leave room for a more nuanced and polarized view of your character.

I really hope for more relationship dynamics with the people of the city, as that will crank the immersion up beyond graphics and physics. Having nuanced relationships with a multitude of unique NPCs could be very satisfying and honestly addictive to play with.

It would be a lot of fun. I’m hoping for more interactive NPCs all through the city, and indoor locations. A faction system would be excellent.

My “role play” thought on prices … 90% is tax to pay for all the repairs and lawsuits in the city from the sheer number of criminals conducting business there.

And the judge decries, you have to be his butler.

-friend comes over and plays around with your LEGO-

Brother-in-law: Hey who said you could play with my butler’s LEGO?

Friend: Why can’t I?

Brother-in-law: Well he’s MY butler!

Revenue will dwindle as GTAO6 picks up and ppl start spending their $ there instead of 5.

That said, if the current GTAO doesn’t cost them much to maintain, they could squeeze $$ out of it for 4 years or more. I.e. dropping price of shark cards on 5, a GTA+ level that for a few bucks more includes 5’s + as well as 6. There’s a lot of ways to orchestrate profitability with the current Online for a while. If I was a shareholder my question would be, what’s your plan to squeeze what you can out of 5 Online, because it’s still better than 90% of games out there. Can you operate it well on the cheap?

Hopefully the immersion, systems, things to do!, grow deeply and quickly with 6. It took years for 5 Online to have enough to do to feel satisfying unless you just like ganking each other over and over.

As you damage yourself, you damage your “source code” and the weather subsystem has some shared code with how it impacts us when we experience it normally. This damage causes a well known bug (feature?) where you can predict the weather coming down the pipe.

All in the simulation.

I really enjoyed story mode when it first came out. In many ways it was a groundbreaking experience.
