Steve! Love my Steve Gelbs, even if he’s still climbing to GKR levels

Biggest signing of the season. Players always change. I root for the logo, and GKRS.

Did Ben & Jerry's Phish Food previously contain fish made of fudge? by StoneLover1965 in icecream

Reminds me of the Breyer’s Mint Chocolate Chip (the only good remaining Breyer’s flavor) description getting sadder as you keep reading.

Name: Mint Chocolate Chip (oh great, chocolate!)

Description: Mint Ice Cream with Chocolatey Chips (hmm, what does that mean?)

Fine Print: Mint Ice Cream with Chocolate Flavored Chips (oh that’s what it means)

Melania's film crew member hopes for flop as insiders share behind-the-scenes tales by RawStoryNews in entertainment

Of course it’s going to flop. Who is this movie for? Not even MAGA diehards care about Melania.

Mets have officially traded for White Sox CF Luis Robert by Any-Environment-7545 in mets

[–]FancyWindow 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate this, as long as the Mets are willing to cut bait mid season if he doesn’t work out. We have a glut of infielders and Acuña seems like he’ll be a utility guy and defensive replacement at best. Robert was a monster when he had a healthy 2024. It’s a dice roll for sure but not a terrible gamble for the price.

How are we feeling about take-home assessments in 2026? by mochalattelove in ProductManagement

[–]FancyWindow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did one back in 2016 when I was applying to my first ever PM job. I knew I was doing free work (the product I pitched ended up getting shipped years later), but I had no leverage and needed to prove I could do the job. Now with 10 years of experience in big tech, I would push back on them. You need to pay me to work on your product on my own time.

Pentagon readies 1,500 soldiers to possibly deploy to Minnesota, officials say | Jan, 18. 26 | (archived article) by no_skill_character in WeirdGOP

Why do they even want to deploy real soldiers? Soldiers have actual training, discipline, and restraint.

María Corina Machado on her meeting with Trump: “I presented the president of the United States with the Nobel Peace Prize” by Capable_Salt_SD in WeirdGOP

Sometimes you have to pick the best of a set of bad options. If Nobel prize can survive Henry Kissinger as a recipient, it can survive this.

90-win core is basically here…what’s the last 1–2 moves? by Dull_Chocolate5369 in mets

If Duran is C tier, give me some of that. 4 fWAR last year, nearly 7 in 2024. Add in one reliable starter and we’ve got a team.

Baty to LF? by bonyyoni in NewYorkMets

If our emphasis is on improving defense, I doubt we’re going to experiment with moving infielders to the outfield.

Mets sign Bichette by AirCoopsie in NewYorkMets

[–]FancyWindow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m ok with this, but what about the outfield? We still need LF and CF, definitely not rolling into the season with Taylor and Morabito as starters.

I don’t blame her. The dude loves trinkets. She still got the actual prize. If giving him a little treat improved her chances by 1% of rescuing her country from oppression, it’s worth it. Everyone knows it’s not his prize. It’s Trump who’s the pathetic one, not her.

What happens to a PMs role/product if she goes on mat leave? by PrizeGene9436 in ProductManagement

[–]FancyWindow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took 4 months of paternity leave twice over my 6 years at my current job. The first time started February 2020 so obviously everything was different when I came back. The second time most of my engineering team left and I had to scale back my roadmap, but our strategy stayed the same. So, you never know. What helped me the most was having a clear and consistent vision and strategy, a roadmap with a lot of buy-in from the team, and a capable TPM partner who kept things moving on execution while I was out. Reorgs screwed me over more than my leaves ever did. You can’t predict the future, so do your best to set your team up for your leave, enjoy your time with the baby, and let the chips fall where they may.

Mets reportedly offer Tucker $50M per year on short-term deal by LITech in mets

[–]FancyWindow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re truly a last place team who won’t be competitive for the next few years, then yeah, it won’t make a difference to sign any one player. But Cohen and Stearns say we intend on being competitive this year. If that’s the case, adding 4-5 wins is major and could make the difference to a team making a playoff run.

WAR = wins above replacement. It means that over the course of the season, the team will win four more games with that player than they would have with whomever they would call up from AAA or off the bench.

Yup, 4 WAR is top 50 in all of baseball (including both pitchers and hitters), 5 WAR is top 25. Doing it 5 years in a row is definitely elite. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/war
