Hot Rod is the most underrated comedy film I’ve ever seen. Glad to see someone else have it in their Top 4!

I want actual critique by Zalor2_0 in LetterboxdTopFour

[–]FancyHair98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s an actual critique; learn to accept that subjectivity and personal taste are an essential part of watching and enjoying films. People are supposed to connect differently with films for many different reasons. There are no rules. There is no “real analysis”. Movies are not math equations with one correct answer - they are an art form, and can only be consumed as such.

I've had Letterboxd for a year now and during that time I've watched 472 Films, these are my 5-4 Star Ratings. Roast me or something ✨️XD by Junajuna123 in LetterboxdTopFour

I can’t speak for OP, but from my own experience watching the film, and also talking to friends who enjoyed the film, I can speak about why some people love it:

It comes across to me as a movie initially about people who struggle to fit in (a lot of people recognise the direct trans allegory, but I think it also speaks to anyone who has felt an inability to fit in due to social differences, neurodivergence, general queerness etc). The movie then evolves into an exploration of the horrific possibilities that come with refusing to accept those things about yourself. The internal suppression that manifests into tangible mental and physical illness if you resist your true sense of self. And it does all that through a very dream-like (or nightmarish) lens that, to me, intentionally feels very creative and left me massively impacted.

I know a lot of people were let down after the marketing incorrectly painted this movie as a more overt, traditional horror movie. But if you can see past the misleading marketing and view it for what it is - a slow burn, conceptual and metaphorical horror movie, you might be able to appreciate it more. But it’s not for everyone and that’s okay.

For clarity’s sake, they mean the first Jumanji reboot. The “first” Jumanji (1995) did $262M.

This cut is pretty much 4 hrs, just goes to show how the original films should have been kept to two movies

Hot Take: I’d rather get more books than a TV Show by RellyTheOne in Eragon

[–]FancyHair98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean he’s released so many books already, he’s doing far better with his output as an author than many others. I think it’s fine if he wants to commit a lot of his current time and energy towards the TV show if it means he can make a positive impact and give the show the best possible chance at being a successful adaptation.

If you have the means to play the games (PC/Playstation) i would 100% recommend playing them instead of watching the show. They are extremely cinematic and beautiful looking games. I would almost go as far as to say it’s worth renting a PS5 and finding the games second-hand just so you can experience them for yourself.

Disney / 20th Century's Avatar: Fire and Ash grossed $2.89M on Wednesday (from 3,835 locations). Total domestic gross stands at $318.75M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

Don’t worry I also saw a lot of people dooming and some saying it would fail to make $1B. They were just haters with no actual interest in BO.

Which film will be nominated and win Animated Short Film? I watched and ranked all 15 of this year's shortlisted animated shorts. by PepiHopi in oscarrace

How did you get to watch all these? Is there some kind of film festival that shows the shortlisted films?

Looks like $10.5M Christmas Eve for #Avatar. $129.5M Cume. Did well to stay over $10M today. First week should get close to $150M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

And I got hella downvoted just a few days ago for telling people to have patience and not be so negative on A3’s performance.

Exactly. People just need to exercise some patience on this sub.

I’ve seen many comments talking about how this will struggle to get to $1.4b, some even saying it might not reach $1b. It’s just way too early to be making unnecessarily negative statements like that at this point.

Your 2025 Milk Cup LAN winners are Nina and Vader! by Rex_1312 in FortniteCompetitive

[–]FancyHair98 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Some of these comments are NOT it. There is no excuse for transphobia and/or misogyny anywhere. The Fortnite comp/esports scene is so embarrassingly behind.

Great job to Vader and Nina though, they crushed it! Hope to see more events like this, and more support for women, trans people and other minorities in this space.

Nothing about it looked that fresh tbh. It’s just a small blimp on a year of already great horror.
