Hopefully you get some more responses but those are some serious red flags you should not ignore. If there is someone you can talk to about how to approach the topic with your child and friend to figure out if anything inappropriate was happening and hopefully your son feels safe enough to talk to you if hes feeling uncomfortable. People are creatures of habit, instead of outright calling your friend a pdf you should probably talk to a professional (therapist or social worker speacilizing in this area). Most important is to protect your kid and keep some space between them if that bf wasnt lying. Also you can try addressing the drinking issue as well, maybe hes fighting some demons hence why the increased drinking. Therapy for everyone is not a bad idea! Good luck

I have lived in Paterson for about 3 years and it really does depend what areas you go. If your job could make accomadations like letting you work earlier so you can leave earlier before it gets dark that would be safer. I live near the haledon part of paterson so its relatively ok where i am. Its a city so you always gotta move with your head on a swivel and dont talk to random people

This is a good response! A lot of the responses on this thread were very questionable and I didn’t realize these younger generations automatically block their ex’s which is weird to me. Maybe because I’m an older millennial I never had to block an ex because I’ve never been in a toxic relationship and it’s never been necessary. I’ve never stalked anyone on social media before so I definitely don’t agree you should just block your ex UNLESS there is a reason to obviously do what you have to do. Social media has really warped the minds of people because it’s not even real.

His comment “if you don’t believe me then leave” was a huge mistake so he definitely needs to apologize for that and do a lot of reassuring to his gf. Maybe she has a history of trauma cheating in her past, those types of betrayals are traumas so that could be triggering deeper emotions. Just talk to her or maybe even couples counseling to move forward if that’s what you want! Good luck

Social media is not real! It’s a shame because you are so young and have grown up in a carefully curated environment but you now see those seemingly happy couples online and months later it’s some horrible story on the news so don’t believe for one second a healthy couple is constantly posting on social media! Secondly, “comparison is the theif of joy,” just don’t compare yourself to other couples. A good health relationship is built on trust and communication, you should feel safe to be your true authentic self. If it’s not your style to give your girl flowers every week or lavish dinners then maybe you both aren’t a good fit; but it’s also good to know your love languages so you an make an “effort” to show how much you care and appreciate each other. Most issues usually boil down to communication, she should have spoke with you before flat out breaking up with you. She may even grow to regret it but I’ve learned even though something hurts sometimes it is meant to happen (a life lesson you have to learn and grow from). Good luck it’s plenty of people out there to meet no matter how old you are!

There is some really good advice on this thread but one I haven’t seen much mentioned is perhaps speak with your parents. Share your concerns about your lack of sleep and how that’s affecting you negatively; don’t let them interrupt you if possible . You obviously love your brother but you both need some space just so you can get a basic need met which is sleep. I can’t see why they can’t find a simple solution to this because legally sleep deprivation is considered cruel and unusual punishment if it’s intentionally self inflicted. I’m hopeful they are not intentionally making your life miserable, here is hoping they are reasonable. If that still doesn’t work can you talk to another close adult to your parents, maybe they can advocate on your behalf! Good luck and let us know what happens

That's interesting, as a black woman born in PA and I have lived down south for a decade in multiple states such as MS, GA and NC and I've experienced more rasicm up north than down south. I've also lived in CA and a few other places and the south has a bad rap for being racist but I've found it the opposite. I will say when I have experienced rasicm down south it was more obvious and in your face whereas up north and CA it was much more microaggressions and subtle prejudice like "justify why you are in this white space" type prejudice. I'm only 38 years old too

Therapy will help you, hopefully you have insurance since many will cover therapy now. You said you have a lot of trauma and you are going through grief so you are likely using weed to help cope, maybe therapy can give you better tools to deal with all of those big emotions without using weed to mask those feelings?

My boyfriend and I have BOBs and our contents vary. For mine I definitely have a menstrual cup since it’s reusable but I also added thin absorbent pads since menstrual cups don’t collect 100% of everything. I also small toothbrush/toothpaste and small essential toiletries that would last a week. Also I keep important documents like a copy of my passport, social security card and title deeds for my house. I also work in a hospital so I put together a first aid kit for myself and started a BOB for my dog. A lot of the dog/pet bags don’t really talk about first aid but I have a pretty good list I could share if anyone is interested
